dmouse Posted October 15, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 15, 2009 I heard/read this rumor on another site a few weeks ago that the Nova RTS's 96-97 will be rebuilt to continue a useful life, rather than scrapped. So... Anyone Know if this isTrueor BS?
R32 3348 Posted October 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 15, 2009 Don't older buses get rebuilt every 3 years in order to continue their useful life? The 1995-1997 RTS' aren't getting retired yet anyway; the 1990-1996 RTS + O5s are still going and after that, there are plans to retire the rest of the O5 CNG's as well. MTARegional Bus Posted October 15, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 15, 2009 I not so sure. They use to have an overhaul program. As we all know they rebuild new looks and GMC RTS back in day but they canceled that program back in 2004 since the costs of Rebuilding a bus is about the same as buying a new one. So I really doubt the RTS well see a second chance of life

w8Hou Posted October 15, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 15, 2009 One word answer: NO they are done rebuilding buses which are not cost effective. All buses are going through routine maintenance. 5 to 6 years on General Overhaul (e.g. repainting, fixing interiors, etc.)
Eric B Posted October 15, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 15, 2009 They had also talked about rebuilding the Classics, but that obviously was skipped. When they hung around for awhile at ECH storage, it looked hopeful.
