  1. I don't get one thing, why everyone is fantasizing about negative aspects of "what if?" As only bad things can happen? How about some positive mental attitude?! And some of the "what ifs" don't even make sense...
  2. Hello everybody Well, lets say I am new to photography, still learning about basics and everything. But one can teach himself only limited amount of things, thus is why I am here. I have been using regular point and shoot camera and I believe this is a limiting factor for a better photography. Pictures come out grainy and smudgy while railfanning, using flash isn't always possible, especially since flash is not permitted on NYCT property. I believe I need to upgrade my camera and I thought of DSLR cameras. Railfans with experince and photo pros will you help me with this dilema? Do I need to get DSLR or should I settle for modern point-and-shoot? Is the image quality worth the extra money? If so which ones would you recommend. Thanks in advance P.S. My current camera is Canon SD1100 IS
  3. Hello everyone Well for intro, I am new to the field of photography and still learning how to take good pictures and figuring out the camera. I noticed that my camera, Canon Powershot SD1100 IS doesn't take acceptable photos without flash or of any moving subject in low light, even with flash. The photos turn out smudgy and grainy, due to high ISO. I have been thinking about getting a new camera, since I love occasionally to railfan, do I need more advanced camera, like DSLRs or just better point and shoot? Is the difference between two in image quality worth the extra money? Are entry level DSLRs any good, if so which ones? I would like to hear your opinions. Thanks for input in advance.

  5. Number one song to listen on a train (IMO), it's so rhythmic to the moving train, it's unbelievable.

  7. Radar gun, now that is something new (to me). I also realized that trains were slow due to presence of track and signal maintainers along the route. Is it true that there is less track maintenance during rush hours then during regular service? About 9:56 run, by what time will it reach 59th St? Thanks

  9. I hope you would operate the ( more often, so far most of T.Os weren't that great speedwise. Hopefully I'll catch the right ( sometime soon, afterall it is my home route.

  11. Unfortunately no, there are no extra "express" tracks and there were never any plans to have them. If you mean adding express tracks by building some, then you can forget about it, it will never happen under any circumstances. A healthy read
  12. What a terrible morning commute was today. First 6th avenue, we were crawling between W4 and 47/50 sts, but at least moving. Then came 8th avenue at CPW, which got the crown. It took no more and no less than 30 minutes to get from Columbus circle to 135th. Apart from terrible signaling, we almost tripped and T.O. had to climb down and check. Still made it on time, time managemet FTW.
  13. This whole thing looks spooky to me, but not surprising. The media probably couldn't get enough coverage on the shooting to have it published or maybe there is police involved. Either way I wasn't able to find anything relevant on the internet about the incident.
  14. Same for me BTW did anyone else see R68A with blue seat? Last time it was coupled with lead car 5058.
  15. Most likely just as fast, counting if tunnel doesn't start to deteriorate at faster rate, because the dimensions are almost the same and cars are lighter. datasheets of R62/a and R142/a http://images.nycsubway.org/cars/datasheet-r142.jpg http://images.nycsubway.org/cars/datasheet-r142a.jpg http://images.nycsubway.org/cars/datasheet-r62a.jpg http://images.nycsubway.org/cars/datasheet-r62.jpg
  16. I would love to hear one day a Conductor say "Please stand clear, the doors are closing. Please hold on." just like on JFK Airtrain. It would make my day.
  17. Well I didn't even notice "wet pain", until now. I was more focused on R68 on the part.
  18. I would like to see one of those someday. pic is not mine.
  19. Another silly question, are there any timers been recently installed on Brighton line, esp. approaching Kings Hwy, Atlantic Av and leaving De-Kalb Av? P.S. Anyone else notices shaky ride on Manhattan bound ((Q)trains leaving Prospect Park.
  20. I am wondering, what is there going on, on 14th and 23rd streets that makes Jamaica bound skip those stations. Jamaica-bound trains skip 14 St and 23 St Nights, 11 PM to 5 AM, Tue to Fri, Jul 5 - 8 It's been like that for couple or more weeks, whats going on?
  21. Don't mean to interrupt but that is an oversimplification, i constantly use and there are at least 3-5 sets always with correct terminals, not everyday, but it's not 95% either. I agree though that it is annoying especially when they are different in the same car.
