  3. There wasn't enough State Funding which caused a 10 Million short fall in the Transit budget. They worked it last I heard to 6 Million in cuts to Fixed Route and 4 million in SCAT cuts. Last I heard they scrapped the cuts, at least to full routes, for now and are making changes to equipment use on routes with low ridership. They have started to phase in use of SCAT buses for low ridership routes instead of Fix Route Buses.
  4. Yeah I heard about that. Not sure if it has started on all routes or just the 7A right now. 5A is supposedly suppose to get them along with the 7D/E.
  5. Not lack of ridership. Buses heading to Riverhead had to make U turn on William Floyd to get to Palmetto Dr. Neighbourhood meets Havenwood which has access to a stop light. To me it sounds like some other issue then lack of ridership since in that area since it's like a loss of like one or two stops. Also correction thats in Mastic BEACH, not Mastic.
  6. Yesterday Suffolk has started using a Para Transit bus on the 7A. Heard Para Transit bus 2009 Coach and Equipment #2948 was being used.
  7. If it was a backdoor deal, then how do you know it happened. IIRC there was no proof that such a deal had happen, it was just what some people thought to explain why the n80/n81 wasn't cut at the time, since is such a deal had happen and was known about then Schmitt probably would have been charged with....corruption. Since that would have probably been corruption. What are you talking about there has been no change to the S66 route last month. What detour are you talking about, there has been nearly no change to the S66 since I moved to the area over 12 years ago.
  8. The problem is you need to prove conspiracy and corruption. Just because he isn't funding NICE the way everyone wants him to, doesn't mean there is a conspiracy or corruption. Why exactly do you think Mangano is capable of sending spies to keep someone's mouth shut?
  9. Would love to know what she thinks he should be charged with.
  10. This topic kinda took over the thread that for the roster and roster moves only. I think you you want to continue this you should make your own thread The S58 never use to be as long as it is. When the route was created it went from East Northport to Middle Island. Back around 2000 Suffolk County, in one of two moves that made access to Riverhead County Center better, extended the S58 to Riverhead to ease the overcrowding that was happening on the S62 on it's runs to Riverhead from Smith Haven Mall. The waste of time is specifically the traffic on NYS 25 (Middle Country Road AKA Jericho Turnpike) from around Smithtown to Coram. As someone who knows that area pretty well. the traffic gets really backed especially during rush hour.
  11. Yeah all the S66's I've ridden on coming from Riverhead has always stopped at the College. Any time I took the S66 to Riverhead it was always the first one (5:35 AM from Patchouge) and that driver never stopped at the College unless there was someone on board that wanted to go there. Which the times I rode it there wasn't. The SCCC- Riverhead campus is also shared with some other University, LIU or something. Though the Selden Campus is alot bigger, it has like three or four buildings while the Riverhead Campus has one or two buildings (Or at least that's accessible to SCCC-Riverhead), and offers I believe a lot more classes then the Riverhead Campus. Yes the S58 accesses the Selden Campus along with the S63, S71, 6A, and 6B. That access though is only when the campus is open. When it's closed for holidays and such the buses drop off in front of the gates.
  12. That's like once mid day and then any run after 4:45. I never said that people didn't use the stop. Just that I never saw anyone so I couldn't gage how many people use the stop. Though I figure it's probably far less the SCCC-Selden since I don't think they offer as many classes at the Riverhead location as they do at Selden. Though I said that, that was the practice for the early S66 which is the 5:35 AM. It really dark up around that area before the sun rises. Not to mention when turning into SCCC-Riverhead the driver would be turning into the rising sun. Also it was only seemed like one particular driver that did it throughout the day, not all drivers and again only when heading to Riverhead not from Riverhead.
  13. I'm talking about the AM not PM. Besides depending on the time of day the 8A ends at SCCC-Riverhead, so riders could take that to the County Center to catch the S66. However I don't know the actual numbers of riders that take a bus to SCCC-Riverhead. It isn't a big campus like SCCC-Selden. My sister use to take the bus to SCCC-Riverhead for classes, but then had to transfer to SCCC-Selden because the classes she needed weren't offered during the day time at that campus and it conflicted with her work schedule and she needed a car anyway. When ever I took the S66 to Riverhead almost nobody ever took it to the College or took it from there.
  14. Probably don't want to go all the way out there if there is nobody going out there and they probably never had anyone get on when they head back. S66 drivers on the early morning runs out to Riverhead normally called out if anyone on the bus needed to go to SCCC-Riverhead otherwise they bypassed it. Probably because they never had a lot of people get off there and with the sun not risen and it was to dark and they didn't want to chance going in there.

  16. The S92's yard is in Greenport (Sunrise Coach Lines), right outside of town. For runs that end in East Hampton the buses are parked at Hampton Jitney. and are used on the first S92 runs out of East Hampton the next day.
  17. I'm surprised the 2009 study didn't suggest doing that. (Probably leaving off the Islip RR) That does sound intresting, though I have to question what about the people who used the other part of the 3C. Granted I don't know the ridership of the route now, I know back 15 or so years ago there were a few people who use to ride it. My family used it a few times to go to the South Shore Mall and once after going to King Kullens after they relocated their CI store, when we lived in CI.
  18. If I remember correctly that 2009 Study that Suffolk had done suggested having the 3C extended to Hauppauge. Actually the 3A and 3B could be turned into one big loop. I mean both it's end points are the same, just when in Bay Shore one ends at the South Shore Mall and the other ends at a Shopping Center or something. So having a bus or two running counter clockwise and one or two going counter clockwise wouldn't be bad. Though that probably wouldn't save money, unless it one bus each way.

  20. Other then those riders needing it to get to College, did those 12 people say or share any other info. Say like how many riders rode the route while they were one, how many people they have seen riding the route when a bus has gone by them, or how many people from the college actually rides the bus. I mean just because (at least) 12 people ride the bus and need it doesn't mean it should be kept. It makes no sence to keep a route that they aren't at least breaking even on. So unless they can prove that data that the route actually breaks even and does better then other routes, there is nothing they can do. Nobody and I mean nobody is going to keep a route just because 12 people need it/ use it. What they should be doing is going to the college and asking them to provide some type of transportation to some spot where these people could have access to better transportation. Or if not see if the college would pay Nassau for the service.
  21. Your problem though relays on them washing the buses. If they can't afford regular maintanice as everyone says, then I would assume they wouldn't have the money to wash the buses. If they would do such a thing they would probably use some type of wrap type thing like what is used for the ad's on Suffolk's buses. I don't think those peel.
  22. Also saves time to resticker then to repaint. Suffolk Transportation Service seemed to use a sticker on the sides of the IC CE's they recieved from Atlantic Express for buying some of their contracts rather then decal their name like they did to the Blue Bird Vision's they recived. Though Suffolk Transportation Service's Large Bus Fleet is made up of Blue Bird's.
  23. I'm not sure when the S62 got the Hauppauge routing. It isn't new, new. It's been around for years. I had meant new as in since a majority of the routes have kept their routing since before the 1980/1981 take over of the bus system, that the S62 had it's Hauppauge added on. It's possible it was added then. BEFORE Suffolk County took over what is now the S62 use to run from Port Jefferson Station to Riverhead and was called C-2 (For Coram Bus Service route 2)
  24. Traffic is diffrent for one. For most of the route the S62 travels on the multi lane NYS 347, which while it gets back up doesn't get as bacd. The S58 travels on NYS 25 which is a one lane (in either directions) for the most part and gets very congested. Also for it's whole history the S62 has gone from Riverhead to Port Jefferson and then extended to Hauppauge at some point. The S58 use to only got from East Northport to Middle Island until around 2000 when they extended the route to Riverhead because of overcrowding on the S62 because of all the people who transfered on at Smith Haven Mall to go to Riverhead as before 2000 the S62 was the only bus that went from Smith Haven Mall to Riverhead and the only bus from the West part of the county that sent stright to Riverhead. The other way to get to Riverhead from the western part of the county was to go to Patchouge and get the S66 and transfer to the S90 which was worse since the S90 only has one bus.
  25. Problem is that Students wouldn't have take Public Transportation. I mentioned this to you else where, back in the fall of 2003 Laidlaw's Center Moriches yard went on strike for a few days at the start of the school year. I was the ONLY HS student that took SCT to and from school. I know this because the bus driver asked my why I was the only student to ride the bus. Parents would either drive the students, they walk, or they car pool. However like I said the strike was moot because it had nothing to do with the topic of NICE cuts.
