  1. Thanks for sharing. Results were in line with that I expected, especially the 'more service on weekdays or weekends' tradeoff question. Bee-Line is near non-existent on Sundays.
  2. Another XDE60 involved in a crash. 😔 https://nextdoor.com/p/DZq3cWYksHRS?utm_source=share&extras=Mjk0NzY5MTU%3D
  3. Wouldn't this decision rest with WDOT? Totally agree that the route should end at the Transcenter--I can't imagine a cost or time savings so significant that would justify starting a route 5 minutes away. Seems like a way to persuade riders against the route if you ask me. Always wanted to ask this here, can someone explain how this route directly competes with the Harlem Line? Aside from the prestige and frequency of Metro-North, this argument has always confused me. I know the routing is similar, but unless you're boarding the bus nearby 42nd, this route mostly eliminates the need to transfer to any other mode or route.
  4. I was one of the unfortunate fools who waited until 9pm to leave the city just as MNR suspended service. I'm very happy they kept the station and trains open for folks who were virtually stranded. The mudslides and erosion from Ida are incredible.
  5. Very excited to see the return of some semi-express AM/PM runs--my current inbound/outbound trips resemble pre-pandemic volume. I do expect most of the new trips to run light until Oct.
  6. You get on a limited-stop run with those Arrorw's, it can feel like the car might fly right off the track. When I used to commute to Metropark daily, the express train I took was usually an Arrow set--as I exited the train each morning, I could smell the brakes after the set quickly came down from 80mph.
  7. High floor equipment have their days numbered. I'll be sad to seem them go.
  8. I know it is very premature to ask, but are there any proposals around service frequency?
  9. Had nothing else in the arsenal, so you leveraged an insult. Classy.
  10. Somehow we made it from "LIRR conductor commits fraud" to "here's how the MTA is preventing passenger fraud." Exhausting.
  11. I'd have some sympathy, but those jobs are extremely well paying. It's the greed for me.
  12. I'm confused a bit. If this tech proves to be useful, is the idea to retrofit ALL the M7's or just ~enough to work the diesel territory? A part of me wonders if they couldn't just build independent battery-operated cars that could trail/lead an M7. Retrofitting feels....like a waste of time.
  13. I agree, but interpret this differently. If a train is enroute to a different borough, I'd like announcements to say "This is a X bound Z". Up/Downtown should really only be used in Manhattan. My biggest pet peeve still remains on how they describe express service. A 5 peak-hour express train is very different from a 5 off-peak hour express train.
  14. NYCT is soliciting public comment on how we describe a trains direction and destination. Thought I'd share.
  15. How many set do you reckon are in revenue service?
  16. You're talking around my point. More space on a train provides more space on a train. If more space on a train causes a dramatic drop in need for trains, then headways will be adjusted. Don't artic's provide ~20% more space than their 40-foot counterparts? Might be a bit of a reach to think that a max of 5% more space on a train would be enough for the MTA to reduce headways.
  17. Not trying to bite your head off, but it's this sort of thinking that has kept one of largest transit agencies away from open gangways. London Underground (TfL) does nearly what MTA does with open-gangway sets. It's not a theory. More space on a train is more space on a train. Back when crush loads were still a thing, open-gangways would have provided additional space to straphangers where space didn't exist before. There are just so many other areas to scrutinize. Like: Did CBTC really provide enhance service along the Flushing Line? Where are the benefits of closing the subway each night? Instead, the circuitous question that keeps prevailing: will more space on a train provide more space on train?
  18. I should have been more specific. I find it interesting peak fares are still being collected.
  19. The fact that they still have trains with 'peak' designation is what kills me.
  20. This makes me miss the trackside bar carts and two boots. GCT once had its cheap options too. But building a high-end food hall across the street from another high-end food hall made all the sense in the world.
  21. I'd be surprised if service returns earlier than noon tomorrow for any of the 3 commuter agency's.
  22. No this I don't hate. If there there was a bit adjustments with the traffic lights along Sanford, you'd 1- decrease travel time on the route and 2- remove all of the tight turns the 42 makes and 3- connect to 2 lines vs just the 1. Dont know if Westchester would have the latitude with NYCDOT to have a line connecting two lines tho. I dont think you'd need to make that many modifications with the 7 and 55. I'd just shift the 52 to the areas where the 42 used to serve.
