Why is the n4 experiencing double digit growth in ridership? Could it be that more people are choosing to take the n4 to Jamaica, instead of going all the way up to the Hempstead Turnpike to take the n6?
I don't trust the alternatives that the study has provided so far. Most of the alternative suggested run pararell to existing NICE routes in the area. What the Nassau Hub needs is better connections and to restructure exisitng routes.
It doesn't really matter since both the n20 and n27 rarely connect at that stop. I found it much easier to get off at Roslyn LIRR and walk to the Clock Tower to make the transfer.
Is it possible to build an off street bus terminal in Long Island City? I don't understand why some routes have to serve both Court Square and terminate at "Queens Plaza".
I think some Queens riders are aware of NICE Bus's closed door policy and take advantage of it because the Nassau buses get them to their destination faster than limited stop service in certain Queens routes.
Whatever you're planning to do with the n20 won't work. NICE already beat you to the punch in terms of restructuring the line. The n20 now runs between the Roslyn Clock Tower and Flushing-Main Street. It has hourly service to Hicksville. The n4 shouldn't be broken up during the day since there's people from Freeport and Baldwin by Grand Avenue who depend on the route to get to Queens.
It's also unrealistic to break up the intercounty routes like the n4,n6,n22,and n24, and expect everyone the take a three or four legged transfer to get to one destination.
Where would Manhattan express service start though? I can't think of any place Nassau, asidefrom Hempstead and Mineola that would be a good place for the buses to start.
Does the n27 really need that much service? I haven't taken the route, but I always get the feeling that no one uses the stops between Roosevelt Field and Roslyn. The old n23 trips to Hempstead made transferring to the n20/21 a lot more easier.
I don't see the coming back to fix Nassau's Bus Network anytime soon. Unless some parts of Nassau goes from pro car to pro transportation in a couple of years, or redevelop to justify an increase in bus service (which probably won't happen), Nassau will have a crappy bus system regardless of who is in charge and what bus company runs the newtork. I suspect that Ed Manago didn't care about the buses and only privatized the buses because most of the cuts were going to affect his district.
