  1. Essex St. Tower covers 2 Av, and the Broadway/Lafayette Interlocking.
  2. Albanese is definitely one of the best Schoolcar Motor Instructors. Yes, he has a personality that takes getting used to, but what everyone here says is the truth. He will teach you as long as you are willing to learn. And you will learn what Junkboxes are. My first time taking a train down the road, I brought an R68 into Bay Parkway S/B on the West End fast, took a nice brake, and stopped smoothly. He turned to me, smiled, and said, "Not bad." One day, he told me to walk around CI Yard barefoot. I started taking off my boots. He asks, "What the hell are you doing??" My reply: "Well, you told me to walk around the yard barefoot, and I actually like being barefoot." He just gives me a look before telling me to get the hell outta there (jokingly, of course). Take things one day at a time. Search for the Schoolcar Survival Guide thread and read it. Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask questions. When it's time for Road Posting, I always take students.
  3. The Open Competitve Exams test basic reading comprehension, math, and touristy NYC questions (what borough is JFK Airport in). A Passbook isn't going to help you.
  4. Congrats. I would suggest reading the Schoolcar Experience and Schoolcar Survival Guide threads to get an idea of what you're in for. Get through Schoolcar first, grasshopper, then probation, then worry about OT.
  5. Be like a sponge. Absorb everything, good and bad. Ask questions, even if you think they are dumb. Better to ask the question and be sure, then to do something wrong and try to explain yourself.
  6. 20 days, yes. Call the IVR at midnight. Deadhead is built in. The Work Program displays the pay for the job.
  7. For everyone asking about the bags, I recommend this one from Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-18-in-Tool-Bag-82003N11/203224309?N=5yc1vZc2g6Zrd
  8. You will be tested on preparing a train for Yard Movement. If you have to prepare a train for yard movement by touching stuff, you better do it on your practical.
  9. Congrats, Tommy John. P.S. Did I take you as a student on the on a Thursday morning before your tests?
  10. When you are posting, you belong to Schoolcar. You are only scheduled to work 8 hrs a day. If you post a penalty job, put in the Exception Form.
  11. Congrats. I got to pick also; worked out great for me. How's life in the IRT treating ya? I may hop over there in a few picks.
  12. Very true. My class gelled as the time went on. We spent our lunch and breaks going over everything. I became the signal expert (not trying to toot my horn). We helped each other get through, and we still keep in touch. Yes it is. Especially when you are new, walk in, say good morning, and keep quiet. Mind your Ps and Qs, and be polite. You are being watched. I can vouch for that due to one idiot that was part of my Induction Class.
  13. Don't know that the file numbers are for those on probation, probably close to 4000. Did you end up picking up something? My file number is in the high 3700s. Got off Probation in November. I got an RDO Relief job. To those who just got hired, congrats, and welcome aboard. I highly suggest reading through The Schoolcar Survival Guide (not to toot my own horn) as well as listen to the senior members here.
  14. I do things the Schoolcar way, and I'm usually on time (as long as there's no flagging going on). I do things the Schoolcar way when I have a put-in; I blame the OCD, but I know that at the end, the train is good for revenue service.
  15. If you do things the Schoolcar Way, and do it that way every time, trouble won't find you (unless it's beyond your control). Don't be afraid to ask the questions, and keep asking them until you get the proper answer.
  16. Well, it was St. Patrick's Day, and Murphy was an optimist....
  17. Write whatever your class TSS says. If there is a dispute, and everyone has the same thing written that the TSS says, then there is no arguement. That's how it was explained in my class.
  18. 30 mins a day, every day, and that Signal Exam will be cake. Congratulations, and welcome to RTO.
  19. I forgot to shout-out to TA18, TA19, TB28, and of course, my TB29. We made it!!!!
  20. Happy Anniversary to me!! Today marks the end of my 1st year in Transit (and the birthday of this thread I started). I can honestly say I enjoy coming to work.
  21. Midnights are the best. I've been out since May, and have had the same tour (Midnights by choice) and RDOs. It works for me. I picked up some AM jobs after sitting on the Board; I wanted to put a bullet in my head after a few of them.
