  2. The (overpriced) Avalon Rockville Centre apartments right beside RVC have been open for a while now, but what was there beforehand?
  3. Who the hell programs the MTA's website? Note the top line. 4. I saw someone write "Ed Mangano sucks" on the back of an NG the last time I had to go to Hempstead. Last winter making the buses dirty sure didn't help.
  5. I heard earlier that trains were diverted onto 8th avenue from West 4th to somewhere midtown (59th street?). What was this?
  6. They do jack shet, from what I've seen. I've been on buses that were over 20 minutes late and the dispatcher and driver will wave like everything's peachy. NICE is extremely strict with its OTP and yet what does it amount to? All the shortcuts, beating lights, and cutting people off barely add up to anything. NICE doesn't care about anything anymore. Ridership drops by the day. At this point in 2010, I remember getting a seat on an afternoon N6 was a miracle. Nighttime N4s were packed and it was common for people to get flagged by no less than two buses. Last I checked, the whole "millenials don't care about cars" thing was a complete hock and there were plenty of teens driving around to get their licenses.
  7. There was a Yankees game yesterday but they're not playing until tomorrow. I wonder what's going on here.
  8. When NICE first started, there were quite a few friendly drivers. I don't think I'm wrong in assuming that a lot of them quit, though, because I'm getting the same "here for the paycheck only" attitude I got with a lot of personnel.
  9. NICE is fine... in extremely short bursts. And by "bursts," I mean "never."
  10. It would still take more than an hour to get anywhere. The expresses are only on a few select Queens routes and only run during the rush.
  11. How have I been here for five years?

I've been here for 7 and ask myself that very question.....

  12. No better way to beat traffic than getting on something that moves slower than traffic.
  13. It's the price you pay for living in (or near) the mother of all suburbs without a car.
  14. This is the first time I've heard of a problem at a non-loop terminal in a while.
  15. This almost sounds like someone tried to hop something subway-related and whiffed it:
  16. There's been a lot of road work on Merrick Road in Lynbrook both near the VS-Lynbrook border and the Lynbrook-RVC border. A sign posted near the Lynbrook DPW says the construction will start at ~11:00 PM and end at 5:00 AM - it started Monday and will go on until next Friday (19th). The N4 has been running fine so far but I have to wonder what will happen once lanes have to be closed. That section of Merrick Road has been beat up for over a decade and a half now.
  17. NICE keeps paper schedules for all routes at Hempstead and whatever routes pass by or terminate at LIRR stations.
  18. The number of the orange NGs with the front lifts far outnumber the old Orion Vs with the back lifts. You have a 90% chance of getting an NG or newer these days.
  19. Maybe a Queens resident can answer this. Around the time I signed up for this site, I used to ride my bike from my house out to Francis Lewis Boulevard in Springfield Gardens, right by Montefiore Cemetery. I haven't been out there in a long time, but I remember that FL merges with 121st Avenue. Going south to Merrick, when and why was that right turn lane blocked off? Google Street View shows me that it's still blocked and that there's grass growing through the pavement. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.68566,-73.734195,3a,75y,204.92h,55.03t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sW614mMoxWqf48D7yY3UZYg!2e0!6m1!1e1
  20. I got my license in September but since I don't have my own car, guess what I'm stuck on.... believe me, no one could make riding a bus here tolerable.
  21. NG 1756 (or 1758) was repainted recently, saw it running without ads on the N4 earlier.
  22. Main Line LIRR trains are filled with those pamphlets on the Ellison Avenue bridge replacement. I took a look at the obvious (that bridge looked like it could have fallen on any given day) but I noticed something off about the bus maps: The Hicksville one makes no mention of the N24 (which was extended to Hicksville in 2012), nor the N48/49, but mentions the N80 and N94. The Bethpage one shows the N23 stopping at the station. What a detour!
