  1. In the last picture, what are you using for the storage shed/shop? Oh, and be careful running those 142s; they are a poly nightmare and will kill your framerate quickly!
  2. I don't think the Cranberry tubes could handle three lines running on it. I'm going to assume you're responding to the problem at B'way-Lafayette and not the MannyB closure scenario. I would run the from Coney Island to Essex-Delancey. You have the option of laying up trains on the tracks northwards to 2 Av since no service will be there, and there is a double crossover south of Essex to provide switching moves. To alleviate the inevitable congestion at that terminal, I'd have alternate trains begin/end their run at Jay St. I do like your train idea. Where would its northern terminal be--Pacific? I know that at Whitehall the signal does not permit moves into the pocket track going northbound. Perhaps it could be a <W> like the <R> and run from Chambers to Coney?
  3. I had put down that trains would run from Jamaica Center to Roosevelt Av as local, with the providing the express run from 179 St to Roosevelt.
  4. You only have one train on Queens Blvd? That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I would have both the and run to Roosevelt Av/Jackson Heights, keeping the as an Express. You left out Astoria for service. I would run trains between 39 Av & Ditmars, with a free shuttle bus from 39 Av to Lex/59 St. I would have trains also run from Lex/53 to WTC. With the frequency of trains, plus the double X-over, I think it could handle both lines as a terminal. Plus you have the tubes being used as defacto layups. I'd also run the between TSQ & Grand Central, because lord knows the cannot handle all that passenger volume on its own. ------- Here's one: 14 St/Union Square station closed due to major overhaul work (let's say several tunnel ceilings collapsed or something). Minimum of at least a week closure, so no trains are running through the station on all five platforms, .
  5. Hmm...sounds like a complicated issue, but I would simply have the run in two sections: its normal route from 168-Euclid, and a second route replacing the . I had thought up a more complicated service, but it didn't seem plausible seeing as this is just a weekend shutdown. If it were for a week, month, or longer, then my original plan might have worked.
  6. I don't think it's considered BMT anymore, seeing as it's technically classified as an IND line (even in the 1976 signal diagrams I recently received). Dual contracts was to run joint IRT-BMT service (and it only lasted from 1913-28 IIRC, and there really wasn't any IRT service in the area of the Fulton St el for the BMT elevated to share with. However, the chaining for Fulton St from north of Grant to Lefferts is BMT-K, taken from the old Fulton St el. Also, fun little fact I picked up while looking through my books yesterday--it seems as though the Astoria line was classified as an IRT line until very recently (within the last 30 years). The signal diagrams show the "IRT Astoria line", and at the southern end of QBP, the BMT chaining ends and the IRT chaining (borrowed from the Flushing line) takes over. Very interesting IMO. Anyone know when the designation was changed to what it is today (I know that obviously it was after 76).
  7. They are not the type "mospeedboard", so they do not regulate speed at all. I couldn't get them to be manually changeable AND control the speed. Download some of the invisible speed signs on the DLS, and place those in front of my signs and you should be good.
  8. Yes, there is. You need to do a few things to make sure this works: Ensure that the train you're using has the capability to change its destination signs. Once this has been verified, while you're in surveyor you should click the "edit session rules" button, which in 09 & 10 looks like a funnel. Select "driver commands" and check the box next to "change destination sign". This command is built in since TC I believe. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I know it's built into 09 and 10). Once you've done that click "add" and select "DestSignTable". Once you've selected the rule to use in the session and have confirmed the selection, highlight the rule and hit "edit". A small window will appear and (this is a personal preference) uncheck the boxes that allow trackmarks and industries to be used as destinations. Click the link that says "add destinations from texture group". Another small window will pop up and if you have the texture libraries installed, they will show up, ready for you. Note that only the texture libraries for trains in your session will show up. So if you have all of Magicland's cars and textures downloaded in your game, and you're wondering why only the R46 textures show up on this list--it's because the R46 is the only train in your session. Be careful when doing this, if you have too many different texture libraries, then selecting the correct destination to change to while in driver mode can become cumbersome. Usually, I have my sessions only use two cars' textures (46 and 62). Once you have added and edited the above rules, save your session settings, and do a Quick Drive. Now, if all is done correctly, when you select "change destination sign" from the driver command menu, your list of destinations should show up. If you need any other troubleshooting help after following the above steps--ya know where to post! Hope it all works out! -A  P.S. As for automated announcements, I don't know if that can be done or not. Despite busting out killer content, there are tons of areas of this game that I know absolutely nothing about ---and adding automated announcements is one. However, I do vaguely remember reading something about triggers being able to be used to--well, trigger, certain sound files. Someone here should be able to help. Best to search the Auran forums and post your inquiry there.
  9. Not only that, but I don't necessarily need the entire NYC street grid to build the layout. I will make a disclaimer right off the bat, barring Trainz's limitations, some portions of the system might have to be tweaked to fit everything in (CI Yards & Shops comes to mind ). But with the single-line signal diagrams coming in at the beginning of next week, from an operations standpoint, everything will be pretty darn accurate. Redevelopment of the route will start in a few weeks after the first several waves of foam get out of my system from combing through these three books like a kid in a candy store -A
  10. I was able to backdate my 2010 routes to 2009 successfully with no errors--so you 2009 folks are in luck---my NYCTA Subway route will be available for that version! -A
  11. You're welcome! Those videos were the -ish! Also, if you have time, could you PM me? I have a question that hopefully you could help with!

  12. I'm taking a week or two off from NYCTA content/route building to focus on BART. Plus, I'm awaiting three books worth of single-line signal diagrams for the entire NYCTA subway system to arrive in the mail, so until then, I won't resume the project. I'm not at liberty to say who or where I found these books, but it's the culmination of a two year search and I couldn't be happier! Also, I read a thread somewhere on the Auran boards that answers the questions for those of you who have been asking about making my 2010 route available in 2009---the scripting and such of 2010 is that so you cannot back-date to 2009. I know they're similar, but most of the aspects of a basic 2010 route are only available for that version of the game. I've tried backdating several times for you guys, and I still get the same "error no map selected" message when trying to load it. So, when I get the signal diagrams, I may consider re-doing the entire layout in TS2009, so that you guys can enjoy it as well. Unfortunately, I do not feel like producing the full route for any version prior to 2009, so if you have TC 1 & 2, you won't be able to play the route. Like I've said prior, ALL of the content I'm creating is for 04 and above--just not the physical route itself. It was a sacrifice I had to make, and since 2006 is buggy and doesn't work on either of my machines, I'm going with 09 and above--I hope you all understand. But, if you have 04/06/TC, use my content and impress me with your creations! Now, I'm going to eagerly await the mailman and maybe bust out some content! -A
  13. I think a better method would be to have trains end at Rector, and send the to Wall Street. There are switches south of the station to handle turn backs. Everything else? I give up. I agree with the poster before me--come back to reality. Also--all this bomb/terrorist talk is getting a little . Natural stuff like cracks, hurricanes and stuff are okay--tsunamis seem a bit out there. --- Anyway, let's give this one a shot: 96 St/Broadway switches are out of service for major overhaul, which doesn't allow the to run up the Lenox line to the Bronx.
  14. @IRTBronxExpress: He means the lower-level of Lex-59 on the to Times Square---so it does make sense. When I first read it, I thought he meant Lexington Av trains as well. Anyway, I would run shuttle trains between Ditmars and QBP, and those wishing to get to 42 St directly can take the . On the southern end, I would end trains at 34 St/Herald Square, and suspend service in Manhattan. would have to run via tunnel and via Bridge. This is only because there isn't enough capacity to terminate all three Broadway lines in midtown. The would end at Pacific-Atlantic, with transfers available for the . For the affected area, passengers can use a shuttle bus between Times Square and 59 St-Lex.
  15. This wouldn't work because you have the ( also running on 6 Avenue, and if you terminate trains at 42 St, you're going to encounter severe crowding with trains blocking northbound traffic to wrong-rail out of the station to go back southbound. Not only that, but this would assume that the would run over the north side of the Manhattan Bridge--also overcrowding. I know you said you were foaming, but I had to throw my two cents in! P.S. I think Casey Stengel took the cake on the re-routes. I've got nothing left for that! ----- A freakishly strong hurricane/storm has knocked out the el tracks between Chauncey St & Alabama Av on the , has flooded the portal to the , and has destroyed the platforms at Broadway Junction making this station impassable for a few months for reconstruction.
  16. Due to several severe cracks and the threat of intense flooding, the 53 St tunnels are closed for construction for a minimum of a month.
  17. Here is a tutorial for replacing Magicland's rollsigns with my own. Note that this method can be used for any custom rollsigns you wish to use on any of his cars, since the car folders and texture folders are laid out the same way. Read through these steps carefully at least once before attempting to replace--as with all things in CM & Trainz, if you breeze through too quickly, you're likely to make an easy-to-miss mistake and cause yourself headaches for hours. 1) Open CM/CMP and select the texture folders from both Magicland and myself. As an example, we'll be referencing the R62 textures. 2) Select "open for edit", and then "edit in explorer". The asset folders should show up in your desktop tray, ready to be tinkered with. 3) In Magicland's texture folder, open up the config file and delete the everything from "textures" to just before "thumbnails". Also delete everything in the asset folder EXCEPT for the config file. 4) Now, open up my textures' asset folder, and copy/paste everything except the config file into Magicland's folder. 5) Open up my config file and copy everything from "textures" to just before "thumbnails" and paste this into Magicland's config. Input this right under "username". If done correctly, the pasted section should end right above "thumbnails". 6) SAVE both config files, close the asset folders and commit in CM/CMP. If done correctly, the textures will now be changed accordingly. One quick way to verify this in Trainz is to select one of Magicland's train cars, and hit the ? button. My customized list of destinations should show up. If not--go back and look at the steps again. This is why I do not recommend deleting my assets upon replacing the textures--it can come in handy if there are any mistakes. This can be done for my modified R32-62 textures as well as any of his other car textures. Since I do not really use anything prior to the R32 on my route, I left those out of my reskinning, plus I was still a hardcore newb when I did these. I am in the process of redoing my modifications to make them blend in better with the cars--plus my R62 destinations are a little bit off center. Hope that helps! -A
  18. Here is the current progress map--Brighton is pretty much finished, Fulton St line is done (the remaining portion is the Pitkin/Liberty St line), and Flushing and Jamaica are getting close to the end. Because of measurement anomalies in my route, I am rebuilding all of Downtown Brooklyn and the 4 Av line, mainly because my line doesn't meet up with the at East NY like it's supposed to. It shouldn't be that bad to be honest. Also, replacing the EL stations on my route with my own newly created ones--so far only Flushing needs them, as I completed Jamaica yesterday. Lastly, is anyone else getting an error with Jeff Morris updated 'bridge01' spline (aka the Manhattan Bridge). I got his 'bridge02' update (WillyB) just fine, but the MannyB is having an ! in CM. These are place-holders until I finish my WillyB and ExpressLine3Train finishes his Manhattan Bridge. 25 October Progress Map: -A
  19. Just some eye candy of the recently completed NYCTA EL stations: 1T and 2T are on the top row, 3T on the middle, and 4T on the bottom. I know the ends look a little short, I'm in the process of lengthening them from 5m to 10m long as we speak! Enjoy! -A  P.S. Like everything else, gotta test it on my route--so far no kinks, so no definite release date yet, BUT---I will promise that you will not have to wait six months like with the subway stations. I'm starting to get a hang of this station building stuff B)
  20. Just started work on elevated stations to use for my NYCTA route. BStyles has been away for awhile, so I've taken it upon myself to build these stations with textures he has given me. The following is a list of the stations going to be made. Just to let everyone know, the Brighton line is the only line that will have "customized" elevated stations. The rest of the el lines will use this package of stations, but there will be different objects (exits, etc) that you can swap in and out for a different look. I just felt it was too much to model several el stations each for Astoria, Flushing, West End, Culver, Pelham, Jerome, Broadway Bronx, Jamaica, Myrtle, Rockaways, Livonia, etc etc. Too much work, and who wants to sift through 30+ stations when something under a dozen will do? So here's the list: 1 Track El 2T Island/2T Side/2T Double Side (for the terminals on the ) 3T Island/3T Side/3T Island 2--for Mets/Willets Point 4T Island/4T Side--for 111 St. Objects (so far): Platform Exit (at the ends, seen on the line) Mid-Platform Exit New Subway Maps New Exit signs with a down arrow The garbage cans and benches from the subway set can be used here. Any suggestions/comments are welcome. -A
  21. I lowered the poly count on my layout because for some reason if you have a lot of EL tracks and stuff it severely lags. I have to ask BStyles if that's a problem with my computer or the assets themselves. Is anyone else having a lag issue when using lots of his el pieces?
  22. Brighton Line has been rebuilt and backed up several times over. It is now complete to Ocean Pkwy, with the only two stops left being West 8 St (modeled and imported, just not put on the layout yet), and Coney Island. Besides the 42 St and the late night from 148 St to Times Square, I am happy to announce that the ( in its full non-rush hour route is completed! Now, the passengers in my Trainz world can ride the full ( from 145 St to Brighton Beach! Below are some screenshots of Brighton Beach, Ocean Pkwy & Prospect Park. Because he is a good friend, and since I was late on getting this completed before he left us here in Phoenix, I decided to re-create two iconic Zach Summer photographs below, including his 2011 cover for Tracks of the NYC Subway. entering Brighton Beach Zach's winning photo for the cover of 2011 Tracks of the NYC Subway at Ocean Pkwy with a and an !! laid up on the relay tracks Some Prospect Park love, with an R46 , and an R32 Shuttle! Enjoy! -A  P.S. When going to CI, right now the only thing I'll be laying is the trackwork. The next line to be done are the to 86 St and the to Coney Island.
  23. Thanks for the compliments. I'm not sure what's up with the CDP file. I deleted it and uploaded a new one just now--let me know how it works. NYCTA Signals 10-17-11 -A
