Contract states you are to be qualified before doing any route. You are not to just take a route description and do the line. You get into an accident 1. You going to get min 4 points 2. Your distracted driving which turns into improper operation write up on top of the accident. They pay you to learn the line 3x.

This is the problem I have with the new ppl coming in they trying to save the day. Learn the line properly with an operator who knows the line that way you learn it correctly and you follow along with the route description as your learning. Most older guys will take you out there.

Been seeing the older operators teaching/showing new operators on the daily, whether it's near the Ferry St. Training area or out on a ride along whichever route they are to be trained. Sometimes they have up to 3 trainees with them

A bunch of engineers called out sick today. They did it to prove a point, there was an article explaining why NJT engineers called out today but I can't find it.

Engineers have no contract. Simple as that. They did this to prove a point. No holiday pay for Juneteenth for engineers, conductors did. Also, compared to MTA and Amtrak, NJT is paying below what those agencies pay their engineers.

It's an idea I seen brought up before in the past & I don't agree with it in any case.... To concur with something like that, exudes a lack of understanding of how the concurrent sub-networks works within the entire NNJ network.... NJ's hands are tied, being that it's RR network, for lack of a better term, absolutely f***ing sucks....

Probably doesn't exist, but I am curious to see a breakdown (raw number or percentage, doesn't matter to me) of how many interstate riders vs. how many intrastate riders the interstate lines garner (including the Camden-Philly area routes).... I have a bit of a mental note for a decent amount of 'em, but of course that's not concrete....

FWIW, for starters, we know what that percentage breakdown is for routes like the #193, #321, and the #355 :D

As far as the railroad goes, NJT Rail Ops are still dealing with the Christie budget fallout as well as post Sandy fiasco. Trust me on that one

I think there are more PABT - Union City than Union City - Newark passengers on most trips

Agreed but again just pointing out the fact that the 108 gives people in Newark a one way seat to/from Union City, something that would require a few transfers, like taking the train to Secaucus, transferring to a Hoboken bound train, then the light rail or local bus to Union City.

would it even be worth it to eliminate the 108 on that there are transportation alternatives to ny such as the train and light rail at broad street or the 99 to the lightrail

No, because the 108 gives people an option to go to/from Union City, something that NJT Rail doesn't offer

When did the 89 get so heavily modified? I'm looking at the schedule from 2000 and wow. The 89 used to operate via Newark Av/Paterson Plank Road, down 61st St instead of 60th St, operate via Bergenline instead of Park from 61st St to 2nd St, and end at Park and 77th St.

You can thank the HBLR being extended towards North Bergen as the main reason

Lmao I don’t. My instructor last year specifically told me, if it says NJT on it, operated or not, you can ride for free.

I second that notion. That LETP program is no joke

Also it doesn't hurt to ask the conductors if they are cool with your pass/badge
