mtattrain Posted January 24, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2013 As per Subchat and the New Flyer website itself: http://www.subchat.com/buschat/read.asp?Id=271587 The company is called "Marcopolo..." EDIT: Mods, add "shares" too the end of this post...
Eric B Posted January 24, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 24, 2013 Weren't they conected with Dina/Viaggio (who got bought out, and ended up in the same family as MCI for awhile?) I remember seeing all thre names on those MCI-like coaches I would occasionally see in the 90's.
Turbo19 Posted January 24, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 24, 2013 Isn't Marcopolo only buying shares? I have an article which I won't quote due to length, If anyone would be interested in reading, click the link. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/brazilian-bus-firm-loads-up-stake-in-new-flyer-industries/article7716338/ Also a direct link to Marcopolo's webpage. http://www.marcopolo.com.br/website/2011/marcopolo/pt And prodct selection: Rodoviário G7 = Motorcoaches Intermunicipais = Intermunicipals (transit coaches) Urbanos = Transit Buses Micros = Mid Sized Buses

Turbo19 Posted January 24, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 24, 2013 Don't think this is a good thing. It's like Chrysler and Fiat. I don't see it like that, though it is very odd. Also, actually check out their products. Most don't seem like they'd fair well here. Main observation, interior é apertado I mean the interior is cramped. If there isn't any space for you guys on a LFS, then a "Torino" or "Viale" would be pure hell to you.
error46146 Posted January 24, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 24, 2013 As long as New Flyer's don't start looking like their buses.... I do not like the way those MARCO POLO buses look...

RailBus63 Posted January 25, 2013 Share #8 Posted January 25, 2013 As long as New Flyer shells dont start coming from Brazil. Unlikely - building the shells in Manitoba helps New Flyer meet Canadian content rules.
theaveragejoe Posted January 25, 2013 Share #9 Posted January 25, 2013 Unlikely - building the shells in Manitoba helps New Flyer meet Canadian content rules. True but I could see them wanting to farm out some work to lower cost Brazil.
RookiePhenom Posted January 25, 2013 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2013 I personally liked those Marcopolo's, but only based on looks. I've heard (and witnessed) a lot of problems with the engine and the handling when they were in Chicago.
RailBus63 Posted January 26, 2013 Share #11 Posted January 26, 2013 True but I could see them wanting to farm out some work to lower cost Brazil. Perhaps, but it would likely be very limited. New Flyer and Nova have to maintain a certain percentage of content that is Canadian and a percentage that is U.S.
