  1. How did you even get a phone number for the company?? It shocks me how sketchy and non-communicative that company is, and yet they can legally run all over NJ (and frankly do a better job than NJT, even if it feels like you are on a bus in a third world country)
  2. Ha, I posted the same question here a while ago but never got a response. I think this folded up wheelchair seat nonsense is another game the B/Os are playing because I've seen a grand total on 2 wheelchair riders since the Prevosts started running, and I never used to see this on the MCIs. Now I see it on both kinds of buses very frequently. Even if the seats are properly spaced, sometimes the seat is flipped up and the B/O ties the seatbelt in such a way that it it is very difficult to release the seat down to sit on it. This nonsense drives me insane.
  3. Yup, even the big banks are cheap and a bunch still don't pay to integrate contactless into their debit cards (personal or business)
  4. Time for the usual "LIRR employees engage in massive fraud that somehow goes unchecked for decades" article lol https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/lirr-employee-unauthorized-dual-employment-mta/story?id=102163441
  5. I guess I'll sit on the other side next time lol
  6. I hear that, and I also get yelled at by crazy customers at my job but I try to keep a positive face on.
  7. A few observation from using LIRR a few times this week: Is it me, or are the cell signals weirdly weak between Harold Interlocking and Jamaica? I kept noticing my signal getting very low and I could not figure out why, since it is above ground in a populated area. The signal seemed to stay strong after Jamaica. Is this just me or have others had this too? I also am noticing the issue with the permanently fogged windows that was posted here a while back. I got a headache trying to peer through the window. C/Rs continue to seem irritable and somewhat rude overall, so at least some things have stayed the same since I last used LIRR regularly LOL I was surprised to read all the complaints about the Atlantic Terminal trains at Jamaica being "so far away" on tracks 11/12. The walk didn't seem so bad to me for the transfer.
  8. Thanks, that's helpful! I've definitely gotten used to BusTime, which especially for the exp buses, is almost shockingly accurate on arrival times (and if it is wrong, it usually means there was a sudden traffic increase, passenger in a wheelchair, or some other unexpected delay)
  9. Thank you both! That is very good to know, as I'm taking LIRR more frequently, so I'll just stick to the Traintime app, as that seems most accurate, unless you have a better suggestion. Pretty pathetic how far off the data is on the station boards, sheesh.
  10. How accurate are the arrival times on the display boards in the station? I was at a station on the Far Rock line yesterday and the times seemed inaccurate-- it would say "arriving in 3 minutes" when the train was literally already stopping in the station. The Train TIme app seems pretty accurate, but do the board update with the live info?
  11. On MCIs, I have had BOs not turn on the overhead vents until someone complains to them
  12. Thanks all! I hope you can use your uniform allowance to buy a watch, if it's a required piece of clothing! I hate when employers require me to buy things for work purposes but then refuse to pay for it.
  13. Potentially silly question, but officially, how are B/Os supposed to keep track of time? I noticed that the new Prevosts have a little clock that displays on the dash, but i dont think I've seen that on other bus types. On private company buses, I see screens that show the time, the next stops, even integrated GPS directions.
  14. I imagine in the future, a heads up display of some sort may also he used to project images of blind spots, etc, on all sorts of vehicles. And then the age of autonomous vehicles will probably arrive
  15. Looks like 2297 (I think i got the number correct) has a cracked front destination sign. Might have hit something high up. It's parked, and the supervisor car is parked in front of it at 57th and 3rd. I don't know if it will go in service.
  16. Unbelievable. Did you write in a complaint? This lack of communication is a pattern based on the patterns posted here
  17. MTA explicitly instructs BOs not to challenge farebeaters. It's cheaper than having to deal with injured or dead BOs, to put it bluntly (which is how the bean counters think about these things)
  18. Well that actually sounds useful! I imagine that also makes it easier to park the bus in the yard if you have to back into a spot
  19. Thanks, I had a feeling it was annoying given the size and location! Did they give you guys an explanation for the purpose of it?
  20. The screen takes up a lot of space. I could see it being used for blind spot warning screens or other things that might be more useful, but I'm not a BO lol
  21. I have the same experience with the plug doors. Gotta almost bang on it to get it to open. It's quite annoying. I also notice that the BO has a camera monitoring the rear door section. Not sure what the exact purpose is
  22. Oh wow! Thanks! I'd love theMTA to release stats at this level of detail to see those kind of interesting demographic trends
  23. I was just playing around with Bus Time and I happen to see that right now, close to 1 am, there are 2 SIM1Cs running within 5 mins of each other to SI, one with 49 passengers, and one with 29 passengers, and they still both have a bunch of stops in the village left. Is that kind of crowd typical at 1 am on a Monday night/Tuesday morning?
  24. It's embarrassing that they can't even put out this press release with consistent font and sizing! It looks like some college intern cut and pasted various lines together without even doing Ctrl+A to change everything to the same font.
