  1. Does this change affect the QM1/5/6? I didn't see any notices about this. Does this mean that the 57th/Lex stop will no longer combine the QM2/20 into the 1/5/6 stop?
  2. I saw 8005 on the X68 at Queens Blvd and Union Tpke at around 8:30 am on Friday. I couldn't believe my eyes! I feel ripped off paying the local fare to ride one of those LFS's, I'd be real pissed to pay the express fare for that ride. It was fairly empty, as there was an MCI X68 right in front of it, so that picked up most of the passengers. I was on a nice MCI QM5 at the time and felt bad for those passengers.
  3. As much as people complain about the 32's, they were built well and hold up better than some newer trains.
  4. Great points, thanks guys! It's also an interesting move by the , since they won't really be able to try to push for OPTO on those lines since the line isn't entirely CBTC. It seemed like the MTA has really been trying to push OPTO from what's been posted here in the past.
  5. Seems kind of silly to not make an entire length of a line CBTC. Like, if the F stop being CBTC after union tpke, won't you get a conga line back up to Jamaica since the trains will need to be spaced further apart?
  6. I thought the T/O exam was only going to be promotional at this point, not open competitive?
  7. This is a case where I hope they put a cop by the stop sign to catch the people who blow right past it. I've seen them do it in Queens after bad accidents and it seems to work pretty well for a while
  8. Another bus accident http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/03/30/14-injured-in-mta-bus-accident-in-canarsie/ NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – Fourteen people were injured, two seriously, in a bus accident in Brooklyn, according to authorities. The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. Monday in Canarsie. A B6 bus was struck by a vehicle that ran a stop sign at Glenwood Road and East 102nd Street, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The patients were taken to Brookdale and Kings County Hospitals. We will provide more information on this developing story as soon as it becomes available.
  9. That's terrible. I see that a lot with traffic enforcement agents and school safety officers, but rarely with regular NYPD officers. I see NYPD officers talking on the phone while driving fairly, but I give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it is a police-related matter (plus I don't think that's any more distracting than talking to a dispatcher on a police or MTA radio to be honest).
  10. I love how no one has cared to mention that even without these vision zero arrests, it's not like drivers who hit pedestrians just walk away scot free. In most cases, they are sued for huge sums of money by the victims. In the cases where the victim wins those large sums, insurance often won't cover the full cost and the driver can go into large debt paying off the remainder. This is in addition to any points on his or her license and fines from the police. Additionally, significant research shows that the risk of being arrested does not do very much to reduce crime rates. I'd be curious to see if these new vision zero laws and arrests lead to any meaningful change in driver behavior. My guess is no. Consistent enforcement of distracted driving laws such as texting while driving would be more likely to increase safety on the road. The New York State Police are cracking down on that, but I guess that does not fit as well into Billy de Blasio's flashy campaigns.
  11. I'm seeing MTA supervisors checking Union Turnpike now. Buses should be out in a few hours
  12. Anyone pass by a subway station after 11 pm? I'm curious if they have closed off the turnstiles, because the SubwayTime tracker is showing a ton of trains arriving and departing. They do run OOS trains underground during shut downs (e.g. during the transit strike) to prevent the rails from corroding or something like that.
  13. Regardless of who is at fault, I feel bad for the injured passengers. I've rarely seen an MCI with that much damage
  14. It looks pretty bad... http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/12/17/nj-transit-bus-loaded-with-passengers-involved-in-accident-near-linden/
  15. I'm not saying people should stay on a bus with bedbugs, I'm saying you should hustle off the bus with the same vigor when there is a bomb scare or threat as well as when there are bedbugs!
  16. It's funny how much New Yorkers will put up with on buses and subways, but throw a few bedbugs in there and people go nuts. I've seen people take bomb scares 100 times less seriously than they do bed bug scares!
  17. Welcome back East New York! ALways look forward to your info! That's too bad about MTS. I was really looking forward to trying out those express coaches. I'm kind of surprised that MTS didn't invest in the production of even the 90 buses, since it sounded pretty likely that transit agencies would like the bus and put lots of order in after seeing those demo units.
  18. http://gawker.com/senator-holds-commuter-safety-presser-almost-gets-hit-1565073060/+orlove this is pretty funny. Good old Dick Blumenthal and Amtrak.
  19. This cop getting shot thing just goes to show...if you aren't a cop, it ain't worth arguing with a farebeater or you may just get killed.
  20. Wow, that's disappointing. Those express coaches looked real nice.
  21. Whatever happened with Millennium Transit? I was very excited when they released pictures of new buses, but I haven't heard anything about them since.
  22. My email got slammed last night with the subway delay notifications. I even got one for "debris on the platform" which I never heard of before. Sounds like it was a busy night for repair crews.
  23. What about the thing with RTO not having enough keys to pass out to the crews? Was that a rumor or also part of the problem?
  24. I avoided the (E)/(F) entirely the last 2 late nights and stuck with the QM5 instead. I think a lot of people had the same idea as the bus was much more full than it normally is at 11:30 pm and midnight
