Blue Stripe on Subway Cars

Why did the MTA remove their signature "blue stripe" from subway cars. I think that it looked great on the R44's / 46's originally.

Because the blue stripe was rusting.So thats why MTA took off the blue stripe on the R44/R46.

Oh okay, wish they would have just repainted it. But I guess it was more cost effective this way. Thanks

I think the blue stripe was made of carbon steel, which is why they removed it during GOH.

It was removed in the R46 and painted over in the R44.

I hear ya man. But cost and possibly the MTA thinking its looks better without it did it for the blue stripe.
