  1. I have to disagree with your statement on Gilligs. While I do agree that their buses have gotten better, they are still pretty crappy buses. When I ride those in Buffalo, even their newer 2010 buses rattle like crazy. Additionally, when it comes to the LFS first gen, again in Buffalo, these buses run in extremely harsh conditions, yet they still ride as smooth as the 4th gens that Buffalo just bought. It's amazing because how well the buses have held up for so many years. The only thing that I saw need repair on those buses were the doors, but pretty much everything else was in good condition. In fact, Buffalo started retiring their newer Gilligs over the 2000's LFS because they hold up better. On a side note now that I'm on break and back in the city, I've gotten a couple chances to ride the Xcelsior from CS. HOLLY CRAP like what happened to these buses? Their ride quality is almost as bad as the Gilligs I've ridden in Buffalo. My worse ride was yesterday night when I took the Q44 from the Bronx, I always remember the ride being bumpy with the LFSA's but this was the first time I came from the Bronx with an XD60 and it was absolutely horrible. At this point, I'm not sure if it was the buses or the road that got worse, but I do remember when the XD60's were new they even smoother than the XD40's.
  2. Any data on CBTC activation at this time? I heard about a test, but I haven't really seen anything yet.
  3. I was on the today and got off at 74th st and noticed the sign for CBTC. I didn't get a chance to see the signals, but it seems that they are almost ready to go if they haven't already.
  4. So I was walking past Flushing yesterday and they opened the new staircases. While the elevators look like they're in place it seems that they aren't ready yet. The middle area also seems like it needs a lot of work. But the station is starting to take shape and it looks really nice, and people on the sidewalk are beginning to notice. I walked past the station twice yesterday and on both occasions heard people talking about it.
  5. But I'm curious what about LGA service? Currently, anyone wanting to go to LGA from the Bronx needs to either take the subway to Harlem or be near the Q44/Q50. Additionally, the portion of the M60 between Astoria and LGA gets pretty heavy usage. It's not uncommon to see people getting off the to only end up being flagged by an overcrowded bus.
  6. Last time I rode the M98 the bus was so late it came 5 min after the next bus was supposed to depart. I doubt the M98 is a bus they really care for.
  7. Actually people on this forum update and maintain the wiki. However, information is usually spread here before it reaches the wiki.
  8. Yikes, moments like this make me glad I left the city for uni.
  9. Good the suspeded use of articulated buses should result in schools also being suspended.
  10. And I assume schools are still open? Today’s commute is going back to be hell.
  11. I wonder why the MTA isn't looking at the other versions of Nova Buses. I've gotten a couple of chances to ride the CNG LFS buses in Buffalo and they run just as good as their diesel counterparts. On top of that, the LFS does come in hybrid and all-electric versions.
  12. Every time I've been on an M8 it feels like everything is done Manually, no announcements, no displays, Who knows maybe the C/R's are closing the doors be hand now.
  13. Yeah but in a place that doesn't have a subway, you shouldn't be paying a crazy amount just to go a couple of stops. This is a public service, and therefore should not be trying to out price communities. Why do you think the freedom ticket has been so heavily pushed for?
  14. Well, Colorado isn't as dense as NY so no doubt there aren't as many railfans there. For the railfans who are there, I doubt they care about a train made for NYC. They care more about locos and old push-pull carriages.
  15. The only problem I've ever had with the S78 is with its frequency, runtime and lateness is never really an issue with that route. Well, at least when I ride it.
  16. I kinda miss the D60's in Queens I never really got a chance to ride those, or any D60's for that matter. Kinda wish that one would pop up on the Q44
  17. SBS enforcement is like little to none and it's only going to get worse with more SBS lines being introduced. The chances of getting checked on a weekend, holiday, or after 9 pm is incredibly low. Personally, I haven't been checked in over a year and I rides SBS buses all over the city and in many times over the subway. To make things worse since the eagle teams aren't checking local routes, as soon as word gets out they are conducting an inspection, people will fare beat on the local instead of the SBS.
  18. Mhh the funny thing is I never look at the map that way, I always rotate it so that the streets of Manhattan are in perfect compass formation. It's weird to think Bay Ridge is further west than Hudson Yards.
  19. I saw an M34A displaying Waterside on the back sign today.
  20. This is a big problem as many of the LCD's are not working and it on both old and new sets It's already annoying enough to determine if a train express or local, but when the sign is out, it's even worse. Every time a train pulls up it's a mad rush to get seats, Even 3 seconds of hesitation results in either having to stand or take the next train. The Circles and diamonds made it easier for everyone.
  21. It doesn't make sense to have the R143's operate on the without a proper strip map to accommodate it. On the strip map they have a lot of stops with the same name in Manhattan. If it works fine over there, I don't see why it's an issue for the .
  22. The idea would be to have both strip maps side by side. Although no portions of the strip map would be shared, it seems there is enough space to fit both lines there.
  23. Quick Question cause I'm almost never on this thread. But has anyone ever suggested combined strip maps for the R143? It seem there is enough space for both lines to use that strip map.
