Subway - What If?

Recommended Posts

NEXT: The 53rd St - Lex Station is closed. The (E) and (M) lines cannot pass through the station. Neither can the (6). Lexington Ave express tracks can though.

(E) Re-routed via the (F) from West 4th to 36th St. Trains also run local along the QBL.

(M) Shuttle from Metropolitan, to Myrtle.

(3) Suspended

(5) Re-routed via the (2).

(6) Runs express between 125th and 42nd

EDIT: Send the (4) to New Lots.

Next: Due to extreme weather, the following tunnels are flooded:

The (2)(4)(5)(6)(B)(D) tunnels from Manhattan-Bronx

63rd St,60th St, 53rd St, Steinway, 14th St, Rutgers, Cranberry, IRT Tunnels, Cranberry St, and Montauge St tunnels.

Assume the farthest trains can go are the station closest to the river. (Exception: Fulton St on the (A)(C) can not be used.)

Also, just to make it that much better, South Ferry on the (1) is unusable. (5) trains can use the loop, (1) trains cannot, and Smith-9th Sts is impassible along with the Nassau St line.

Don't forget about yard access!

(Hey, look at that, the 1500th reply on this thread!)

NEXT: The 53rd St - Lex Station is closed. The (E) and (M) lines cannot pass through the station. Neither can the (6). Lexington Ave express tracks can though.

(E) rerouted via the (R) line from 36 St to DeKalb Av, then via the (B) express to Brighton Beach. (E) trains terminate at 71 Av to shorten the route, preventing a car shortage.

(M) runs via 63 St, and extended to Jamaica Center to replace the (E)

(F) runs from Coney Island to 145 St because of too many trains in the 63 St tunnel.

(B) runs to Astoria via Broadway Express/60 St to avoid congestion in the 53 St tunnel because of (F) trains running there.

(C) rerouted via the (M) and (J) from W 4 St to Jamaica Center to provide alternate service due to no (E) trains there.

(6) runs via the (3) between New Lots Av and 135 St, then via the (5) to Dyre Av just because I like the Dyre Av line a lot.

(5) runs via the 42 St shuttle tracks from Grand Central to Times Sq and terminates there. Provides connection to (6) line.

The Pelham line is served by a green (S) train that runs between Pelham Bay Park and 3 Av. Shuttle buses run between 3 Av and 125 St.

M to 14th/8th? Dude, check the track map. Not only is that impossible but also illogical. Also check the track map for the 6 to 68th Street; that doesn't work either. (why not just send the 6 express if the 5 is diverted already?)

But for your scenario:

(A) via 6th Avenue local between Columbus Circle and West 4th Street

(B) - suspended

(C) - 34th Street Penn Station to Euclid Av

(M) runs via 8th Avenue local between West 4th Street and 53rd Street

(N)(Q) run between Whitehall Street and Coney island

(N)(Q) also run between Astoria and 42nd Street or 34th Street

(R) via 6th Avenue express and 63rd Street between DeKalb Av and Queens

Summary:

6th Avenue local: (A)(F)

6th Avenue express: (D)(R)

8th Avenue local: (E)(M)

Please expect delays due to switching however.

It could theoretically work, with a relay TO, using the middle track south of 34 St. Agreed, however, it is not ideal. About the (6), 59 St would be better. And since the (6) runs ~30tph, the (4)(6) would be too much for one track, so some (6) trains are short-turned.

(A): Via 6th Avenue Express.

(C): 34th Street-Euclid Avenue.

(E): Via 6th Avenue Local, and QBL Local.

(M): Chambers Street-Metro Avenue.

Good luck trying to squeeze the (A)(E)(F) onto one track and then merge the A to express and have it on one track with the (A)(B)(D).

What I would do:

(A) in 2 sections: 207th to Columbus Circle via local - 34th to Rockaway/Lefferts

(C) - 34th to Euclid

(E) - 6th avenue local

(M) - Broad Street
