Me, I'm spontaneous when it comes to railfanning...I don't necessarily "plan" what I do, I just do what I feel like, go with the flow, and I see a lot of interesting things when I'm out. The last thing I did which was "planned" was when I went to New Jersey to check out the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail back in February.

Same, planning is too rigid. It's like, you have to be there at a certain time to catch a certain train. Delays can mess up the trip and you would have to change all the procedures to go to another step. And the strict timing reminds me of being in a tour with a bunch of tourists.

Well the decision is his, he can keep doing same old hippo line and get no where or expand.

 

I mean all his photos include the CPW line, i would like to see at least once in his photos no CPW any where not 8th ave, and continue.. Then a :tup: to that. Not saying quit the CPW for ever, but not include em in every photo collection you make.

 

If he can do railroads(MNCRR/LIRR/SIRTOA, etc..) then i can understand, but expend, no harm in that...

 

I mean looking at the list hes making, theres nothing new there, except maybe concourse, which i never seen him do. But everything else is a:tdown:

 

Lines he can do as a suggestion(which ive never seen):

 

Bronx: ( (Maybe the but i think ive seen it too)

Queens: (M2)[North/East of Roosevelt, ex. 71st and later]

Brooklyn: (M2)[With OPTO hes good]

Manhattan: [125th Street]

Staten Island: SIR [Tho since its far and high headways, theres an excuse for not going so thats not a problem]

 

Those i never seen of em... The ones i didn't list hes done

Don't worry about where he goes and where he doesn't go. If he wants to keep shooting on the CPW, then let him.

 

I know you're only suggesting that he should explore other lines, and thats ok, but you suggest something like this on almost all this trip planning threads. And you're not the only one, I'm just saying.

 

Not directly standing up for Daniel, but let the kid do what he wants. If you don't like how he plans his trips, then don't go on them, plain and simple.

 

Thats just my two cents on all this because I know I wouldn't like people constantly trying to tell me where I should go on my trips. Plan a trip yourself.

Exactly. The best thing he could do is a freestyling trip because the more spontaneous you become the more fun you have as you don't know what you could run into. That's where the excitement of railfanning comes in!

I speak and write the truth. When I was 15 my father got me working at a mechanic shop learning how to rebuild chevy engines and how to drop transmissions from cars. Hanging out with my boys, looking for pretty girls to hang out with from H. school ect ect. This kids life is about railfanning trips on something that he's been on thousands of times. What do you do on these trips anyways? sit on the seat and stare at the doors when they open and close? Dude you don't want to be 22 and have no action in your life, trust me.

But you're right. People take this hobby wayyyyyyyyyyyy too seriously and the next thing you know, it's boring. The person did it to themselves, sorry to say.

 

I railfan solo two-three times a month, with a group once-twice a month. If I'm passing that threshold I know I'm doing something wrong.

 

IAWTP. We need more folks like you on this forum. It's good to explore the home line once in a while, but there's more out there in life. I'm not going to say that DTC has "no life", or "has nothing to do besides railfanning the hippos", but I feel this statement is useful advice for not only him but for other people. Just don't overdo it.

 

I myself rarely do trips at all, whether solo or group. I do my commutes, go to school, get my academics, socialise, get home, family time and yeah. And during breaks, I go to my friend's house to chill. Only on few occasions would I explore around.

 

The truth is, a lot of "railiens" do this hobby because they have nothing else on their hands, and I really envy them, because I absolutely know not how to do the same exact thing every single week. :confused:

Well, obviously he should do more of those, it is just too little, also some railroad quickies can be done like especially around Penn Station, Grand Central, Queens (like Woodside, Forest Hills) I welcome him on my turf just to let him pump out more variety from his quality cam...

 

Well yeah, but he should do one at a time instead, even tho u get access free to Railroad platform here, but in the trains. But then again hes not even a Railroad buff.. Just a Subway Buff..

Yeah, but it is not that I could get Free Access to the LIRR platform, he could also do it, all commuter rail platforms are Free Access. While he is not a railroad buff, he should dive more southward and eastward into the Subways of NYC not stuck in one area like that is his turf...

 

No i mean free access to the platform for shots Unlike NYCT which u have to pay 2.25/1.10/student/etc..

it does get boring to fan the same areas over and over again like for me when i first starting "transit fanning" last summer at 15 i was limited to Baseline Station to hurdman but after a while you realize you get bored quickly so you venture out i started going on other T/A's started taking trains and ect. but you also have to limit yourself to how many times you go i normally go out 2 times a week and maybe a weekend to get some relaxing pics but there is other stuff to concern youself about i.e my girlfriend,home work,and my family and friends

Okay im confused... you got two trips now. (W)/(V) + IRT with an unreasonable .

 

I thought I start a trip that deals with the (V)/(W) Trains on its last day.

 

Meet up at 7th Avenue Downtown Platform last car at 4:00 PM

To W 34th Street

To 71st Avenue with photo ops

back down to Herald Square

To Whitehall Street

to Ditmars Blvd with photo ops and back down to W 34th Street

 

And for a bonus To 205th Street with photo ops

 

So if anyone's interested reply in this thread.

but is 116th needed for this trip? Plus you dont need to use the to get to the Bronx, you can get the is most parts of manhattan dude.

 

You coulda of started your trip at 125th/Lex for or if you wanted to start at 62nd(dunno why) you could take to Atlantic to grab there.

I usually don't railfan the in the Bronx. And I want W 116th Street for a photo op in Manhattan.
