  1. I don’t have the qualifications or skill set to operate a train with hundreds of passengers on it 5-6 days a week 40 hours each day. I only have a CDL for trucking, that’s about it.
  2. Yo… I’m gonna say it again. I know what’s going on in the railroad. You don’t need to help me decide what I should do for a living or career. Mind your own business and focus on yourself getting in instead. Let me pick a job I want, a choice that will make me happy. I don’t wanna operate a train.
  3. Yeah… mind your own business. It’s my career, my choice.
  4. I have a lot of customer service and safety management experience on my resume. Even if they think I’m a better fit for driving, I’m not really interested in doing that 40 hours a week. If they ask me to drive trains from and into the yard, I don’t mind. If they ask me to do 1 or 2 stops, I don’t mind it either. But not 24/7.
  5. I want assistant conductor, that was my primary choice. They were suppose to send me an invitation for that, but they never did. I ended up getting an invite for engineer also because I applied for that one as well. Yesterday I went to Hillside facility to see if someone can help me with the assistant conductor invitation and the security guard who saw me was mean, nasty, and uncooperative. It’s been 3 weeks since they’ve said they’d send me an invite.
  6. I got an invite to the locomotive engineer open house exam this month. But I haven’t received an invite for assistant conductor like they promised… what can I do about this??? They haven’t committed to that for me.
  7. I missed out mine in November, told HR and they said they’d send me another open house invite last week, but haven’t received any since… does anyone know what I can do? It feels like it’s getting a little bit unprofessional keeping someone at the pole. I’ve contacted them yesterday and the day before and still didn’t hear back or get a reply.
  8. Is there anything I can do at this point??? I didn’t attend my first open house invitation back in November, but HR called me and said they were going to send me the next invitation 2 days ago and so far I’ve received no emails regarding next invite. I called them again yesterday and today, but nobody is picking up…. help.
  9. Passenger railroad… I assume Amtrak right? Why are you trying to leave Amtrak anyways?
  10. I’m thinking about applying for locomotive engineer trainee, if I get selected, can I go to the open house to take the exam for assistant conductor also? Do engineers and conductors get the same exams during the open house ?
  11. They’re not very good responders. Sometimes they never get back to you when they should.
  12. So basically I was selected for conductor open house on a date, which I wasn’t able to attend. Do I need to reapply for the position again on the website using the same account/email or different account/email if I’m still interested? Or should I email the recruiter who contacted me and ask him/her to resend a new invitation? I’ve recently reapplied on the site to see if they’ll send me another invitation.
  13. How do I reinstate? @Biggie also I’m working full time right now at post office. If I trade it for traffic checker, is it worth the trade in the long run? I don’t wanna make dumb switches that will make me regret later on. Any advice is helpful unless getting promoted to cleaners from traffic checker means I can get pulled from a civil service list…
  14. I was thinking I can go in even in 2 years from now since civil service list doesn’t expire until the 4th year timeframe is up.
  15. If I don’t come in for employment processing, will I be able to come in another day if I call them? I suppose the list remains active for 4 years right?
  16. Hi, So I’ve been called to come in to NYCT for pre employment processing for part time traffic checker position. I’ve also taken the station agent exam this year and passed it as well. My question right now is what are the chances that I can get pulled from the station agent list as a traffic checker? Will it work similarly or same way as people getting pulled off conductor list for transit cleaner?
  17. If 2 ppl get 100 on conductor exam, does it rank by seniority in terms of when you apply or it goes by ssn? Someone knows?
  18. Ok I apologize. So what’s your advice? I didn’t make it in last year. I want to get all the help that I can get from you.
  19. People have the ability to turn your words around or throw things into their mouth that they didn’t say what they meant to say. I never tried to put a candidate down or make them feel depressed. What I’ve been doing all the time is sharing my story/my experience about the hiring process. Nothing was set in stone, and I learned it that way. But I don’t want anyone to urge into my posts and feel less confident about it either. Definitely ignore my posts, prepare, practice for the interviews, go in and answer and make it sound like you got the job already!! Every government job I’ve applied for make you do interviews once you pass an exam, and I surely didn’t get all the government jobs out there when I passed my tests. Sometimes you just gotta pull out the long strings, but not too long you know what I mean? Selection can be random sometimes. They can be hiring 10 people and only interviewing 18. You know what that means? At least 8 candidates will be weeded out. If you know something that I don’t know, you are more than welcomed to explain it to all of us. I sure as hell would love to hear it because I’m personally always seeking to get better also. I do want to make a note that an example of people just jumping straight ahead to try turn my words around and misunderstand me is when I asked if I can reapply for conductor after one year if I fail an interview, and somebody decided to bash on me like I was talking down on everyone instead of directly answering my question. Brivera0529, you were the only one who answered my question and understood what I meant, and I appreciate it thank you. Although I didn’t get the job, I will not let it become an obstacle or discourage me to keep applying for the position out there!!
  20. I went through the process last year. It’s part of their procedures. There’s nothing to lie about that. You pass the test, great. But that isn’t the whole part to it. When they invite you for an interview, they’ll ask a bunch of work questions. You answer them well, great! it still doesn’t guarantee they’ll select you to move on with the process. I know somebody here who passed, but didn’t make it afterwards. You don’t know how many times I’ve been through it from to time to time, but in the end I hoped for the best for myself. I have nothing, but wisdom and best of hope and luck for everyone on here. I hope y’all get the job. I’m just saying, it’s not 100% set for every candidate. If you ask anybody else on here, they’ll tell you the same thing I’m telling you. fyi: please do not send me a hate mail on here if you don’t know what I’m talking about — I’ve gotten so many of them from people to the point where I had to shut them up so they never say a word to me again about the process.
