The New York Sports Team Thread

Hello everyone. I was just thinking why not create a thread about the NY teams (Express thought feeling etc.). So I was wondering what would you change about each team especially the Mets and the Yankees? Please keep in mind this is not limited to only baseball. Please feel free about mentioning other teams such as Knicks, Giants, Jets, Rangers, Islanders etc. Heres my opinion on the Yanks and Mets:

Yankees:

Well everyone knows Joe has left and will probably not step in Yankee stadium for a number of years. I think a really good replacement would be Joe Girardi. I feel that Don isn't ready. As for the team itself, they need to find younger people, the team itself is getting up there in terms of age. I hope that A Rod will stay but it seems unlikely for the fact that he will probably make more money. A big issue is probably pitching. Overall, things will have to be done, what do you want done?

Mets:

I think the main thing here is pitching as well as the bullpen. Another issue was offense, unlike 2006, the current offense didn't blow people out. For example it was noted that the Mets did not have a single grand slam this year compared to last year.

Feel free to comment on other teams.

Yes the Giant are doing well. Maybe Coughlin changing his attitude, has made a positive impact on the team. Maybe the days of time is everything, and leaving players at the stadium (East Rutherford) when going to the airport, when they are late, is over. Maybe. I know, since I have driven them back in those "glorious" days. It was always fun to pick them up at the airport, after they lost an away game. The awkward silence. None of the drivers wanted to be bus #1 cause they didn't want to deal with the coach, always asking what is the holdup (not to us), but the escort we had by PAPD, on the runway. I loved being bus #1 to see the frustration in his face, and hear the awkward silence. Those were the days.

The Jets whom I also driven numerous times, well they proven they can't hold on to a lead. Mr. Interception seems to not make bright decisions, when the heat gets turned up (when the other team starts making a comeback). Other than that I am a fan of the NFC Eagles, but between the Jets and Giants, I would like the Jets to be the better team, and actually get to a superbowl. Herman Edwards was a good guy and coach. During that playoff game when the kicker missed that fieldgoal that would've advanced them, you should of seem how fast he got to the bus from the airport terminal. He was the 1st one out, and went to the 4th bus, which usually the PR people, and "non-important" ride in. There were a few disappointed fans though. They were the other 3 drivers, and 3 of the 4 Hempstead police officers, who gave us the police escort from JFK to Hofstra. The Giants did do a good will by giving us drivers money when we took them to play Philly, during the winter of '05. We had our own hotel rooms, which was nice, and had field passes. As where the money they gave us went, food (which our employer gave us money for that also when doing "overnighters") and ummmm.......Philly strip club anyone? Sad thing is I was secretly rooting for Philly to win, which they lost.

I'm a fan of both the Giants and the Jets. Every season I hope they both do well through out the season. The Giants turned a bad season start around very fast even though they sort of have an east early schedule while the Jets keep finding a way to lose.

Bring on Clemens. The must do it. They cannot feel bad for the starting quarterback (Pennington). They must do what's best for the team. Now that the season is practically lost they must see what the kid has. Now is the perfect time to do it.

Chad will be quarterback this Sunday. Let's see how it turns out.

Well so far a lot has happened.

Jets:

Well it seems that they are dying badly and Pennington seems to be gone. Hopefully the new guy Clemens can help out.

Yankees:

A Rod has opted out and all I can say is good riddance you greedy bastard since he claims he wanted to still play in NY and yet he opted out. Other than that Girardi seems to be the new guy on the block which I think is an awesome decision for the Yanks. Other than that, a lot will be going on with them.

Mets:

Luckily for them they have been on the back burners despite their monumental collapse. Hopefully something good can come out of this.

Giants:

They look amazing and seem to be having a great start so far. I hope it stays that way.

Any comments, rant, anything, post here.

The Jets are horrid. Chad has make alot of bad decisions, trying to make something happen. He is not the only fault. The defense has alot of problems also. When they have a lead, they get too relaxed, and then collapse during the second half of the game. That is how quite a few games, if not most were lost. They are really going to have to evaluate their team, and make changes. Just the quarterback, is not going to make too much of a difference, IMO.

Le Giants, are doing what they should be doing. They should make the playoffs at the rate they are going. Just hopefully they don't choke like so many NY teams are prone to do. I take that back, since they are a Jersey team, just like the JETS.

The Yankees I can't stand. The reason is well let me put it to you this way. When Sammy Sosa played for the Cubs, when they finished a game at Yankee Stadium, he would walk over to the crowd outside before getting on the bus, and sign autographs. Other opposing team players would also, such as Cal Ripken when he was Baltimore. Most of the Yankees would leave the stadium, and would not even acknowledge the crowd. The highest paid team, with the crappiest attitudes towards their fans, who pay an arm and a leg for tickets. Seeing that constantly, turns one off. Besides I really don't like baseball anyway.

Again even though I don't Baseball, the Mets I would like to have seen go further, and actually win this world series. It would of made me feel so good, to know that they were the better New York baseball team, since I can't stand the goody two shoes Yankees. But as usual they get their fans excited, then stop the excitement as they near their peak. That is very disappointing, and hurtful. Men would definitely know this.

Basketball I quit watching years ago, since I got bored with it. But, I will always remember when Patrick Ewing choked, and Pat Riley just walked off at the end, not saying anything to anyone. I knew he was done, and was tired of the suckiness of the Knicks. I would've done the same.

I am a watcher of Americas new favorite pastime. I ain't talking about adult movies either, even though it makes more revenue than Football, Baseball, Hockey, and Basketball combined. Man are we a horny country.

Its funny, yesterday I read speculations about the Mets being interested in A-Rod. I'm thinking, why would you move David Wright and where would you move him? IF they do even get close to a deal. I'm thinking they should keep David at third and then put A-Rod at 2nd. But a big thing for Mets seems to be offense and pitching.

David has expressed his feelings about being moved if A-Rod is to jump aboard. He basically said he would consider moving.

Sorry for the bump. I'd like to add my favorites, if I may.

Baseball: The Yankees

Favorite Yankee: Andy; Favorite Team: 1978 (Classic Bronx Zoo era team that fought, lost Billy Martin as manager, fell 14-1/2 games behind the Red Sox then under Manager Bob Lemon, and with the Daily News, The Post and The Times on strike, staged one of the greatest comebacks ever, staging the Boston Massacre in September (September 7-9 in Fenway) to set the stage. Almost impossibly they beat the Red Sox 5-4 as Bucky Dent hit a home run off former Yankee (in 1977) Mike Torrez then won the ALCS and World Series)

Football: The Jets

Favorite Jet: Broadway Joe Namath Favorite Team: 1968 (The only Gang Green Team to reach - and - win the Super Bowl. Broadway Joe was as good as his guarantee in the Jets' 16-7 win over the then Baltimore Colts and Johnny Unitas)

Basketball: The Knickbockers

Favorite Knickerbocker: Willis Reed Favorite Team: Tie between 1969-1970 (won 60 lost 22 under Coach Red Holzman and Willis Reed; won their first N.B.A. title over the Lakers) and 1972-1973 (won 57 lost 25 under Coach Red Holzman and Willis Reed; won their second N.B.A. title)

Hockey: The Rangers

Other New York Teams

Soccer: The New Cosmos

Favorite Cosmo: Pele

Tennis: The New York Sets

(At one time we had the Mets (and Tom Terrific), Jets (and Broadway Joe Namath), Nets (and Dr. J) and Sets. This neatness was ruined when the Nets moved to New Jersey and the Sets became the New York Apples.
