  1. I just find it very pathetic that there are people in social media that are excited and practically celebrating because the r211's are removed from service. I even saw someone on Facebook spreading the false rumor that the r32's are returning to service. I just hope that these knuckleheads realize that the r211's will return to service (it's a matter of when) and that they will become the most reliable subway fleets just like the r179's.
  2. Yes, and it is possible that the NQW may get some r160's back once option 2 is delivered. BTW the NYPD caught the teen that broke the windows on CI r46's. I just hope that the parents are held accountable as well. Where were they when their teen offspring was smashing windows on the trains??
  3. Pitkins best performing r46's will go to CI. The worst performing r46's will be removed from service. We would have to wait for the base order to be in service before official retirement of the r46's begin. Let's not confuse "removed from service" with "retired". A "retired" subway car means that the subway car is ready to go to the scrap yard. Keep in mind that there are still r32's that haven't been scrapped yet.
  4. I agree only time will tell in regards to the real impact of congestion pricing in subway and bus ridership.
  5. I just hope that the MTA doesn't make the dumb mistake of putting both open gangway trains on lines that have low ridership. Otherwise, it would be a waste of money.
  6. The issue is that there are not enough 10 car trains to make both the C and G 100% full length with 10 car trains and we can not continue to count on the r46's, especially with all the vandalism that has been happening, The r46's are in really bad shape and parts for the r46's are becoming scarce. A few r46's have been removed from service. The C can't stay as 8 car trains or mixed length. The G can't stay as 5 car trains. The G getting 8 car trains can be a temporary solution until they are enough 10 car trains to make the G full length with 10 car trains. This is why it is imperative that the MTA moves forward with option 2, which will allow both the C and G to become 100% full length with 10 car trains
  7. I think they are talking about the 10 car r179's. IMO they should go to the C once the C becomes 100% full length. The Rockaway shuttle will get some r211's, regardless if the A does become 100% r211's or not.
  8. I just hope that both open gangway trains go on lines that have huge ridership. If they go to the A, great, but if they go to the E or F, even better. IMO, it would be a huge waste of money if the MTA decides to put both open gangway trains on the C or Rockaway shuttle, since both lines don't have the ridership that the E and F have.
  9. I rode the r211's yesterday, and you guys are right in terms of the announcement. It sounded really muffled and difficult to understand. Other than that, it was a smooth and fast ride.
  10. Yes, Pitkin's r46's will either be sent to CI or simply be removed from service.
  11. Exactly, this is why the r211's need to go on lines that have high ridership and are getting CBTC.
  12. Let's not forget that we have a federal government, especially in Congress, who have a hard time understanding that driving is NOT for everyone and they refuse to invest in more public transportation. Is there a US city that has better public transportation than the MTA?? As for the r211's, the MTA better purchase option order 2 if they really want to avoid big headaches in the long term.
  13. That's ok. I support Queens link 100%. The MTA has the equipment plus the right of way to allow the M train to be extended to Rockaway Park. The MTA can also probably modify the option 2 order of r211's to include more 8 car trains and perhaps include more 8 car trains in the r268 order.
  14. Those irresponsible parents need to be held accountable as well. Where were those parents when their teens are breaking subway windows or subway surfing?? I get it, people need to work. However, kids and teens need to be under adult supervision until they graduate from high school.
  15. Blame it on the knuckleheads who broke the windows on the r46's. Don't be surprised if these idiots did these acts of vandalism to pressure the MTA to put NTTs on the NQW. Notice that AFAIK they only vandalized CI r46's. I just hope that these vandals get caught and serve time in jail. Also, the MTA needs to exercise caution in regards to retiring the r46's. IMO the r46's should temporarily be stored as emergency fleet before being scrapped.
  16. Thanks for the clarification. I just hope that option order 2 is exercised and I just hope that the MTA doesn't screw things up in regards to the number of r262's and r268's that need to be purchased.
  17. Kawasaki will need to speed things up with the r211's or the MTA will have to delay the completion of 8th Avenue CBTC.
  18. True If the B D don't get the r211's, then the B D will get r160's. Regardless of the outcome, the r68's cannot stay on the B D due to CBTC on 8th Avenue and 6th Avenue.
  19. That's awesome!! Let's cross our fingers that these r211's don't get vandalized. Vandalism in the subway is getting worse. The W is suspended and the B, D, F, N, and Q trains are delayed as a result of these vandalic actions. Those who are responsible for vandalizing trains need to be arrested and if those vandals are teens, then their parents should be held accountable as well.
  20. Most likely we are going to have to wait until the winter or spring to have high odds of getting on the r211's right off the bat.
  21. That's going to take more than a decade to happen. Meanwhile, the city is getting more and more crowded. More people (many of them don't drive) are moving to the outer boroughs. Driving is not for everyone. Let's not forget that driving to Manhattan is going to get more expensive. The MTA can't wait until trains are ridiculously crowded (to a point that people have to be literally pushed in and out of the train, like in many Asian countries) to consider building new subway lines or extending existing lines in the outer boroughs. This is why the MTA needs to buy option 2 in addition to option 1 of r211's. That's why the MTA needs to get it right with the r262's and r268's. That is why the MTA needs to consider scrapping the current plan for phase 3 and phase 4 of SAS. Instead, it would make much more sense to rebuild the 3rd Avenue El in the Bronx and connect it with SAS at 125th Street as the T train and just build a tunnel crosstown under 125th Street to extend the Q train to 125th and St. Nicholas than to build more tunnels below 63rd and 2nd Avenue.
  22. No worries. Thank you for sharing this. You're right. I am getting fed up in regards to disrespectful straphangers blocking subway car doors with open strollers, large shopping carts, and bikes. The r211's have flipped seats and less seats. Therefore, the r211's will have room to accommodate strollers, shopping carts and bikes.
