  1. Heard that the R211s set will start testing on SIR soon along with the production cars, is this true?
  2. I think it's more likely the will be 8 cars. Assuming the MTA still wants to go through with making the full length, there will be a ton of 4 car R179s that need to go somewhere. I'm going to guess they'll send them to ENY in exchange for some 4 car R160s to Jamaica for the . When the 4 car R211s arrive they can be used to expand service.
  3. Will it go back to R68s when the fleet swap happens? Surprised the would move there with all the space problems at Jamaica
  4. So the fleets would look like this: R160s R143/R160/R211 R179 and a few R160s R160
  5. Yeah, given it's been over 20 years since a subway extension was even considered, I'm disappointed that they didn't look at an extension of the via 19th Avenue or at the very least a busway...
  6. Hey, maybe once the 4 car R211s arrive we could end up with 3 types on the and 4 types on the ... maybe they'll even put some on the
  7. R179s on QBL express would be pretty cool. I guess the would be 100% R211 under this rumor? Seems kind of crazy to think how a line that arguably had the most fleet variety 5 years ago went from 3 types of cars to maybe just 1 (R32s/R46s/R179s). I understand the benefits of fleet uniformity from a maintenance perspective, but as a young railfan who remembers the 2009-2012 assignments, I will miss not knowing which fleet will show up. Hell, outside of the 3 types on the , the only lines with 2 or more fleets are the ... (do R143s still periodically run on the ?)
  8. Yeah I meant the 5 car sets. If the 4 car ones went to ENY though, would they just swap them out for R160s to the or just use them to expand service? I thought the MTA wanted to get C trains to 600 ft but weren't able to yet because they wouldn't have enough 5 car sets until the R211s arrive.
  9. I was looking at the PSA phase 2 plans in the 20 year needs assessment and noticed that they dropped the station at 62nd but kept the one at 125th. They still seem supportive of the project, but it's disappointing that they dropped a station considering the walk from the far west side to 8th Av. The 125th stop is centered around 125th at St. Clair Place, but I'm not sure how they can fit it in. I would have thought 145th would be an easier place to put a stop given that it's next to parkland and it's the closest the ROW gets to any station on the for a transfer. Perhaps they could build a stop around 50th or 57th using one of the sidings there?
  10. I wonder if they'll actually look to add new switches to Rogers and de-interline it anytime soon, or if it's something they're just going to forget about or ignore
  11. I think they'll keep whichever married pair is in the best condition just for space reasons. If not maybe they take a 4 car set and scrap the B cars while keeping the A ones. Can an R44 run linked to a R46? The single R44 they preserved is basically a static exhibit with that blind end, so if they can link it to a 46 maybe they can run it. I don't think you can link a 46 to a SMEE, NTT or R68 so they could have issues running it on a fan trip when today they can just link a 32, 38, 40 and 42 together
  12. Makes sense, they're on their last legs. But I'd imagine if the R211s don't have any issues they're not going to want a ton of R46s sitting in yard taking up space, and the lack of asbestos in the cars would make scrapping them easier. I guess in that case we're looking at a late 2024 retirement for the SIR cars and a mid-late 2025 retirement for the NYCT cars unless the first option order gets further delayed.
  13. For IBX I think we could see in-system transfers at 8th Av , New Utrecht (connection to the platforms), East 16th with the , Linden/New Lots, Livonia, Sutter, Atlantic and Wilson with the , and Metropolitan with the . The transfers at Jackson Heights, Flatbush and Avenue I/18th Av will be a bit of a walk. I think they should try to build an in-system transfer to the at 69th just to prevent excessive crowding at 74th. Hot take but I think the 125th extension for SAS should only go as far at St. Nicolas Av. Dealing with the water table, rapid decline, and transfer at Broadway is going to be tough when there's already a connection to CPW at St Nicolas. Considering the tail tracks for phase 2 go as far as between Fifth and Lenox Avs, you could immediately build the Lenox stop right after, then tunnel until just after Adam Clayton Powell Blvd, then build a three track terminal whose bumper blocks end right before Morningside Av. I think the 10th Av stop has somewhat of a chance of being built just because of the new PABT and the fact that it would take crowds away from Times Square, but it would take some cajoling to the get the MTA to do it. Maybe they could do the New Lots extension by only having a stop at Linden Blvd within Livonia yard? Maybe build a center track along the Livonia el between Pennsylvania and New Lots to make up for the lost storage space?
  14. So they're just cannibalizing those married pairs at this point? I figured they would save one for the NYTM rather than a 4 car set.
  15. Had no idea that was going on. I thought they were just patching up cars to keep them running another two years. How many cars got refurbished?
  16. What I'm saying is if the segment to 116th can be completed by say, 2027, but getting to 125th isn't possible until 2030, if you can turn trains around at 116th there's no problem with getting service there a few years earlier. I'd imagine the majority of the time spent on construction is going to be the section curving to 125th and the complex there, since the station for 116th will just use the current tunnel, and cut-and-cover around 106th will take less time than TBMs with phase 1 will.
  17. Is construction still planned to start at the end of this year? It's disappointing it's going to take that long - tunnel construction is only five blocks of cut-and-cover between 105th and 110th (plus the 106th stop), and the curve from 120th to 125th. Maybe they can try to at least get service to 116th.
  18. Is 2029 still the estimated date for finishing Phase 2?
  19. This is exciting! It's cool to see a major order arrive en masse especially after how long it took to get the R179s in. It's like 2007 with the R160s
  20. Do you do interior signs for any trains? If not I'll just take a R160 to 96th exterior sign
  21. I get the MTA would be wary of paying extra to run the all the way to 71st over the weekend, but if you were to simultaneously swap the and in Queens, you could reduce runtimes and the amount of equipment needed, as well as improve reliability. The would remain a weekday only service, with the being the primary QBL local line
  22. I would just run the over the weekend, so the only time the would run on 63rd would be overnight. I get that if you work near say, Lex-63rd, and live near 71st Av, it obviously wouldn't be ideal, but in that case you could take either the or to Queens Plaza and then transfer to the under my plan (or the if you leave Broadway alone).
