Park Slope Parents Want City To Freeze Out Ice Cream Trucks.

Oh please... They would be losing a few ice cream trucks when there are fast food joints and junk food options all around the area, so this would be just a drop in the bucket. All I need to do is walk a few blocks in the city and see all of the obese folks walking around to see who has the upper hand in terms of "options". 66% or 1 in every 3 Americans are obese, so folks who want junk food have far more options than those who don't.

But still: why do they insist on removing the 'normal' ice-cream trucks? Keeping their kids from ice-cream trucks will just worsen the effects when they finally get uncontrolled access, say in high school or college.

I agree with you here. When I was young I was not allowed to have potato chips while everyone else was. Today I am addicted to getting them all the time. I wish my parents didn't do what they did to me when I was young.

Why can't you control yourself?

Simple... Because they know about the crap that is put in processed food and they want their kids to eat things with ingredients that they can actually pronounce, which would include ice cream. Again, they said they would be open to organic ice cream trucks, so they are most certainly not "denying" their kids from having snacks. They want them to have healthier snacks or snacks with natural ingredients, which is much better than the processed stuff. Humans were made to eat food without chemicals and all of this other garbage that they put in processed food, hence another reason why the obesity rate is so high here because it takes longer for the body to break down processed food. Believe me when you stop eating processed food and eat food with natural ingredients, you'll have no desire to go back to eating processed stuff. As I said I have friends who have kids and they give their kids natural food, which includes snacks like ice cream, but they don't go crazy with it. Funny how those kids are not obese and don't go crazy for junk food. Often times the processed food has chemicals in it to keep the kids craving for the junk food, hyper and so on.

That movie called "Supersize Me" is a perfect example. The guy started having withdrawal cravings when he didn't go for a period of time without eating McDonald's.

Yes, but yet again, they don't have to get rid of the regular ones, if they aren't going to purchase anything from there. And ya know what? If your kids like it so much show them things like Supersize Me, and Food Inc. and let them decide for themselves.

You know what grinds my gears about this whole damn thing: these people want the government to dictate what can and cannot do. In this instance, they want ice cream vendors banned in certain places. Here's the funny thing though: when said government actually does try to control things like that, everyone cries foul saying they shouldn't involved in such personal matters.

How about this: how about we start holding ourselves accountable for our own personal problems. You don't want your kid to have ice cream? Don't let the kid have ice cream. How about these people try being parents for once and stop relying on laws and such to raise their offspring?

Exactly what I keep posting in these types of threads.

Such is the antithesis of liberal socialist government.

Yup.

Now I do agree with what that guy was trying to show about the damage a constant fast food eating habit can lead to; however, that was taken beyond the extreme. No rational person would eat fast food 24/7 for a whole month. So yes, valid points, but it ended up being 'shock value'.

Yes, no rational person would do that, but certainly you do have folks that eat fast food almost everyday. All we need to do is look around on the street for that evidence. lol
