AA 8th Avenue Posted February 18, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 18, 2009 Before 62a it used some 62s. Previous to that it used R26/8/9s in the late 80s early 90s. In the early 80s it used r21/22 series cars along with some occasional R17s. The "Graffitti Days"! Back in the day...
WestSideJeff Posted February 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 24, 2009 I would've loved to have seen some redbird on the back in the day. No beef with the R62A's, but after 20 years, it needs some variety. Check out the R22 here at :29. This is on the at Columbus Circle.

WestSideJeff Posted February 26, 2009 Share #7 Posted February 26, 2009 Thanks. The Equalizer's a good show (borrowed it from the library last month), but that R22's one of my favorite parts. Mark, you missed the subway at its worst (before the mid-late 80s improvements), but after the summer of 1998 was a great time. The subway was getting cleaner, we had unlimited-ride Metrocards, and half the IRT was crawling with Redbirds.

MattTrain Posted February 26, 2009 Share #9 Posted February 26, 2009 The R62A cars have served the very well back then and it still does today. Redbird trains have appeared on the back in the day, in the 1980's, and still running until the early 1990's.
Princelex Posted February 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted February 26, 2009 I've only seen one Redbird on the in the last 20+ years and it was an odd yet cool site. I remember when the was nothing but I think R21 and R22 trains full of graffiti when I was a little kid. When the got the R62A's in 1985, everyone in the neighborhood was excited. The R62A's have been great for the and it would be weird to see them using anything else, though it would be fun to see them use R142/A's
