  1. One person was killed after an out of service Nassau Inter-County Express bus and a passenger vehicle collided in Old Westbury Wednesday, Nassau police said. Police say a car traveling northbound on Glen Cove Road hit a Nassau Inter-County Express bus head-on near I U Willets Road in Old Westbury. The crash happened at around 4 p.m., said Nassau police Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun. Glen Cove Road is closed in both directions from Hillside Avenue to IU Willets Road, police said in a traffic advisory news release. A 12th grade student in the East Williston School District was reportedly killed after a car and bus collided. A NICE spokesman said the bus driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. NICE spokesman Mark Smith said in an emailed statement: "This afternoon an out-of-service NICE Bus traveling south on Glen Cove Road was stuck by a vehicle heading northbound. There were no passengers on the bus at the time. The NICE Bus driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. We are cooperating closely with the local authorities in their ongoing investigation." https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/police-driver-of-car-killed-after-collision-with-nice-bus-in-old-westbury/ https://www.newsday.com/long-island/nassau/old-westbury-nice-bus-crash-fatal-1.50532141
  2. This was confirmed to be 1897 which hit several parked cars on Merrick Road just before 5 p.m. on Thursday. Police said there were no serious injuries from the crash. Some cars were totaled, at least one where the impact from the bus completely reversed the car's position on the curb. One of the light posts that lines Merrick Road was flattened on the street. A spokesperson for NICE would not discuss the accident while they are still investigating. However, witnesses say the driver's brake failed, causing him to plow into parked cars. A witness also saw sparks coming from the bottom of the bus and thought it would go up in flames.
  3. This happened near Bellmore Avenue and Merrick Road in Bellmore at around 5:30 p.m today. It looks like 1897 was impacted:
  4. If the tracking markers are correct, 1930 has now returned to service:
  5. Not nearly as many smashed windows in this auction as compared to past ones. Also, at least one bus is marked in the auction as being able to start. Are you going to re-upload some of the images here from the auction like I've done in past threads for archive purposes?
  6. On Saturday morning, before service was suspended for the afternoon, NICE was only running Gilligs, and only very few of them, across the entire system: On Saturday evening, very limited service was re-instated:
  7. If you are going to post information like this, please include pictures next time. I got them this time. There are 6 buses on the side of the depot (including 1768) and one bus in the back (1736):
  8. At least for the last few 1700s, the inspections were up this December and NICE was not going to have those renewed so the scheduling worked out this way.
  9. The ridership numbers for 2020 have been released for NICE. The system averaged 46,374 weekday riders with the average operating expense per passenger trip on a bus (not Able-ride) being $8.03. https://www.transit.dot.gov/sites/fta.dot.gov/files/transit_agency_profile_doc/2020/20206.pdf Year - Ridership 2011 - 101,981 2012 - 99,754 2013 - 95,854 2014 - 95,197 2015 - 90,936 2016 - 90,457 2017 - 84,969 2018 - 77,333 2019 - 79,530 2020 - 46,374
  10. Some drivers coming into Great Neck already do this anyway so that they can drop off passengers and then go right to parking on N Station Plaza for layover. I guess this change makes it consistent. There was some conversation behind this during the last public meeting. The accusation was that buses in the current n24/n78/n79 bus stop under the tracks were blocking a lane of traffic while they were there and it was disruptive to traffic on Newbridge Rd. One of the members of the panel raised this and suggested that there needs to be some sort of a dedicated area for buses.
  11. Related information from myself is posted above your questions:
  12. A couple of updates: 1) The contract with Veolia has been extended to 2024 by Nassau County - no community meeting held to vote on that. "It was extended per the emergency of the pandemic" - Jack Khzouz 2) No service to Manhattan with NICE is planned anytime soon. That proposal/study that came out a few years back is not being actioned at this time. 3) Mitchel Field is being outfitted with charging stations in collaboration with New Flyer and ABB. One station can charge two buses. 4) The plan is that, even though the XE40s are slated for 240 miles of range on paper, NICE will count on 180 miles of range for a day of service which should cover a shift. There will also be a service vehicle with a charger added to the maintenance department to use if the bus loses a charge out in the field. 5) Per the CEO, NICE is looking to get additional articulated buses next year (they are "pleased" with the New Flyers) and expand them onto the n4 route as well. ------------ Also, a random note since there was discussion about cut routes above, in this evening's community meeting, PinePowerLI asked for the n45 to be restored.

  14. The Orions in this auction sold for between $1,525 and $2,550.
  15. If there is a budget gap, what do you think the first routes to be cut will be?

  17. Reason for the ask: I found this online (go to 1:02:05) - an XN40 makes it under the LIRR tracks in Massapequa Park which is not part of normal routing:
  18. Could an XN40 clear an underpass that is marked as 10'6 in height?
  19. A quick search on YouTube brought up this recent video that took place a few weeks ago so looks like they are still happening:
  20. 2008 and a few others are showing up more often during rush hours (yellow signifies the Gilligs):
  21. An n35 driver went the wrong way today leaving Roosevelt Field and followed n43 routing so they had to turn around in the NYU Langone Ambulatory Surgery Center parking lot on Zeckendorf Blvd.
  22. Yes, a web link exists for this. It has not been shared here.
