  1. It's amazing how this problem goes on and on for years across special events, rush hour trains, etc, but they never try to make any real changes to collect the revenue. MNRR and LIRR seem to be equally guilty of not caring enough to try and collect.
  2. Oh wow, I only saw that Amtrak was disrupted by it
  3. Oh good, it's not just me that has the trip history feature not working! So irritating. They really can't get anything right. It's hard to tell from the payment history alone if I get overcharged, because sometimes the fares seem to be broken down into weird increments for no apparent reason (like an exp fare that shows as a $6.60 charge and then a separate 40 cent charge. Huh??)
  4. I don't think it would be complicated. No one says an EXP fare cap needs to be based on money spent. It could be programmed that after X number of taps on any EXP bus within a 7 day period, any additional exp bus taps for the rest of the 7 days are free, for example. They could do all sorts of things with the technology.
  5. I thought PTC only stops/slows down trains, not speed them up or control other aspects of their movement?
  6. I'm not super familiar with LIRR/MNRR signal operations, other than what I've read about PTC and centralizing the LIRR towers. Is there a plan for a version of CBTC for the railroads? The upgrades I've read about for LIRR sound similar to ATC, with more centralized dispatching, but not CBTC
  7. I might be seeing things, but I could have sworn I saw an MTA Prevost (one of the older, white ones, maybe an SI unit) NIS with the destination signs displaying "Columbia University". I did a triple take to make sure it wasn't a Columbia U bus or other private carrier/charter, and I am 99 percent sure I saw correctly. Anyone know anything about that?
  8. I've started using OMNY on the express bus, and I find it so irritating that the express bus fare does not count towards the unlimited weekly cap. Even if the unlimited cap only applies to local bus and subways, you should at least get 2.90 of the express bus fare applied towards the cap!
  9. Haha, android all the way for me too Yeah, those cuts are rough in CT this round!
  10. I finally got a chance to poke around through Grand Central Madison and it rely is beautiful. I'm a fast walker so it didn't seem like too long of a walk, but if I needed it regularly I'd need to find the quickest route. It did seem like a ghost town. Very few customers going in or out, but MTAPD was posted everywhere which was nice. It was off peak, but even when I walked into MNRR area, it was so much busier (and I do realize how many more trains there are for MNRR than LIRR, but still) I think there was also an Iphone launch or something bc the apple store had a huge line
  11. Interesting that they say it happened to a train in service. I wonder if other passengers were on board to witness this
  12. Oh wow. I've seen some new faces, but no one got lost so far in my routes
  13. Maybe it's related to the changes they made to make it harder for people to track people's trips after the safety/stalking concerns were raised
  14. Some lady in an OMNY shirt got on the M15 I was on earlier this week and started halfheartedly yelling "no more yellow Metrocard after next week, only OMNY!" which made no sense at all, and stuck a few pamphlets about half-fare rides in the take-one bins. I don't get the sense that the training is too good for these employees LOL
  15. Ahh, oh well LOL. Does this new system at least show the BO the list of upcoming stops or anything else helpful? I've seen that on some Academy routes
  16. Oh, so its shows if you are on schedule, not anything about other buses? That's dissapointing, I was hoping that pilot program that allowed BOs to adjust based on the bus ahead of them was actually being put into use
  17. If anyone uses an actual OMNY card, with it set to auto-fill after the balance dips below X amount, how quickly does the refill get processed after the balance dips below that X amount?
  18. Interesting! I remember reading about that as a pilot program years ago but I never saw any evidence of it actually happening
  19. Once Metrocard is totally shut down (which could still be quite a while given the slow OMNY rollout), will fareboxes be removed from the buses? On a related note, I see that the Roosevelt Island Tram now accepts OMNY, and it counts towards the weekly unlimited ride count
  20. Interesting! I never would have guessed that in a million years lol
  21. What makes it an operational nightmare on West Hempstead?
  22. I suspect darker intentions, mostly because I get the same few B/O's on different buses who magically always have the seats pushed up. Only one time have I actually seen a wheelchair passenger on board
