  1. Not a proposal, but rather my own interpretation of what the system would've looked like had the IND Crosstown went with it's original proposal of being a loop. The original proposal came about in 1925, but obviously plans had changed over time. Andrew Lynch (Vanshnookenragen) made a blog and a portion dedicated to this, but there were no track maps of what it would've looked like. To be fair, it wasn't easy trying to make a map of this. It was mentioned that 53 St would've been a 4 track tunnel. Unfortunately, as I was making and revising this, I ended up across on a sentence that mentions when Fulton St was added since it wasn't built yet that Crosstown entering Manhattan on both sides wouldn't have been possible due to having to sacrifice space for the IND Fulton St line. I'd like to think it was possible, but most likely didn't want to deal with the hassle of it. If this were the case, Jay St station would've most likely had a similar layout like Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts station. With Fulton changing everything, there were a couple of sentences in his blog that was odd, "The 53rd St Tunnel was reduced from 4-tracks to 2-tracks, eliminating the ability for the Crosstown Line to directly reach Manhattan. Service on both the South Brooklyn (today, the F/G) and Queens Blvd Lines would be limited so that only the express tracks being able to cross into Manhattan." The reason I found it odd, especially the second sentence was it felt like 53 St wasn't just going to have their own separate tunnels for different branches, but a direct connection from 53 St to QBL Local. In this scenario, the 60 St tunnel probably wouldn't have had a connection to QBL local built through the 11 St cut since in this scenario 53 St already has one. Although, this is just hypothetical and maybe Vanshnook can come in to see whether most of this is true or not. Again, this is not a proposal, merely an interpretation of what the system would've looked like had the IND stuck with their original proposal for Crosstown.
  2. Okay so update, apparently there was an issue with one of the axels and the brakes had to be pulled taking the train out of service. Vandalism wasn't the cause, apparently. It's at 2 Av just idling if I'm not mistaken, but it's almost 6PM so it'll be leaving soon.
  3. Something about a stuck brake or whatever relating to vandalism, DJH is saying something about it with people messing with the brakes and even someone breaking into the cab and screwing with the fuses. Guess we'll see later on if what he said is true with photo and video evidence, those are bound to appear.
  4. There are better chances of some kind of reconstuction or whatever to replace the 3 Av EL before 2201 than even within the century, but those chances are not as much higher than you think with the current state of literally everything preventing such reconstruction to occur like politics, lobbiers, money, NIMBY's, etc. There's a lot of things that needs to be tackled before a 3rd Av EL would ever be considered even for just a study. We have studies like the Utica Av Subway that was supposed to come around, but the recent Needs Assessment report pretty much just confirms that will never happen especially with the given outragous price for the line being $15 Billion. As much as I would love to see revivals of certain lines and even just expansions for the NYC subway, it's just not possible in reality unless something changes which won't happen even within the next few decades most likely.
  5. So I'm seeing more videos and talks about another set not having working AAS, this time it's more consistent with 4115-4119, but it was coupled to 4070-74. It's happening now actually.
  6. You might be forgetting that her life is also on the line as well. This was a lose-lose situation, doesn't matter if she let the dude on or not. I'm just glad it didn't lead to anything worse because I get the feeling bro would've either got a shot off on her or started shooting at the train had she not and who knows what would've happened.
  7. Express to Local Southbound are running with severe delays. Southbound trains are rerouted after Queens Plaza, resuming regular service at DeKalb Av. What Happened? NYPD conducted an investigation after a train's brakes were activated on the express track at Prince St. Additional Updates: Southbound trains are running on the line from Queens Plaza to 5 Av/53 St, then via the line from 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr to W 4 St-Wash Sq, and then via the line to DeKalb Av, where they will resume making regular stops. Southbound trains have resumed making regular stops in Manhattan. Alternatives: Manhattan: For service along 2nd Ave, take nearby trains on Lexington Ave. For service along 7th Ave and Broadway, take trains. Between Manhattan and Brooklyn, consider or trains. Brooklyn: For service in Brooklyn, take a train or a B68 bus. Take a B82 or B82-SBS bus for service to Kings Hwy on the line. Take a B35 bus along Church Av for service. Posted: 12/21/2023 08:35 PM Apparently there was something about a dude on the tracks with a knife.
  8. You know, I always forget about the Franklin Shuttle. I'm kinda surprised I forgot about the R32's on the and , especially since i have taken all 3 at one point, too. IIRC, I'm pretty sure the R68A also appeared on the in normal service more often during the 90's or rather early 90's. Though, I wouldn't know for sure.
  9. Since the first question was answered, I'll answer the second. The MTA had a bunch of cars running around in the early 90's. The R26/28/29 are IRT trains that ran throughout the 90's retiring in 2002. The R30's were operating on specific lines like the and (the Rockaway ), but they were retired around the beginning of the 90's. The R32's were everywhere in the 90's even in the 2000's until the R160's came in shifting a bunch of them elsewhere or retirement. You'd find them on the and . There were 2 different kinds of R33's, mainline (R33) and World's Fair (R33S or R33WF). Mainline is everything but the so all of 7 Av and Lexington Av lines, World's Fair is the , don't ask me about what the differences are. The is just one of those lines that require special cars like the R188's currently running around. The R36's is another mainline train that ran in the 90's, it retired in 2003 on the as more R142/A's were delivered. The R38's was mainly running on the in the 90's and retired in 2009. Like the R33's, there were 2 different variants of the R40, the R40S (slant face) and the R40M (not slanted). Both retired officially in 2009. The R40S were mainly based out of Coney Island yard for the and East New York yard for the (still don't know why there's no circle emoji when there used to be one) and . Later in the late 90's they were running on other lines like the and . The R40M were based out of ENY for the and stayed that way until the early 2000's had them based out of CIY running along the and . From what I remember, the R42's were mainly an ENY train running along the lines, they had appearances along the Queens Blvd line like the , but these were later on. The R44's were pretty much just on the and as well as the until it got discontinued during the early 90's, nothing much else during those times. The R46's were based out of Jamaica yard all throughout the 90's along the . The R62/A's were mainline IRT trains all over for all 7 Av and Lexington Av. They didn't appear on the until the 2000's when the R142/A's were being delivered in the late 90's Last but not least are the R68/A's, really nothing different from today's service, they were and still are based out of both Concourse and CIY. The has always had them since its introduction and Concourse loves them and CIY had them running along the and . I don't think they ran them on the until in the late 2000's. These are all the trains that ran during the early 90's with extra info just for the fun of it, I do hope someone can correct me on all this in case I got something wrong or missed a few things.
  10. Considering the has the oldest signal system in the system and CBTC being implemented to streamline the system, might as well.
  11. The problem with a giant subway project of all different kinds of subway projects lumped in is that investors, politics, and a bunch of other factors play a big role in this type of stuff. Regardless of whether or not such giant project makes a very huge return investment, it's not something in the interest of those that have such a big contribution. Essentially, it's just a giant pipedream all lumped together that would eventually lead back to what we're currently dealing with today, anyway.
  12. Something else happened more later on I think at Jay St so they were gonna reroute trains from Culver anyway probably.
  13. Trains Rerouted trains are severely disrupted in both directions while we address a mechanical problem on a train near Ditmas Av. There is no northbound service from Kings Hwy to Church Av. Most trains are running on the line from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to Broadway-Lafayette St. The last stop on some southbound trains will be 2 Av, where they will turn for northbound service. Some northbound trains are running on the line from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St-Wash Sq. Listen to announcements to hear how your train will operate. Posted: 12/01/2023 04:18 PM
  14. Both, neither is more direct than the other, they both have just as much direct service to whichever track.
  15. This is probably the most tame thing I could be proposing, but I think it's within the realm of possibility that wouldn't require such a significant amount of work. I'm proposing to reactivate the grayed out switches south of Dekalb Av. For those that aren't aware, this switch used to connect directly between the middle tracks bypassing Dekalb Av and the Brighton line. This is mainly for redundancy purposes, I'm not entirely sure how practical this is, but personally this would be rather beneficial for hopefully not much of a cost. This doesn't need to be answered, but if you were to agree, would you change the routing for South Brooklyn lines going through Dekalb and how?

  18. Might have something to do with the amount of flats CIY trains be experiencing. I know there's been R160 put-ins that have become normal lately to cover.
  19. Not like there's anything different between the 2 outside of the different shell type between cars. I wouldn't be surprised if they run an R211A and R211T mix outta nowhere.
  20. R211T 4045-4049 + 4050-4054 Hard and Soft shell mix running around.
  21. Sort of unrelated, though not really either, but from your personal experience was your time on the R211T better than when you conducted the R211A? Only asking this cause you rarely hear much of any unfortunate news about the T's compared to what the A's are dealing with.
  22. As far as I know it was a movie train. Recently they've had R46 movie trains on the IND half of Culver for something (same consist, signed as K or V) That's exactly what happened, it was doing a bunch of moves including wrong-railing.
  23. Not my photo, credit to EON (emperorofnyc) Apparently, this happened the whole route along with doors trying to open on the wrong side at every stop, too.
