  1. We just work here, we don't know what's going on. You need to keep asking the "experts".....
  2. I need to stop by Woodlawn one of these days and give him a proper HELLO.
  3. Supossably they're going to send some 46's over to the Rockaways so that the can run OPTO. They really need to either get those R42's off the line, or make them 10 cars, since they have to stop at the 10 car marker in order to give the C/R a board to point to, which means that passengers at some stations need to dash 150 ft just to get into the rear car if they were waiting at the arriving end of the platform.
  4. Too bad nobody wanted to listen to me when I told them that the would be going to 14 St, followed by Chambers St and lite through the loop, and then eventually Rector St would reopen, instead holding on to this crazy idea about the running from 242 to New Lots. Is there anyone who STILL thinks that's going to happen???
  5. It really depends on the situation. For me, my first pick wasn't TERRIBLE, but I was forced to pick a foreign terminal twice a week (4 trips and 5 trips out of Main St) while my other 3 jobs were good. However, if I didn't go to B-Div (where I had an EXCELLENT second pick) my second pick in the A-Div would have been even worse - another 2 days forced out of Main St (but no 5 tripper this time), and the other 3 would have been either the 1 (which isn't a bad line, but I wouldn't have wanted 3 days over there) or more of the 7. Most of the time the more time you have, the more selection and choices you will get with every new pick (eventually you'll be able to get 5 days out of your home terminal....eventually you'll be able to get AMs.....eventually you'll be able to get a piece of the weekend). This was an unusual case in the A-Div though, since a bunch of construction flagging and misc T/O jobs got cut, everybody LOST seniority and the last couple of people who had jobs are now being forced back to XX.
  6. Hey, aren't you supposed to be banned?
  7. I remember a banned poster on this forum who was obsessed with talking about the signal exam. And he's thick enough to not listen when we told him that the signal exam isn't even until towards the END of school car. youngblaze, I think you hit the nail on the head. At least "Train Fan" doesn't have access to The Crew Room......
  8. No, they don't. They think that because they've read this forum and nycsubway.org cover to cover they know everything that happens down here and form their own perceptions. And these are usually the folk who don't make it through schoolcar.......
  9. It's only speculation from the foamers who want the see the R62A's on a line they haven't been on before. Pay them no mind.
  10. How do you know that? They claimed that A3/A4 were gonna be out for 3 YEARS after the Chambers relay fire, and they were back in a month. I was also told that the Dyre branch would be down for WEEKS after the hurricane, and we were running shuttles 4 days after the hurricane.
  11. The other day I was running an errand near Penn Station (8 Ave Side) and needed the D. Instead of taking the A to the D, I went to the uptown local platform so I could catch either the C or the E, both of which connect to the D, and combined come more often than the A at that time. A C comes right away and I get on, and see an A arriving across from me. I COULD have easily ran across the platform and got on that A at 42 st (wooo express past 50 St!!!!), but instead I stayed where I was, and beat it into 59 St because that A was being held south of 59....because there was a D coming in right ahead of it. If I changed to that A, I would have had to wait another 10 minutes to catch the next D. I never got a straight answer about Pelham Parkway but it supposedly has to do with not having proper signals to handle a station stop there.
  12. Yes, those maps are outdated and full of mistakes. Tk Y3 is fully intact from E180 to Dyre. There isn't going to be an below 34 St on weekends for a good while. There's still a lot of work going on in lower Manhattan and Montague.
  13. Nobody cares what you think. Not unless you're a line superintendent or higher.
  14. I'll give you the one piece of advice that I give everyone (and advice I actually took myself when I was new) - log off and forget this forum exists. Just do what your schoolcar instructors tell you and don't worry about what you hear from anyone else in the crew rooms or on here. Once you are broken in, pass your probation and know your chit, then feel free to come back here and haze the newbies who think THEY know everything.
  15. Well the A-Div equipment is better than anything in the B-Div except the R-46, from the position of a conductor.
  16. Reading this thread makes me wonder if you're all in competition to be this forum's new Donald.....
  17. Go work the middle track on the Flushing line and you'll see plenty of KOSHER signals.
  18. No, mishandling the jumper cables is what will BREAK you.
  19. You'll find out the first week you get hired.......don't want to ruin the surprise!
  20. Yep, I've done it before. Express from 148 to 96 means bypassing 135 St by wrong railing from 142 to south of 135 and then going through the middle pocket to 125.
  21. The Flushing Middle track gets used 24/7. They can't give the test train exclusive access to it. The middle track between E180 and Gun Hill WPR is given exclusive access to the test trains between 1045-1400 on days that they want to use it, per GO (mostly because the Dyre line is level and the WPR line is steep and also because the WPR line has a regular signal system), but most of the testing is being done on the Dyre line due to the signaling system which can be deactivated, so that it can go back and forth as it pleases.
  22. They pay minimum wage during the first week ONLY. #1 it's because they need to get a million people to come down and talk to you and your pay goes towards paying for their taxis (if you think HR folk ride the train then you are dumb) and #2 because a good number of new hirees storm out once they find out that they have to work midnights or once they see the third rail jumper cable video and they still gotta get paid for their time, so the TA doesn't waste full pay on quitters. If you get a perfect 100 on the final exam, you will receive back pay for the first week to get you up to the $30.
  23. Tomorrow try staying on the same 6 from Pelham to 23 St and see how much time you save!
