  1. How do you know? Do you have a source?
  2. I think unlimited free transfers within a time frame (2-3 hours) would be the best option, it allows people who take trips with multiple transfers to use one fare and not have to pay double the fare to get to where they need to go. IIRC MUNI allows unlimited free transfers if you tap once between 8:30 PM and 5 AM so that is something the could look into as well so that people taking longer trips at night don’t have to pay another fare because the card transfer window timed out, especially with the long headways at night.
  3. Agreed, one Essex Street becomes ADA accessible you can say goodbye to the B39.
  4. Talking about the skipping patterns on the Port Washington Branch, why is peak service on the line west of Bayside (and to an extent west of Great Neck) so poor? Frequencies are often less than off peak frequencies with trains often being 45 minutes to an hour apart. Do they want those riders to take the QM3 or something? (Even though the wants to eliminate it in the queens bus redesign)
  5. Just saw 3 trains 100 ft behind each other at 5th Ave going towards 34 st. Times where there are both trains in the platform. Closest I ever seen trains together in the subway.
  6. No service change that I know of but I’m on the in Brooklyn Right now going towards queens and the FIND display says that it’s going express on queens blvd. idk why it’s not like it’s late or anything.
  7. Feels like every transit agency is having shortages due to the new COVID strain. My college town's transit agency (TCAT) just cut all service past 8:30 PM (Service normally ends between 1-2 AM every day except for Sunday) and reduced service on a lot of others due to the bus driver shortage. Guessing the is experiencing something similar.
  8. I remember the times when the gates were used for emergency/accessibility only and would sound a alarm when you pushed it. IMO a wider fare gate should be constructed for wheelchair/strollers/luggage/etc... and the emergency gate should get rid of in its entirety. In an emergency, there should be a button (probably in the station master's office) to open all the fare gates to make it easier for people to exit the station. BART is the perfect example of this:
  9. A little bit unrelated but it kinda reminded me of something I observed around the Thanksgiving holiday season. Around half of the trains I rode during that time period, the first car was blocked off to passengers (Doors were closed on the first car while the rest of the train was open). Does anyone know why the did that on some trains?
  10. Don’t forget the holiday train show. Metro North should definitely add service to that station during an event like that since the trains get packed. NWP trips operate half hourly most of the time with one train stopping at all stops in the Bronx while the other just stops at Fordham. The other should definitely make a stop at Botanical Garden imo so service is half-hourly.
  11. Another good example is the St. Albans station I mentioned on here before. One train every 2 hours on weekends while the other Babylon trains fly by that station. (Service on the branch is every 30 minutes).
  12. It might’ve been to replace the buses lost in hurricane ida but since they got the older novas from queens (and I think the Bronx) the probably called it a day and decided to just keep the older novas from the other boroughs at Castleton. Also since Castleton is more prone to flood damage I don’t think the wants to give any new buses to Castleton for a while since they don’t want to loose new buses due to a natural disaster. I’m not 100% sure, I could be wrong but this is my guess.
  13. Exactly, Look at whats happening with the 7000s in DC. The WMATA wanted to replace all of their older subway cars with one new car type but when the 7000s had to be pulled from service due to various issues, they retired so many older cars that there aren't enough cars to obtain normal levels of service, which make most lines operate every 12-20 minutes instead of every 6-12 minutes. That's why it's better to do so in batches so if issues arise and a particular fleet has to be pulled from service, it doesn't have catastrophic effects on service levels.
  14. It might be for the duration of the investigation but it’ll probably be put back into service, most likely with the car (or set) renumbered. (unless the r211s start to get delivered before that, then they will probably be the first cars to retire.)
  15. Also since the T/O is in the first set while the C/O is usually in the second set of the train, you can easily get to a staff member on the train with an open gangway train.
  16. Are the doors between the R44s on the also locked? Haven't been on the in a while and I'm not sure if the same rules apply to 75-footers there compared to the rest of the subway.
  17. Idk how the Q102 bus suggestion was useful saying the the Q102 ends service between 12-1 AM depending on the direction so you can’t really use that.
  18. IIRC the OG and NG hybrods couldn't run on those routes due to the clearance on the 65th Street Transverse right?
  19. I know that people are trying their best to avoid the subway due to the recent events however for people who have no choice but to take the subway do you think people would avoid the lines that run with R46's and r68/68A's due to their safety flaws. I'm talking about people trying to stay away from the and to an extent the lines and using nearby services that don't use those cars if they can avoid it.
  20. Given the overcrowding I wouldn’t be surprised if some bay ridge residents decided to take the Sim1/7/10/11 buses to the first stop in Staten Island and backtrack to bay ridge with the S79. Especially since you can’t get on the x27/37, x28/38 if you’re trying to get on at some of the last stops in Manhattan.
  21. The 2014-2015 xd40s have different seat types at Bus vs NYCT.
  22. Just saw an S52 with two extra flashes on the destination sign, “MSG3” and “MSG4”. Does anyone know what those mean?
