  1. Table 3: Long List of Alternatives Alternative Description 1. Rapid Transit Alternatives under Second Avenue 1A. Original Full 1974 Alignment of the Second Avenue Subway New full-length subway beneath Second Avenue, extending from the Bronx to Lower Manhattan. This subway would cross the Harlem River from the Bronx to Manhattan, and then travel under Second Avenue and then Chrystie Street ending beneath Water Street in Lower Manhattan. 1B. Second Avenue Subway North New subway beneath Second Avenue from Upper Manhattan to Midtown. 1C. Second Avenue Subway South New subway beneath Second Avenue from Midtown to Lower Manhattan. 1D. Second Avenue Subway Eastward Alignment New full-length subway beneath Second Avenue, extending from the Bronx to Lower Manhattan. This alignment would be the same as the original alignment (1A, above), except that it would bend eastward to travel along East 10th Street, Avenue B, and East Broadway, so that it would serve the Lower East Side. 1E. Second Avenue Subway with Southbound Connection to/from GCT Connection from Grand Central Terminal to Lower Manhattan, either as a subway or direct commuter rail link. 1F. Second Avenue Subway with 43rd Street Inter-line Connection New full-length Second Avenue Subway with connection across 42nd Street to the Broadway line. 1G. Second Avenue Subway with 43rd Street New Jersey Connection New full-length Second Avenue Subway with a connection to an east-west subway along 43rd Street. 2. Lexington Avenue Subway Service Improvements 2A. Signal Improvements Signal improvements along the existing Lexington Avenue subway line, to increase capacity by allowing more trains per hour. 2B. Platform Extensions Platform extensions at existing Lexington Avenue line stations, to allow use of 12-car trains rather than the existing 10-car trains. This would increase the capacity of the system by up to 20 percent. 2C. Segmented Connections to Other Subway Lines Connection of the northern half of the Lexington Avenue line (either local or express tracks) with the Broadway line through a new tunnel connection to the 63rd Street tunnel at Lexington Avenue. The Lexington Avenue line north of 63rd Street would also be converted to “B” Division service. (“B” Division trains, which run on the Broadway line, are larger than the “A” Division trains that run on the Lexington Avenue line.) Service on the Lexington Avenue line south of 59th Street would remain in the “A” Division configuration and would terminate near 59th Street. This alternative was intended to increase capacity on the Lexington Avenue line by increasing train size and adding the Broadway line tracks. 2D. Local Service Extension An extension of the Lexington Avenue subway local service to Lower Manhattan. 2E. Skip-Stop Operation Skip-stop operation on the Lexington Avenue line to increase throughput. 3. New Metro-North Railroad Stations in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan 4. Bus Alternatives 4A. Bus Service on Dedicated Avenue Dedication of either First or Second Avenue to two-way bus service with other traffic limited to local deliveries. This would allow increased bus speed and reduced travel time. 4B. Bus Service on Paired Avenues Provision of two primary dedicated bus lanes each on First and Second Avenues. 4C. Trolley Bus on Dedicated Busway Provision of dedicated lanes for trolley buses in either of the configurations described for 4A and 4B. 4D. FDR Drive Busway Provision of a dedicated lane for buses and high-occupancy vehicles on the Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Drive. Summary Report 7 10/11/2001 Second Avenue Subway Summary Report MTA NYCT Table 3: Long List of Alternatives Alternative Description 5. Light Rail Transit Alternatives 5A. Light Rail Service on Dedicated Avenue New light rail transit (LRT) service on an avenue dedicated to its two-way service, extending from 125th Street to South Ferry in Lower Manhattan. 5B. Light Rail Service on Paired Avenues New LRT service in dedicated lanes on both First and Second Avenues, extending from 125th Street to South Ferry in Lower Manhattan. 6. Private Franchised Jitney Service 7. Ferry Service on East River with Shuttle Bus Service 8. New East River Stops on Existing East-West Subway Service New subway stations on three existing east-west subway lines: at First Avenue and 63rd Street on the Q route; at First Avenue and 59th Street on the Broadway line; First Avenue at 42nd Street on the 7 route; and Avenue C at 14th Street on the L route. 9. Transportation Systems Management (TSM) Improvements Alternative that meets goals and objectives of study to the extent feasible at relatively low cost. This alternative was a requirement for FTA alternatives analyses. Not yet defined when the long list of alternatives was developed; to be composed of elements identified during the development and screening of the long list of alternatives. 10. CombinationAlternative Not yet defined when the long list was developed; to be created from alternatives that could not stand alone to meet project goals. 11. Elevated Transit Elevated transit along Second or First Avenues. 12. No Action Alternative All transportation facilities and services that will exist in 2020 without implementation of any improvements as a result of the MESA Study. This alternative was a requirement for the FTA alternatives analyses and NEPA.
  2. A few years ago on an R160 I saw metal straphangers, was this a test?
  3. Some , and trains go there in rsh hrs. Some (5)s also go to Utica Av.
  4. according to subchat poster Stef R188 Recap: 7838-43 are delivered and were transferred from 239th St to Pitkin Yard Last Night. One of the SBK Locos operated as the lead loco going South.
  5. Yesterday I saw a Q37 put in to Aqueduct. Whenever I need to take the Q46 from Parsons in the afternoon between 4PM and 4:40 PM it usually takes 10-15 minutes before the bus comes and then I see two or three buses in a row. In the meantime I usually see 5 or 6 Q46s in the other direction. The Q46 is so crowded that you have no personal space and you can barely hold onto the pile. I think the Q46 needs articulated buses. Also, yesterday I saw a Q10 with it's normal reading then it suddenly changed to EMERGENCY CALL POLICE on the back it said Call 911 Call Cops The bs looked perfectly normal and I think it was just a mistake. 6. On Saturday night at about 10:47, which is before late night service I saw an on the local track @ 71st Av. I also saw a rollsign mistake on R32 # 3864 in service on the . It was that it was set to Concourse/8 Av/ Fulton Lcl Yesterday I saw an R46 Layup set to Not In Service on the LCD at Union Tpke (the weekend layups are usually R160s) About an hour or so later I came into the 71st Av station and I saw the same layup train pull into the station on the express track and pull into the station and just sit there. Then I saw an come into the station on the local track and I boarded it and then it switched to the express after the station. In the last few days on three occurrences I saw two consecutive R160 sets in the same station but on different trains. I also saw the long line of R68/A layups on the uptown broadway express track. I have a question? What happens to the three trains that terminate at Union Tpke in the AM rush after they come out of service? Using Tapatalk
  7. 7216-7220 with 7899 are at Pitkin. You can't run a 5 car train, well I hope... http://www.subchat.com/readflat.asp?Id=1263043&p=1#1263147
  8. I guess you forgot about mine but can you change it too via 8 Av Lcl and 53 St Thanks Using Tapatalk
  9. I have seen people's pictures of path during the photo ban, but how seriously do they enforce it? Is it more serious near the PATH station at WTC. I don't think it makes sense because people plotting can take pictures of the new and amazing WTC. Then tourists can't take pictures of it. The rule makes no sense. Using Tapatalk
  10. But why was there that code in the first place? Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
  11. They should also have the bullet in the side sign. They should definitely have it in the front. I can,t tell whether it is an or an(F) unless an R46 comes and I know it's an F. I hope it would be an R46 E and then we would all start foming Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
  12. I have an N R service change pamphlet from the '90s Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
  13. It would make it easier and it was planned since the 1970s with all the other plans that did not work out. I forgot which route went via the LIE. What is it again? Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
  14. I personally think they should build phases 3 and 4 with 4 tracks. A rote via the Williamsburg bridge(a rerouting of the M.) A new V would run exp via Culver and 6 Av A route via Nassau St to Bay Pkwy via West End. Some sort of route in the LES. Express for Phases 1 and 2 can be added below the local tracks in a different tunnel like the Lex Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
  15. What corridors will have FasTrack in 2014? Possibly QBL East of Roosevelt? The tiles at Union Toke are horrible! They are brown, several are missing. The ceiling paint is totally chipping away. It seriously needs to get repainted. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
  16. A few weeks ago I saw a bus in Great Neck that said promotional bus. What does that mean? Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
  17. I think City Hall should have a transfer to WTC and Fulton Center instead of Cortland st due to the proximity to Park Pl and Chambers St. Bowling Green should have a transfer to Whitehall-South Ferry, so passengers can stay on the R until Whitehall where they can transfer to the or and back to the R. Also, passengers won't have to transfer to the or they can transfer to the 4 or 5.Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk Harry, can you make it visible for the time for the last post on the stickeys on Tapatalk,ThanksSent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
  18. I hope the same. Is it possible to split one of the Slant sets up so one is at each end? If they were still attatched and were at one end people would fall while trying to get through cars. It would be a problem no matter where the slant cars are in the set.

  20. Note:This is not where I found out about the R110As For those interested as per my contacts: R110A 8006-10 were on the move tonight, 239th to 207th St Yards, they were part of a tow job. According to the contact, Museum R33's 9010-11 and 9206-07 took up the south end with 8006-10 behind them, and a single R33 Work Motor on the north, 93xx (don't have a number handy). 8006-10 have an appointment with the shop as these too (in addition to 8001-05) will be converted to a pump train. Very interesting indeed. I was expecting a diesel tow, wasn't expecting Museum Cars to take up the run. --- The R188's: several are currently residing at Pitkin Yard, for testing and other work. 7216-20 with 7899 7822-26 Newly Delivered 7833-37. As 7833-37 were towed dead last week, they were sent down to Pitkin to be made functional and they too would undergo testing. Keeping any eye on 239th St Yard, nothing else seems to be happening with the R188 Deliveries at the moment. Last item: R142A 7242 has a date at the Kawasaki Plant. It was spotted on Wednesday in the vicinity of Van Cortlandt Park, headed to Yonkers. This is courtesy of Stef of subchat.
  21. I was on the holiday train today and a transit worker who works at 207th St answered many of my questions: Concerning the preservation of R1 #103; I just put it in the shop to get repainted Car assignment changes? Besides the R62As to the and the R188s to the nothing else. CLASSIFIED INFO R110A set 8006-8010 from 239 St has been moved to 207 St to be converted to pump cars like the other set. Repainting of R36WF 9586-9587; Probably going to be repainted red not blue and white like 9306. R143 #8277-8280 at 207; Getting repaired, will take some time R17/R21 @ Concourse; Probably going to be scrapped at some point later; hoped they could be saved Scrappings? Nothing being scrapped at the moment R179 Car assignment Not sure yet, possibly the , but problem with the power from LIPA in the Rockaways like the R160s had. Possibly in service to Lefferts, but it would be a problem if the train had to be rerouted. How would later car orders work out? Possibly with different power Are the R12/R14 @ 207th going to be preserved? I think so With the R156s coming will the older locomotives be scrapped? Probably not, the R156s aren't working out that well , they can't pull that many cars, maybe a few flatbed cars? Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
