  1. Consider the psychological effects of the "express/local" dichotomy, especially over longer distances...
  2. How does it look with the existing ? If there are still plenty of people getting off that and taking the at Roosevelt Avenue, there's no chance in hell that plan will work as you hope.
  3. That route needs TSP, ADB, bus lanes, and artics at no less than the current frequencies. The route has a bad history with inadequacy (as in, well before I was even a thought). Hell, you can even see it with the shit-ton of unauthorized minibuses on Flatbush Avenue...
  4. Low use, unnecessary length on one of the longer (and ridiculously unreliable) Brooklyn routes...
  5. Personally, I don't care about catering to travel specifically between New York and Pennsylvania. I'd rather focus on travel between New Jersey and either one of the aforementioned states.
  6. Thing is, some yards have higher requirements than others. Jamaica and Coney Island are possibly the worst offenders, as they have high needs and little space to work with. For the former, they could potentially increase the amount of space for train storage, but the latter would pretty much require a separate yard (like the one up West End).

  9. I mean, it could be a case of extended dwells to try to keep people at those stations from experiencing ridiculous wait times due to not knowing when the incident will be resolved. That's probably too positive, though. It's more likely a case of people not knowing what the hell is going on and entering panic mode...
  10. I'm interested to see exactly how much comes from those who care (as opposed to those who don't). I seriously doubt the politicians will even bother trying to act as a bridge between their constituents and the MTA. After all, the bulk of them have shown to care even less than the ones in the MTA who can't even be bothered to give a shit. Everything I just said applies on a more general scale than just Queens, but because Queens is a particularly difficult borough to address, I can only hope that the bad ideas are kept to a minimum.

  12. Unlike the last thread you started (which honestly should've just been part of the Random Thoughts thread), this can be answered just by doing some research.
  13. I can't really call that surprising. The Brooklyn leg has historically been pretty weak (in spite of the Brooklyn IRT's generally higher-than-average consistency), the Bronx leg has been subjected to more frequent service changes (admittedly, more of an issue for the , but the effects still spill over), and I can't exactly say it's had too much of an impact on Manhattan service.
  14. Thing is, that applies considerably less to the subway (weekends are mostly limited to Queens Boulevard, the Rockaways, and Dyre Avenue/White Plains Road) than it does to the buses. Also, this is going from a fairly small scope to a massive one, which obfuscates the issue at hand, along with the potential to ignore how heavy a role money plays.
  15. The didn't get 8-minute weekend intervals until well into 2016, so I don't know what you're going on about. Yes, and most of the people who attended Trump's inauguration were merely invisible.

  18. I'd recommend comparing the proposed service levels (and local/express structures in certain other parts of Brooklyn and the Bronx). Hell, the issues that I mentioned numerous times with just the distribution of trains is still there.

  21. No, the main issue for that route is definitely 125th Street. LGA can sometimes be bad under normal circumstances, but work is currently being done over there, making the current situation anything but. (If it can't get off 125th Street in a timely fashion going to Queens, it'll get to LGA late, thereby making the return run late, and that has a domino effect, especially since it's not just one or two trips. Hell, the traffic on that one street was cited in that Bx15/M125 split proposal...
  22. Did you check to make sure nothing popped up in the gap? (I only ask because I want to make sure this isn't one of those cases where a train hasn't started just yet but exists in the schedule.)
  23. No. That artificially decreases service at skipped stations, and the has sky-high ridership and high frequency.
