As MTA want's to immediately replace the oldest of the Orion V CNG buses, the next CNG order is now officially on the horizon. The only 2 qualified builders for the MTA at this point in time are New Flyer, and NovaBus. It has been reported directly to me that MTA has been secretly evaluating the CNG platforms of both manufactures from a distance. The verdict. New Flyer XN40. Pending numbers: 673-800 Now hold on to your stanchions, and don't get too exited all you bus buffs, and New Flyer employees. This procurement will be funded by the feds, so anything can happen. But let me assure you, there is a 90% chance that bus 673 will be a 2015 New Flyer Xcelsior XN40. Just wait on it! Source: Unidentified MTA brass. The TA has been evaluating them, but as of right now there are no plans to purchase any in the near future. Gleason and West Farms will have an all New Flyer standard fleet within the next 2 years, and new buses wont be needed until at least 2024-2026, which would be the soonest we would see CNG artics.
