Cion Posted February 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2011 Hey guys, I've been working on this for about a week now. I don't have a release date yet, and don't plan on giving one until I feel it's pretty much done and I will let it go. I will be bringing NYCTA engines, rolling stock buildings etc to MSTS. It's time we shed more light on the best simulator STILL in the game. Below are photos of NYCTA R40 Slant. It's the TO's side, also you'll see photos of the truck. This model is in the working. More updates to come. http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/TOside.jpg http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/truck1.jpg http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/truck2.jpg

TrainFanatic Posted February 20, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2011 Looks pretty good! What program did you use?
Cion Posted February 21, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted February 21, 2011 Thanks a lot! Yeah i really enjoyed doing those trucks. Im a fanatic for detail so it took a lot for me to stop adding to It for the sake of it having to load in peoples PC's and not bogg down frame rate. I may also sacrifice the actual interior view for greater exterior detail. I'm sorry, but I never cared for any other sim other than MSTS, and there's SUCH a shortage of inner city, passenger, subway, MOW equipment that isn't and hasn't been made for MSTS. I plan on bringing these things to MSTS. Besides, from my understanding Trainz already has a host of subway cars etc that MSTS doesnt have...this is why so many of us city guys made the switch to Trainz...IMO. So, all my builds will be for that MSTS. I use TSM.
Cion Posted February 21, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted February 21, 2011 What's up guys! Ok I basically finished the front. I made the pantagraph gates and chains, I just have to make the small gates on the sides of the pantagraph gates to connect to the train. I also added a truck to the right front end of the train. Today I will finish the pantagraph gate and the trucks. If time permits I'll get to the under body. More updates to come! Thanks for checking guys! http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r401.jpg http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r402.jpg

I choose Trainz over MSTS since its more OPEN and easier to make a route. Also Trainz can load & unload passengers as well change rollsigns. Strain Posted February 21, 2011 Share #7 Posted February 21, 2011 Yes you can but its a long long proses. Read this http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?296497-Silverliner that should help.

I choose Trainz over MSTS since its more OPEN and easier to make a route. Also Trainz can load & unload passengers as well change rollsigns. I will see what I can do since the model is still in basic model form. Once it's complete, I will see about converting it into two versions. I cant agree with Trainz being more open than MSTS, however you're right about easy route making...something that could give Trainz an advantage. Trainz is ok, but just too "model train" like IMO. FYI I own and tried just about every simulator except Rail Works. I own it, but my PC was built in 2000 and my video card can not handle it. Either way, hope yall like the train!

Cion Posted February 23, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted February 23, 2011 Ok guys, I'm basically finished. I've added the rest of the gates, chains, trucks and under body. I didn't add too much detail when doing the under body, made it pretty basic...which is fine. You can also see the back of this R40 for the first time, and see NO detail at all. I will leave the back for complete texture. Soooo, now comes the harder parts, I'm going to go over each part, tweek it, name it etc. I'm also going to try out some photo textures on spots to see how it looks. After I'm satisfied and feel all parts are good, also it's scaled as perfect as I can get it, I'll do a separate model (less detailed) and began the process of getting both into MSTS. Once everything is going in correctly, I will past it off to some great guys at Trainsim.com to help me get it to you guys with the proper physics etc. So, depending on my trial and error and the schedules of the fine people to assist me after I'm done, this R40 Slant should be to you guys soon. Below are the complete modeled photos. All comments welcome! http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r40-fin-1.jpg http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r40-fin-2.jpg http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r40-fin-3.jpg http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r40-fin-4.jpg

Cion Posted February 24, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted February 24, 2011 Yes I did.But wouldn't it be easier for 2 versions instead of making it for a different engine then converting it. You cant convert MSTS files into Trainz files, however, it's a raw model right now and I'm going to convert it into a file for MSTS. With that being done I'll still have the raw files in which I'll look into seeing if the program I made it with makes files for Trainz. If so, you guys will have the R40 Slant also. Trust me MSTS stuff can be converted in Trainz.A lot of European items for Trainz is from MSTS and I believe the 1st train conversion was the F59phi from MSTS to Trainz but it had to be retextured and needed a new set of trucks. Cion Posted February 24, 2011 Author Share #17 Posted February 24, 2011 Tweaked the hood a bit, and now looks much better. I'm also starting the T/O, C/R cab and interior. 2 train master I didn't know they could be. From my knowledge shape files from MSTS can't be converted. Either or, we will see what happens. http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r40-fin-5.jpg
Cion Posted February 26, 2011 Author Share #18 Posted February 26, 2011 Ok guys, I have been working on the interior view from the exterior and I nearly complete. I'm not adding much detail, though the poll work is enough polys within itself. This is another reason I didn't want to add this, however, I'll have to try and make this work...add here cut there...anyway, just wanted to show you guys what's going on. Next up I will begin to texture the model. You guys might not get an update with texture for a while because I have to gather and take photos that I will use. So, I'll have to make my way to the Transit Museum to take shots of the R40 Slant, and get a cab view. Here are the interior shots. Hope you like them. http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r40-fin-8.jpg http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r40-fin-7.jpg http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/r40-fin-6.jpg

Cion Posted March 22, 2011 Author Share #21 Posted March 22, 2011 This project is still in full swing. I had to stop texturing and go back into the model to redesign and remove some things. Everything is still moving full speed ahead, just a quick update.
Cion Posted March 28, 2011 Author Share #22 Posted March 28, 2011 Update - 3/28 - What's up guys. Just wanted to show a screen of the R40 in Shape Viewer. I'm still redesigning some parts to remove excess polys, however, the trains detail will not suffer a bit. I should be done remodeling in a week or so, then on to the textures. http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n573/trainzone/R40_Shape_V.jpg
