  1. The failure review board reviewed the details on what happened. Based on the nature of the issue, it was decided that the clock would not be reset upon resumption of testing on the 6th. Hence the train has completed its 30 day test. Notice that the delivery and testing of production cars is already underway.
  2. Contrary to unsubstantiated rumors otherwise, the R179s have passed their 30-day test!
  3. The clocks are driven by the supplement schedules being operated. Since this shortlined J is really internally an M run with M crews from the M work program, the supplement is an M supplement. This is why the trains show up as Ms on the countdown clocks. There may be workarounds for this issue but I’m not sure. The bugs and issues are still being worked out on the countdown clocks.
  4. Car equipment failures account for a very small portion of total delays. The marginal delay impact of having older rolling stock on the line is minimal when compared to signals, track, and insufficient capacity (timers, RTO inefficiencies, etc) delays. The R32s on the may end up displaced elsewhere once the 10-car R179 sets start arriving by the way.
  5. The (C)’s R160s will be going back to ENY, as the is slated to be all full length trains of R46s.
  6. 3066-69+3090-93, which are production cars, are now testing on the J line. Enjoy!
  7. That’s not actually how the 30 day test works. The clock is only reset if the failure review board (made up of representatives from both NYCT and Bombardier) deem that a purported failure is serious enough to warrant resetting the clock. Not all failures result in a clock reset. Furthermore, a second consist of R179s is currently burn testing on the J line as I type this, cars 3066-69+3090-93 - production cars.
  8. The very first passenger run of the R179!
  9. It was actually very quiet! Also, Tech and Transit has the honor of being the first paying passenger aboard the R179. Congrats to him!
  10. It came out early and made an earlier interval. Happy hunting everyone!
  11. So far you’re the closest. More lines have R46s and less have R160s though.
  12. Ok, to settle things here is a nice list of things to photograph, as they will be disappearing over the next few months/years. Wish I could be up front and explain exactly what is currently planned to happen, but I can't, so I'll imply what I can instead. These are not crew room rumors, they're based on facts. Union Tpke can concur on this as well I assume. R32 and R160 trains R32/R42 trains R68/A trains R68/A trains R46 and trains R160 and trains (maybe) And enjoy the RFW's on the *and* lines!
  13. To be fair, the R179 did the same type of testing back in May and it didn't correlate to the imminent start of passenger service. We shall see I guess.
  14. To clarify, *6* car R32 (and R42 for that matter) consists are banned from operating on the G line, per bulletin. There's no reason an 8 or 10 car consist of R32s can't run on the line, as will be seen eventually. Also, get your shots of R32s and R160s on the C now before it starts using R46s.. Similar deal for the R32s on the J.
  15. That wouldn't be far from the truth if things go to plan haha
  16. You're very very close, with the exception of the (B), (C), and (G).
  17. Union Tpke is on to something, and I think he is aware of the same exact plans that I am aware of as well. Once the R179s start arriving en-masse, expect to see some changes in car assignments.
  18. Here is a video of them being moved up. The museum TOMM consist sounds good on ground rail!
  19. There's a lot that I would like to say, but I can't really talk about it at the moment due to the info not being public. However, I will say that I am aware of what the current plans are vis-a-vis car assignments post-R179 delivery, and the issue you are describing is not seen as a significant one. It's definitely one worth consideration, but the marginal disadvantages that it causes are not really that much of a problem given how rarely this sort of thing occurs. That's all I can really say right now. I guess just stay tuned, changes are coming soon!
  20. Sorry, I mis-typed. I meant to write Broadway, not 6av. The original post has been edited to fix the error. Worst case scenario, you'll end up with one or two B's trapped north of Prospect Park that for whatever reason have to be turned at MetroTech. It's not the end of the world. With the W terminating at Whitehall as it is, it doesn't matter WHAT you send up Montague (B, D, etc.); if you want to turn it before 34th st, you have to turn it at MetroTech anyway. Given how rarely such a scenario would occur now that SAS is open, a marginal analysis would show that it would not pose too much of an operational problem to assign R32s/R42s to the B over the long term.
  21. Actually, the issue of having to turn Bs at Lawrence St (Jay-MetroTech) interlocking should bridge access be closed isn't that much of an issue apparently. Now that SAS is open, there is a much less severe need to be able to reroute Bs via Montague to turn in the case of a service suspension, as they can instead be rerouted up Broadway side of the bridge to 96 st. A year and a half from now or so, all of this will be moot, as the relevant fleet swaps will have already occurred or will be in the process of occurring.
  22. Actually, it is entirely possible to change the balance of 4 and 5 car units to include more 5-car units and less 4-car units. Also, expect the first equipment swaps to start in September. Everything is subject to change though. Stay tuned I guess!
  23. Sometimes rail fan speculation logic isn't that far off!
  24. R10 3184 is almost fully prepped for the July 30th Fan trip to Coney Island. I highly suggest getting tickets, available here: http://www.nytransitmuseum.org/program/coneyisland/
  25. This work was planned far before the Amtrak work was planned. This work can only be done in the summer, because summers have lower ridership. If this is delayed by a year, it'll end up delaying a bunch of other projects (CBTC, etc) for another year as well
