Vistausss Posted May 13, 2011 Share #51 Posted May 13, 2011 no. it's not. it looks like a rapid transit system, it works like one, but it's not. PATH is under the jurisidtion of the Federal Railroad Administration. rapid transit lines like the subway are not, they are wacthed over by the Fedral Transit Administration. this was taken, by me, out the back of a PATH train between Journal Sqaure and Grove street. If PATH was a rapid transit system, this view would have been impossible because a rapid transit system can't share a Right of way with a railroad without a devider. Yeah right. So you're actually saying the PATH-website lies about it's own system?
cotb16 Posted May 13, 2011 Share #52 Posted May 13, 2011 What did they want there instead? A Whole Foods? I remember reading about that in a few old NY Times articles from the 90s where there were similar battles against Pathmark in Harlem and East Harlem as well as Springfield Gardens. They were afraid of Pathmark killing off the small businesses along Merrick Blvd.
Grand Concourse Posted May 14, 2011 Share #53 Posted May 14, 2011 The day the JFK Express was eliminated was a tragedy. That line was epic. All that train did was charge more and took ppl the same path as the does now. You still had to get off at Howard beach to get the bus to the airport. traildriver Posted May 19, 2011 Share #54 Posted May 19, 2011 @Roadcruiser: Screw those NIMBY's. If we want to build something here in The Netherlands, we often negate those NIMBY's, so do other countries. Like China? There's at least that one good to come from a totalitarian government. NIMBY's are irrelevant. The government will bulldoze through fantastic projects that will benefit the public as a whole. Objectors? HA! A knock at their door at 3 AM, and they will be taken away, never to be seen again. The closest we ever had was when Bob "The Builder" Moses, ramrodded thru his pet projects (unfortunately though, were not transit friiendly), back in the mid 20th century.
