  1. The worst is at Canal St S/B when you have an across from the . From the C/R's position on the side, you can't see the holding lights for the (A)'s track, so the C/R honestly doesn't KNOW which train is going to leave first unless the tower directs us.....it's just whoever's holding lights go out first.
  2. Same reason why I actually managed to get the for a couple of weekends last pick, despite being in the West.....
  3. There is this guy at Kingston S/B on the who I see EVERY SINGLE WEEK who is begging for somebody exiting the station to swipe him in. I always make it a game to close the doors right as he's getting that swipe (IF he gets it....)
  4. That's a pretty common move. Bringing the in on the express track allows for a faster relay, since the train doesn't have to go all the way to the yard, and is done if that train (or that train's leader which is still relaying) is late. Last weekend they were working on A1 so EVERYTHING was coming in on A3, which led to a lot of frustrated customers who got held outside Euclid only to see the pass them and then be gone before they could connect to it. My point is that for $2.50 to go from Bensonhurst to Fordham is still a steal. The subway is MASS transit, and doesn't just serve you.
  5. You guys disappointed me tonight. Last weekend everybody went totally apeshit over R62A's running on the to Flatbush, but I didn't see ANYONE come out to ride my via 8th Ave tonight. R68 on 8th Ave!!!! OMG? Anything coming from 4th Ave, but especially the , can suffer from the parade of work trains coming out of 36 St Yard. If you're really in THAT much of a hurry to get home, that's what taxis are for.
  6. A train is a train. I went the whole way from Bedford Park to Coney Island on the last week before I even realized I was operating an R68A, until I saw the 5000 number plate when I was keying open doors. But I'm sure if half the people here happened to catch my train, they'd STILL be talking about it today!
  7. Oh that must've been your OOS that came in across from my last night at 59 St
  8. No no no no....the brass took care of it. They issued us a new announcement script to tell the passengers to stay off the tracks and behind the yellow line. Once we inform the customers that these acts are dangerous, we won't have any more 12-9s....
  9. Yeah after the last goes to Flatbush, the next couple of them go to Utica or New Lots before the evening Bowling Green service starts. The New Lots trains lay up in Livonia, the Utica ones lay up on the end block of the relay tracks. It's the reverse in the morning, with the first uptown (5)'s coming out of New Lots and Utica before the first southbound has a chance to get down to Flatbush.
  10. Thanks for the help! I changed the viewing distance to 100 and now the program is running flawlessly. I also had a T/O come over to "post" me tonight and he taught me the proper braking mechanics for making station stops. I'm doing much much better now --- the only two stations still giving me trouble at 14 St coming S/B on the , and Prospect to Church on the (I overran that station 4 times in a row before I finally got it....the platform just sneaks up on you!). Otherwise I'm hitting the 10 car marker almost every single time now. Perhaps I'll have a successful career as a T/O afterall!
  11. It's still under investigation, but I'm going to guess that it was THE RAIN.
  12. I played openBVE today for the first time in almost a year. Observations: 1. There is a severe lag problem when I play. The screen will freeze for about a second at a time, and this happens every 10 seconds or so. I've tried tweaking the video settings (and fullscreen and window modes) with no luck. I have a computer system that handles FSX just fine, so I would think BVE wouldn't be overkill. Anyone know if there's a quick fix to this? 2. I'm really amazed with the amount of detail on the newer routes. I did the shuttle and parts of the and they are almost to the spot exact! The signals are working now too - including timers! The stations even have the staircases in the proper places....the only weird omission are the conductor's indication boards, which leads me to.... 3. I can't make a proper station stop to save my life. If I ever promote to T/O, hitting the 10 car marker is definitely going to be my biggest learning curve. 4. What's with the lack of IRT routes? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but apparently they've STILL only developed the and , meanwhile most of the B-Div has been completed!
  13. The pick offices have big boards with a list of all of the jobs. If a name is filled in, the job has been picked, and if it's blank and you are the next one to pick, it's yours if you want it. You can only pick jobs within the same district and same tour, but can pick multiple lines within that district different days of the week. The majority of jobs are straight jobs, where you can have the same job M-F, but there are also RDO Relief jobs, where if somebody has D-301 straight but picked Thursday&Friday off, and somebody else picked D-302 with Sunday&Monday off, a third person can pick D-302 on Monday, T/W off, and D-301 on Thursday&Friday. Saturday & Sunday jobs are less complicated since only one person can pick them, so if the name is blank next to the job, it's available. There's another list with the day off slots and so many people can pick each combination of days (Sunday/Saturday, Monday/Tuesday etc) for that district and tour, once again if there's an open slot, you can have those days off. S/S obviously fill up first, followed by F/S and then S/M, so most people with less than 10 years of seniority will be forced to pick weekend jobs and then have their two days off during the middle of the week. There are also jobs like extra list, vacation relief, work trains, etc where your daily job changes day to day and your days off and tour can change every week.
  14. The #1 thing that has been driving me crazy lately is these customers who jump from car to car via the platform every single time we make a station stop. The panhandlers are one thing (and yeah they annoy me too), but these look like regular commuters. Once they start holding up the train, I not only don't care if I leave them behind on the platform, I TRY to close the doors as they're between cars. What are they doing - trying to find a seat? Trying to find the magic car on the train that will get them home faster? Once in a while I even get a group of people doing it, and they all follow in a single-file line....occasionally even dragging their children along. Well I'm not gonna keep dwelling at the station while you move from car to car. If there's something wrong with the car you were in, let me know, otherwise sit down and stay put!
  15. Well those N/B trains need to come from SOMEWHERE.....
  16. Actually Plan IV/V calls for the to run between Dyre and 149 St. It's to give the snow a quick chance to melt by getting those trains under ground for a couple minutes.
  17. NOTHING stops the GO. Not snow or rain or fire or hurricanes or plagues.
  18. Yep, that's pretty much what is going on. Either that or they cancelled it to get this board all riled up......
  19. LOL looks like 95% of this forum won't be attending then.
  20. The yard is currently OOS due to weather-related switch damage. Layups are currently being stored on the West End and Brighton express tracks.
  21. Yeah there's a rail on the express track at Roosevelt Ave that keeps breaking...... that was NOT a wrong line up, it was rerouted purposely.
  22. LIRR is cross honoring tonight. Enjoy. Oh, and nobody mentioned the obvious yet, but this is yet ANOTHER appearance of the brown to Chambers!
