  1. It's not about turning only. What if a train gets delayed on its way to the terminal? Or what if the train gets delayed causing the one behind it to bunch? High frequencies are nice but not always practical which is why one should avoid too high frequencies at all costs, except when it's BRT and the terminals are big enough to not get in the way of other lines. Which is also the reason not every current terminal in NYC is used at full capacity. The new SF, for example, turned (before Sandy ruined the fun) only 21 TPH while the max is 24 TPH. And the is no under-used line by any means so...
  2. Huh? But the connection once existed and there's still room for it on Franklin Ave. So I don't see why it's impossible...
  3. Wallyhorse, do you wanna get this thread locked or what? Previous threads where the '© to Lefferts' got discussed got locked too, you know... What also could work is rebuilding the Fulton St line. That way the Franklin Ave shuttle can be exterminated and the line would continue like it used to in the past. It would help Fulton St passengers with an extra connection.
  4. @Brett: The LIB announcements are still there on some buses. Btw, congrats on your NICE Instagram featuring @Burrstone: Transdev *will* kick in money *if* NICE asks them for extra money.
  5. 1) Plus there are only a handful of VII's not wrapped. It's mostly the V's that run unwrapped (some have a little logo near the driver's window though) and they're gonna be replaced within a few years anyway. Also, while we're at it: they still have "Thank your for riding Long Island Bus" automatic announcements at terminals lol. But I'm guessing that'll be replaced once Clever Devices goes live Q4 2014
  6. Except for the current in use diamonds, the doesn t want to use diamonds anymore so its gonna be the anyway. (and secretly, I like the letter W better)
  7. doesn t need increased frequencies, esp. the Lefferts branch but Rockaway would also be overserved with increased frequencies. Rockaway stations (except for two) are among the lowest used stations in the whole system.
  8. Well, the headway can be a little bit lower than 2 minutes once CBTC is set up but that s gonna take years. And even then, the <2 minutes headway is only under perfect conditions. One train with a delay and everything gets delayed.
  9. For the from Marcy Ave express to work you'd have to build an island platform at Marcy Ave, else you're gonna screw up local service (esp. when there are delays). But even so, I think a express will end up the same usage and fate as the .
  10. I forgot about the stripping down. Yeah, of course they could order barebones buses. It's very common around the world to either go barebones or (almost) full-fletched so that won't be any different in and around NYC.
  11. It doesn't really matter what offer there's gonna be. If NICE asks Transdev for some extra investment for buses, there's gonna be more money anyway. Hopefully they'll choose Xcelsiors, New Flyer's Xcelsiors are among my top 5 favorite buses! When's the bid gonna be up anyway? I mean: I'm guessing none of you don't have an exact date but some estimation?
  12. Are you forgetting that NICE has a successfull company behind them called Transdev? Transdev does invest in NICE and they can always ask Transdev for some extra investment. And as someone who occasionally works with Transdev, I can assure that will happen. So maybe they will go for New Flyers.
  13. Exactly. The upper level of DeKalb *is* at the same level as the IRT tracks at Nevins, at least that s what I know based on famous (at least on this forums) website of subway historicus Brennan: http://www.columbia.edu/~brennan/abandoned/myrtle.html (the part about the IRT connection is in the Contruction and Operation section of the page) Given the fact that his info is usually correct and outside sources also state it, I'm calling it the truth. But maybe someone even more experienced could tell us if it's true? (at least that they're on the same level)
  14. But Oyster Bay doesn't have any bus service whereas the n17 does so that's apples to oranges.
  15. I totally agree with you, but just for the facts: this particular thing you just said is actually not fantasy of him. In fact, more than a century ago (around 1908 IIRC) they made room in DeKalb Ave for a future connection to the IRT. The only reason it didn't happen was because the RTB didn't want to give the line to the IRT (which would've happened if the connection was really made). "At De Kalb Ave, options were left open for a connection to the first subway run by the IRT, even though the Rapid Transit Board had decided against it because building it would force giving the new subway to the IRT. The IRT main track level is near the surface, at the level of the mezzanine of De Kalb Ave station." The room for a future connection is still there today (of course, it runs up to a wall just outside of the station) beyond the abandoned platforms. So yes, it's fantasy from Wallyhorse and yes it's unfeasible so, again: I totally agree with you. But just for the record, this one's actually based on a real idea (if the connection was really made, trains could run up to Harlem via the IRT).
  16. Well that's funny. Normally LIRR craps out and MNRR continues on. Which is one of the reasons LIRR gets trashed so much when it comes to stuff like this. But this time around, it seems like LIRR did a fairly good job.
  17. Oh, so there are more stops nearby, like, walking distance? If that's really the case, then ignore my previous post Well, it's not like that in all of Nassau County. I've seen on-board videos of NICE in Nassau County (so not the Queens part) where there's a bus stop every block. If you live in b/w them you can choose whichever one you wanna walk to lol. And even then it's like a 2 min walk max.
  18. The n17 could really use more stops b/w Mercy MC and Rockville Centre. It's a beautiful route and I would die to live there but seeing the many miles b/w the stops... wow, I'd need a car to drive to the next bus stop.
  19. Imagine what NYC would look like if most or all of Wallyhorse's proposals, which he made over the years up till now, were implemented...
  20. Just a heads-up: there are a few detours, namely on the n27 (no Roslyn LIRR), n25/n26 and n23. But also: #NICEALERT Please expect systemwide delays of 30-40min due to weather conditions
  21. Exactly. And even nowadays that's not perfected either. Look at the (5)'s different terminals... and I don't mean E180, I mean either Dyre Ave or New Lots. I know why it's necessary but from a simplistic POV it still has ways to go.
  22. Oh, in case anyone missed it, our Pine w/ Power was featured on NICE's Instagram today: Roosevelt Field on a snowy Sunday night - http://instagram.com/p/kOIt2ulMc7/# Awesome shot, PP!
