  1. I doubt they'll consider tail tracks for the ... the only terminal improvements I could see them doing is reconfiguring Atlantic to 3 or 4 tracks with a center track to terminate trains if needed, and that only works if the OOS platform is still usable. For the they'll just send whatever they can't fit into JC to 179th. But an extension via the LIRR ROW like planned in the Program for Action would be nice.
  2. I heard that 4480-4481 is at Concourse, but it may have been moved. The mismatched 40M/42 pair is at CI I think, but IIRC it was heavily vandalized. In that case I guess they'll just go with four cars for the R46s and maybe two R68s and two R68As linked together. If they were to do that I'd imagine they wouldn't keep any 46s and no more than a single 68 car in the museum because of space reasons.
  3. Isn't there an R40M pair sitting there too? It's kind of sad to see lesser known fleets like the early redbirds and 40Ms just sit in yards rotting... they already saved nearly two trains of R33s/R36s so I doubt they'll do anything to restore those... same goes for the 40M when they already have a preserved 42 pair... Hell, even a fleet like the 44s only got a single car preserved, and the blind end and lack of interoperability means it probably won't run on a trip. I doubt they'll preserve any SIR R44 cars, and for R46s I see them keeping a married pair or two A cars at most... at least with the 62/As and 68/As they could convert them back to single cars and link two together...
  4. Are they going to deliver production sets before the 30 day test? On one hand it would make sense since you would have more cars to train people, but it could also make modifying fixes more difficult
  5. Would probably just confuse riders and no need to add to the run time
  6. It's not difficult to remember like it's some midday/evening after PM rush swap. Weekends and overnight via 63rd, all other times via 53rd. Commuters aren't idiots and will figure it out. Regardless you'll have service to 6th Av one way and QBL the other. They didn't have any issues sending the via the bridge over the weekend back when they were renovating Montague. Will it involve change and adjustments, something the MTA is allergic to? Yes. But you can fix a backup on one of the busiest trunk lines. Just because it makes things slightly more annoying for operations doesn't mean it won't greatly benefit commuters with fewer delays. Just look at the overcrowding at Roosevelt that lead to that person falling onto the tracks the other day. 53rd is much busier than 63rd, and right now the is overcrowded, the is slightly less so, and carries air. If we ran twice as many express trains through 53rd you could relieve some congestion on the and crowding at Roosevelt from people passing up and for the . When the was around it carried air despite the MTA's attempts at sending it 53rd to relieve the , and they're still doing the same thing today.
  7. I now get that you can't mess with Broadway or the yards, and that running the full over the weekend is a nonstarter, but is doing a weekday only swap out of the question as well?
  8. The current setup with 36th is awful... (can't count how many times I've been on a stopped and crawling towards Jamaica after Queensbridge...) Is it really that much of a hassle to even swap the two on weekdays and then just run the via 63rd weekends and overnight? You can run some short turn to 2nd Av to make up for the service loss on 63rd, but won't have to run the full other times... With CBTC I just find it crazy that the MTA is willing to let such a major bottleneck stay in place... hell, they seem somewhat willing to reconfigure service through Rogers a little with new switches in the 20 year assessment, even though that would take much more work, cost more, and force more transfers...
  9. Couldn't you move the to CI and the to Jamaica? You could free up some space at the latter since the is part time and less frequent? Perhaps with the congestion pricing $ the MTA could spend more on the ? This Twitter thread is a good analysis of how the swap could work:
  10. Any chance the MTA goes through with their Rogers junction project in the 20 year assessment, and would it make any sense, or is it just another project they're going to ignore?
  11. I get that it would cost the MTA extra, but it's not out of left field. The current switch and merge setup with the waits at Queens Plaza and 36th suck, and separating the and would help with capacity and spread some of the 53rd St crowds onto the . IIRC the MTA was planning to run a trial of this 3-4 years ago but never went through with it for some reason. The could also use a shorter runtime and fewer merges.
  12. Swapping the and tunnels won't happen or swapping the and won't happen (or both)?
  13. I would run the to 71st over the weekend with the via 63rd overnight, and swap the and in Queens. The would share a fleet with the .
  14. Let's hope the R211S can be delivered quickly. Sounds like they're not even waiting before taking the 44s out of service
  15. I think there might be a few at 207
  16. Are they trying to keep the 46s off the shuttle because of the corrosion from the sea air above the bay?
  17. Forgot Vernon-Jackson was already renovated, disregard that
  18. Court could definitely use Hunters Point seemed pretty clean last time I used it, Vernon-Jackson could use it more tbh
  19. Did they give a timeframe for the 46s as well?
  20. I mean aren't they trying to get rid of them ASAP? If the delivery schedule is supposed to be 20 cars per month and they get 10 before November, then they could get them all on property by the end of January?
  21. Assuming the SIR sets arrive at the same rate as the R211A sets and the R211S passes the 30 day test by around Thanksgiving, I would make a guess that the R44s will be gone around February or so.
  22. Are the production R211S cars going to be delivered directly to Clifton?
  23. I know this is a little off-topic, but is there any chance they could start reselling the rollsign boxes from retired R32s or R42s?
