MTR Admiralty Posted April 24, 2010 Share #11 Posted April 24, 2010 Adding to a little to what Dan05979 said: I know you want to have a little more variety, but it's better to have even more variety. There's more in the subway than just the CPW, buddy. You really have to hit other areas of the subway yourself to really get a sense of things. Theres always gonna be a CPW in it, so just let him carry on... If he wants people to come, he SURLY needs to drop the CPW/St Nich 59 to 125 and maybe even 8th avenue to show others that they can do more instead of plain CPW.. Concourse line on his list seem quiet alright, but the to 59th which is CPW , i doubt any1 ill go... Also , you said it covers up the Bronx, that doesn't sound like the Bronx all the way, could of sworn lines liker Jerome, WPR(never seen that on your list so idc), Pelham.. Buts its a fat no.. Its only a bit.. No pokes but suggestions..

Yep for Buses I prefer the Corona and Forest Hills Section, yeah the Q23 is there (my long fav), but I still manage to expend.. Once i get my cam bk next week, i plan to head to Kings on the Buses and Canarsie on the ! Theres a Lot of OPT, if you cant do outside of NYC, then its fine but head to places in NYC you haven't gone. Like SI, even tho its pretty far and i guess there is a good excuse on that.. line hes done he can try the Jamaica line or Myrtle..

SIR headways are high anyways, just like any railroad, so much of down there isn't the best, unless you wanna get shots of a VERY unfanned area... Of course you do got lots of opts for Staten Island Buses

Of course you do got lots of opts for Staten Island Buses True. The headways are unpleasant unless you do it during rush when it's slightly better. I had to wait half an hour at Tottenville for the train back. There's almost nothing to do there, IIRC.

Dan05979 Posted April 25, 2010 Share #19 Posted April 25, 2010 LOL you're cruel Cruel - No I speak and write the truth. When I was 15 my father got me working at a mechanic shop learning how to rebuild chevy engines and how to drop transmissions from cars. Hanging out with my boys, looking for pretty girls to hang out with from H. school ect ect. This kids life is about railfanning trips on something that he's been on thousands of times. What do you do on these trips anyways? sit on the seat and stare at the doors when they open and close? Dude you don't want to be 22 and have no action in your life, trust me. mark1447 Posted April 25, 2010 Share #21 Posted April 25, 2010 @MTR Admiralty & Mark1447:Well, all the Subway Lines in Queens have great photo-ops, but I do agree that Daniel the Cool should just go a little furthur because I have went to places to railfan that I never thought I would have the guts to come off the train into the station. NYC has tons of stuff that awaits you, ! Well the decision is his, he can keep doing same old hippo line and get no where or expand. I mean all his photos include the CPW line, i would like to see at least once in his photos no CPW any where not 8th ave, and continue.. Then a  to that. Not saying quit the CPW for ever, but not include em in every photo collection you make. If he can do railroads(MNCRR/LIRR/SIRTOA, etc..) then i can understand, but expend, no harm in that... I mean looking at the list hes making, theres nothing new there, except maybe concourse, which i never seen him do. But everything else is a:tdown: Lines he can do as a suggestion(which ive never seen): Bronx: ( (Maybe the but i think ive seen it too) Queens: (M2)[North/East of Roosevelt, ex. 71st and later] Brooklyn: (M2)[With OPTO hes good] Manhattan: [125th Street] Staten Island: SIR [Tho since its far and high headways, theres an excuse for not going so thats not a problem] Those i never seen of em... The ones i didn't list hes done

I know man, I was teasing But you're right. People take this hobby wayyyyyyyyyyyy too seriously and the next thing you know, it's boring. The person did it to themselves, sorry to say. I railfan solo two-three times a month, with a group once-twice a month. If I'm passing that threshold I know I'm doing something wrong.

When I was around 12-13 I would love to get on the first car and look out the window. You can't even do that anymore. I'd be bored to tears and aggrivated if I had to sit on a train for hours and have to be connecting to different lines. I just don't get it. We need more folks like you on this forum. It's good to explore the home line once in a while, but there's more out there in life. I'm not going to say that DTC has "no life", or "has nothing to do besides railfanning the hippos", but I feel this statement is useful advice for not only him but for other people. Just don't overdo it. I myself rarely do trips at all, whether solo or group. I do my commutes, go to school, get my academics, socialise, get home, family time and yeah. And during breaks, I go to my friend's house to chill. Only on few occasions would I explore around.

Me, I'm spontaneous when it comes to railfanning...I don't necessarily "plan" what I do, I just do what I feel like, go with the flow, and I see a lot of interesting things when I'm out. The last thing I did which was "planned" was when I went to New Jersey to check out the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail back in February.
