  1. And yet on the flip side, it makes it easier (theoretically) for the police to patrol. No need to wait until the next stop for the police to switch cars.
  2. I feel this has its roots in the old 2-car married pair system. Quite frankly, I always felt that the claims of the benefit of having 2-car sets vs. 5-car sets were overblown. It might have worked best in the past when there were very clear morning and afternoon peaks coupled with quiet middays, but with the future of the work force being the hybrid WFH-in-person, the number of passengers in the peak will be reduced. The need for rearranging sets hasn't even been a thing in decades and it certainly won't be needed now for almost all services (with the exception of the night shuttles). The homeless/panhandler issue is something that people just love to raise. That's a city problem, it's not an inherently open-gangway problem. The gangways might make it a little easier, but doors or no doors, they'll will always go from car to car. Doors haven't stopped panhandlers in wheelchairs from trying to pass between cars by using those doors. But you know what doors have done? They have stopped the normal, average wheechair user from going between cars. Your average Joe in the wheelchair doesn't exactly feel like risking it.
  3. So I know where I made a mistake. 1575 has regular square-window doors. The car after it is the R11 with the round-window door. At 0:06, 1575's regular door is open, but the R11 is closed, which gives the illusion that the round-window door is 1575's. At 1:26, they're changing between cars. The blue interior of the car in the background belongs to the R11, and they are entering 1575. The R11 is indeed the car in the water scene.
  4. The 2 door types tripped me up to, because I hadn't realized it had 2 types. Yeah, the trains get painted every once in a while.
  5. The car in the video is R7A 1575. The first interior shot at around 0:06 is from the R10, but the door looks like it comes from a R16. When you pause at 0:41, you can see the number 1575 above the emergency brake and the poster. 1:26 and 2:03 looks like the same car. 1575 was involved in a wreck in 1946. It was then overhauled into a R10 prototype (which is why the inside looks like a R10 with a round window).
  6. Does anyone know where I can find a Master map of the neighborhood maps? Is there even one publicly available? I'm interested in seeing the exact locations of stations, but I don't feel like downloading 460+ pdfs of individual stations.
  7. This is a pretty good time to start reconsidering that AirTrain, especially with the troubles going on with the Governor. Who knows, maybe he bullied some of those guys to get the AirTrain done instead of looking for a bettter connection (hint, hint, if any politico is reading this).
  8. How old is the bus map? The 1995 NYCDOT shows the BxM3. Is there a link to it?

  10. So I'm on the at Broadway, and the entire Astoria line just lost power...

  15. Pretty interesting, ordinarily now would be the time to start riding those older Orions. I guess the fleet numbers will continue from 1985 to 2064 (80), then 2104 (40) and finally 2149 (45).
  16. Yes; Amtrak kept the part above 30th Street, while the southern section that went to Conrail and then CSX became the High Line. This was the 60th Street Yard; the photo shows the part between 65th Street and 70th Street. This was later redeveloped by a certain former Commander-In-Chief into Riverside South.
  17. This map from 1947 doesn't show a track going to Lexington Avenue. 99th Street Yard is on page 25. The aerial from 1924 doesn't show much either.
  18. New Flyer has won the contract with Bee-Line. Base order is for 66 XDE40, with options for 52 XDE40 and 10 XDE35. https://www.newflyer.com/content/2021/02/westchester-county-awards-new-flyer-a-contract-for-up-to-128-hybrid-electric-xcelsior-transit-buses/
  19. Bro, I remember how all you did was talk about how Italian you were. "Italy this, Italy that, I love Mussolini's architecture, my uncle's Italian".
  20. What, you think we live under a rock? We know there are racist Democrats. But the moment they don't get a pass, they complain about cancel culture. Again, you seem perfectly fine with white supremists who want to get rid of black guys like you and hispanics like me. Don't see you complaining about that, so long as you get pay less taxes.
  21. Well, according to our own VG8 here, that is completely fine and lovely because they do a lot of "hard work". He's just spent time on another thread telling me that he doesn't vote along party lines. So while an average American may not realize it, the non-average American isn't exactly a shoe in either.
  22. Neither can you. Everytime I, MHV, checkmate, or R10 even write about this, you got no problem bringing this shit up.
  23. Uh, you've been stereotyping, too. According to you, apparently every Progessive/Liberal/Democrat hates the working class and is secretly racist, even though the your love has actually defrauded the working class through his little GoFundMe campaigns. PS Trump is currently pretty racist. Haven't seen him once denounce the white supremicists that would love to a chance to hang minorities like you and me. And you're perfectly fine with that, as long as the green flows to you.
  24. Of course I vote progressive whenever possible.Voted for the progressive Nixon back in 2018, and for AOC and Bernie in the 2020 elections. Doesn't mean I like DBD. Then I did Obama, Clinton, and Biden, because there were no other big favorable choices. It would have been easier to vote Rep in the past, but now it's the party of the cringey dressup shamans, the pyramid schemers, and uber-religious pillow CEOs.
