CPBO Posted April 19, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2010 Bus depot guard struck, killed by drunk driver while running across busy Queens highway By Pete Donohue and Jonathan Lemire DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Originally Published:Thursday, April 15th 2010, 11:11 AM Updated: Thursday, April 15th 2010, 2:11 PM The guard tried to dash across the Whitestone Expwy. in College Point, but was struck by a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, police said. He was killed instantly. The driver of the Cobalt, 65-year-old Harley Greenfield, stayed at the scene and refused to take a breathalyzer exam, police sources said. Greenfield, who lives in Manhattan, was charged with driving while impaired, the sources said. Further charges could be added. The guard - whose name is being withheld pending the notification of his family - worked for Summit Security and was contracted to guard the MTA's College Point depot, transit sources said. Investigators believe he was walking towards a nearby Burger King when he was struck at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday. An MTA bus driver witnessed the accident, pulled over along the highway and called for help. Paramedics could not revive the guard. The bus driver, who said he was traumatized by the scene, then went off-duty, according to transit sources.

Forest Glen Posted April 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 19, 2010 Although the driver was drunk, it wasn't really his fault. This reminds me of the Donte Stallworth incident.

nel070 Posted April 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 19, 2010 I have no tolerance for drunk drivers may he get the max for vehicular manslaughter. My only regret is they dont charge him with murder. He must have been a low life to drive drunk, especially when you are a millionaire hire a damn driver.

BusOperator3319 Posted April 20, 2010 Share #9 Posted April 20, 2010 Old news, but sad and heres a pix! This is very sad NYS could do something about this getting a License in this state is way to easy you should have to know the NYS V&TL in order to earn you license as is now people have it easy and if you get caught the first time your license should automatically be Revoked and your car booted and hauld off to the pound or sent to the chop shop
