  1. What the MTA is going to do?? They can't retire the r46's cause the r211's are not in service. They can't go back to QBL due to CBTC. The r46's and r68's cannot stay on the A, B, C, D due to CBTC on 8th Avenue (which includes 59th Street) and logically 6th Avenue. Why is it so hard for NQW rail fans to understand. Plus, the A, D, E and F trains have much higher ridership than NQW trains. NQW rail fans need to take a chill pill and stop acting like spoiled brats who think that they are entitled to new trains.
  2. Same situation with CPW during the weekends. Weekend head ways on the C (which is used by tourists visiting the museums) are terrible. I just hope the MTA uses the first option order of r211's to either beef weekend service on the C or to run the B during the weekends between 145th Street and Brighton Beach.
  3. Let's also add to the list long wait times during off peak hours and trains being held in station for no valid reason. Wait times of over 5 minutes during rush hours and over 10 minutes during off peak hours are NOT acceptable.
  4. In terms of ridership, it does make more sense for the C to get all 10 car r179's plus r160's from Jamaica. However, the MTA confirmed that the A and C will get the base order of r211's. Let's not forget that 8th Avenue CBTC will include 59th Street/Columbus Circle, which means that the B and D will need NTTs. Concourse will most likely get a piece of the first option order of r211's. The open gang way trains have been testing well, so I wouldn't be surprised if the 2nd option will be 100% r211T's. If that is the case, then the E and F trains can keep all the open gangway trains, while the A, B, C, D trains can keep the r211A's, although it's possible for the B to get the r160's instead of r211A's.
  5. So it's not Ok for AC riders to complain, but it's ok for NQW to complain about the old stuff. I guess not everyone is happy about the 2 most neglected subway lines will be getting some TLC
  6. Garbage trains (r32's-r42's) run on CBTC territory. The problem is the service delays and longer wait times that it would cause when SMEEs run on CBTC territory.
  7. How?? Continuing to dump old equipment to the A and C trains is not going to benefit the system. Like it or not, the A and C trains will get the base order plus some the first option order of r211's. The NW trains may get some r160's , but they are not going to be fully NTTs until the r68's are gone. The people from Astoria need to stop whining and relax. They are not entitled to having new trains and they are not better than the people who live in areas served by the AC.
  8. Do you want a repeat of what happened with the r179's in 2019 and 2020?? Let's be patient. It makes sense for the r211's to enter service and stay in service than rush the r211's to passenger service only to massively be pulled out of service due to issues. Also look at what happened to the new subway cars in Washington DC? Do you want that to happen in NYC too?
  9. That's because the NQW trains aren't getting r211's. The main focus is the A/C trains.
  10. Only TA workers and railfans. The average rider and the media don't know anything about subway car fleets.
  11. I don't know why the B train is being treated as a useless line. Yes, right now, it's a part time line, just like the W. If the W got r160's, the B can get r211's. The B will need NTTs regardless if it's r211's or r160's due to CBTC. IMO the r211's should represent the opportunity for service on the B to be revamped. The B needs to run between Bedford Park and Brighton Beach from 5am to 11pm , Monday to Friday. Once CBTC is done, the B needs to also run during the weekends between 145th and Brighton Beach to provide more weekend local service on CPW and provide weekend express service on Brighton.
  12. Not necessarily. Concourse doesn't have room to accommodate both lines. Yes, a few B trains are stored in Concourse, while a few D trains are stored in Coney Island. But Concourse can only fully accommodate the D. Once the B gets the r211s (or r160's), The Q can use them during the weekends, since it's the only line besides the R that does get rerouted via 6th Avenue. As for Astoria riders who are still acting like spoiled brats for not having the r160's, well they will have to wait for option order 2 to get some of the r160s back.
  13. Option 1 will make the C 100% full length. Option 1 will most likely be split between 207, Concourse and the B train. Option 2 should go to Jamaica. There is a huge possibility that the Option 2 will consist of r211Ts. I just hope that Option 1 is delivered and in service before 8th Avenue CBTC is complete. A, B, C, D will need to be 100% NTTs for 8th Avenue CBTC.
  14. The 8 car r179's will most likely stay on the C until the first option order of r211's. The base order will displace all the r46s of the A/C.
  15. Possibly more if the labor issues with Kawasaki are solved. I hope that the r211's are placed on the A before the C.
  16. If the r211Ts continues to make that type of progress then, most likely, the 2nd option order would consist of r211Ts. If that is the case, then Jamaica can keep the 2nd option order, while the C, and D trains (possibly the B) can keep the 1st option order, which won't include open gangway trains.
  17. Sorry NQW riders. There's no other choice. Plus 6th Avenue will be the next corridor to get CBTC after 8th Avenue. It's common sense.
  18. At this point it just makes much more sense for the MTA to do a third option order of r211's than doing a separate order to replace the r68's. Why?? Because that separate order would be included in 2025-2030 capital program, which IMO is late. They are already late with the r262's. The third option order of r211's would take a long time, but it would be delivered faster than a separate car order for the r68's Also, r68's cannot run on CBTC lines. That is why they need to be retired by 2030.
  19. That's because Florida treats their working class like garbage. The salaries are too low and very few jobs offer benefits. Yes, things in Florida may be cheaper than NY, but for the amount of money that Floridians are making, it's too expensive for them. Going back to NY, let's remember that the r38's, r40's and r44's were retired during the recession of 2008-2011, which was a national recession, which impacted everything including the MTA. That recession caused the MTA to eliminate the W, V trains and a bunch of bus lines and it prevented the MTA from purchasing more r160's.
  20. Reducing subway service or eliminating subway lines will not solve the issues with the r46's. You guys are not thinking about the straphangers. Do straphangers really care if a subway yard has a high spare factor?? Absolutely not!! That's not even a priority for them. For any straphanger, their priority is to wait 5 minutes or less for a train during rush hours and 10 minutes or less during non rush hours. Straphangers are already upset because fares will go up this year. Any type of service reduction will add insult to injury.
  21. You actually think that straphangers will be happy if the W trains is eliminated?? What excuse the MTA is going to tell them?? Straphangers don't care about spare factors. They care about frequent service.
  22. Of course it's unacceptable and that is another example of why the A/C trains are the most neglected subway lines in the system. If I'm not mistaken the C was supposed to get the majority of the 8 car r179's, while ENY was only going to get enough r179's to replace the r42's. It didn't happen and C train riders got screwed again by sharing the r46's with the A. I also agree that most of the r179's should have been 10 car trains. What the MTA doesn't seem to understand is that a massive subway car shortage will cripple the whole system. Why?? Because subway service on the B division will be reduced, which will cause severe overcrowding on the B division as well as the A division and more traffic in the city.
  23. Yes I was a child in the early 90's and the main reason the r30's were retired is because of no air conditioning, which is a safety hazard during the summer. Also, it was very common during the early 90's to see many of the lettered lines to run 4 or 5 car trains during the weekends just like the G, even though the G runs 5 car trains 24/7.
