  1. I’m on the Q27 and the driver just got off and went into the bakery with a bunch of passengers on board. Thank god No one on my bus is in a hurry or there would be some hell raised.
  2. Honestly that the one thing I worry about when I take express buses during rush. How long was your delay?
  3. It only peak buses that carry people outside of that it becomes your personal taxi.

  5. at this point, it should really just be a free bus service.
  6. anyone know why the Q70 is free this week? Source: http://www.mta.info/status/bus/Q1-Q113/25503740
  7. Wow that really sucks not having a midnight bus makes make it annoying for anyone who wants to stay late. The QM2 honestly has to be the worst line running out of CP, late missing buses all the time, I'm not surprised people stop riding it. Crappy service was why I stopped riding it ... I opt for the QM4 or Union Tpk nowadays.
  8. I finally spotted them yester on the Q53 but they were too busy writing tickets to even check my bus. Funny enough I went from end to end during rush hour in 1h15min which is probably the best I've ever seen for that line.
  9. Interestingly enough the R179's aren't pushing off the R143's on the line, I saw one running yesterday.
  10. So I was taking the and the train went BIE causing it to be delayed. After Broadway Jct the train went express so the C/R changed the FIND system to show all the stops skipped as “Will Not Stop.” Apperently in the R179’s even if the train won’t stop there it stays on the FIND until the train passes the station. Unlike the R160 which just deletes all the stops that the train skips. Lead car was 3089 train and it went OOS at Jamaica.
  11. The a[ppeal is his commute is currently 1 and 1/2 hours on a good day this will cut it in half for him.
  12. Actually, most transit pages on Wikipedia are maintained by people on this forum, so even if it's not perfectly up to date, the information on the page is usually pretty accurate.
  13. I told one of my relatives how lives near ones of the stations, he got excited and said he'll start using it next week. He would normally take the bus to the subway, so I guess the discount was enough to entice him to switch over.
  14. From my experience on Queens Buses lines, there are always passengers that tend to travel long distances on bus routes.
  15. NICE 1812 accident on Merrick and 168th. I see no Visible Damage to the bus. But, the bus is essentially blocking all west bound lanes on Merrick and causing a traffic nightmare.
  16. Queens need to have Express bus transfer points like SI does. Places like 78th for X63/X64/X68/QM18/QM21 and Downtown Service (QM11) Woodhaven Blvd & Queens Blvd for any Midtown bus that doesn't have a downtown equivalent. As for the QM4 on Queens Blvd I'd be in full support of that. Back when the QM1 had off-peak service I recall suggesting both QM1 and QM4 Serving Queens Blvd up to Woodhaven Blvd. This would probably be useful for anyone who wants to go shopping at Queens Center Mall. Also it would be useful because there are a lot of seniors on the nearby QM12 that could utilize off-peak Queens Blvd Service.
  17. It's been over 2 years since I've last been checked and I ride SBS routes all over the city. I find it weird that I haven't been checked in so long.
  18. I believe the Q44 still has at least one from John Brown
  19. IMO the Alexander Dennis buses are nicer than the Vanhool buses, but that's a personal preference.
  20. This is not the first time actually about 10 years ago IIRC the MTA tested some Vanhool buses on the X17J before too. I've ridden these buses in Canada on Go Transit a couple of times. The buses are actually not that bad. While the headroom on the upper level isn't the best when sitting it's perfectly fine. The low floor portion has more headroom would easily be able to accommodate senior citizens and wheelchair users. The main disadvantage that these buses would suffer from is dwell time. However, over time, I believe people would get used to it. Riding the bus in Canada I ride it on route 12 which going a single way is usually around 1hr30min to 1hr45min. This route goes on really high and windy bridges and poorly maintained and narrow roads. Yet these buses actually hold up pretty well, I do expect that they would be able to survive NYC. Route Map and time table: https://www.gotransit.com/static_files/gotransit/assets/pdf/TripPlanning/FullSchedules/Table12.pdf Example of some of the streets the bus runs on.
  21. Well ... it's not that far from the truth.
  22. Any word when the R179's will go back in service? It seems quite odd 3 set would go into service and then get completely pulled from service like that.
  23. Oh yeah on a side note, I finally got to ride both of the electric buses yesterday. While the XE40 felt pretty similar to all the other Xcelsiors, the Pro Terra was very interesting. I'm not sure if this was mentioned before but the main thing I noticed that the rear doors aren't passenger operated. I thought that was extremely odd considering the demo was already built to NYC specs. Additionally, the stop request buttons were weird too there were these weird small red circles. While I hated the Gilig like design with the high windows in the low floor section, the bus was actually quite impressive. The bus was extremely smooth and accelerated pretty fast even though it struggled to go over 30. The final thing I noticed that is pretty important about these buses is the fact that the low floor portion it longer than on a standard bus, much can probably help with fitting more standing passengers.
  24. Well, cosmetic issues can be a good indication of how they maintain their fleet. Well after a certain point all the buses are "technically" the same so in those cases maybe the drivers don't care what they get. If you wanted a 2002 MCI and those were all gone chances are you wouldn't care what bus you'd get after that.
  25. Hmm that interesting to see. Idk how good Buffalo maintenance is, but considering there is a big gap in ride quality, between the Nova's of all gens and the Gilligs there might be more too it. Considering that they were purchasing Gilligs for 15 years and then switch to Nova right after their economy started booming again might have something to do with how bad those Gilligs are. As for the buses here, what tires do the New Flyers have? Because if you're saying the tires were the problem for the Nova's, I wouldn't be surprised if NF buses have the same problem. Before I left for Buffalo the XD60's used to ride extremely well, but now they ride like garbage.
