R62A 1991 2 Posted October 30, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 30, 2008 Stick with rollsigns, but switch back to the original ones from 1986, which are exactly like the R62A ones. They don't have enough info on them at the moment IMO.
Luis1985 1 Posted October 30, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted October 30, 2008 that is so true. i hate those roll signs the R68/R68A has. and if u think about it, i remember when the letter was a little smaller on the colored circle. if u look at the or the ( or the , the letter is much bigger than the shape itself. Brighton Local 703 Posted October 30, 2008 Share #6 Posted October 30, 2008 Rollsigns all the way, and I love the new style letters and readings.
Radioguy 2 Posted October 31, 2008 Share #7 Posted October 31, 2008 I hate to be the sole dissenter, but I'm for digital displays. If money were not an object, I'd have no problem with full color LCDs that diplayed the classic rollsigns.

My opinion is, at the very least, overhaul the R62/68s to give them digital signs on the sides of cars. Leave the front/back rollsign if you want. error46146 1,007 Posted November 2, 2008 Share #11 Posted November 2, 2008 na i'd stick with roll signs the R46 has the digital signs, and we all know what a disaster those are..
R62A 1991 2 Posted November 2, 2008 Share #12 Posted November 2, 2008 na i'd stick with roll signs the R46 has the digital signs, and we all know what a disaster those are.. I'd want to stick with the rollsigns, but if they were to use LEDs, then I'd say replace them. Definitely don't want LCDs.
INDman 414 Posted November 2, 2008 Share #13 Posted November 2, 2008 I think there are why too many important things for the (NYCT) to spend money on the retrofitting R68/As with new signs. Right now the rollsigns work fine although having them light up would not be a bad idea.

Eric B 1,073 Posted November 7, 2008 Share #15 Posted November 7, 2008 I say one of these: http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20081030/160452/ Makes for a digital rollsign!
Radioguy 2 Posted November 7, 2008 Share #16 Posted November 7, 2008 I like those. They're very much like a heads up display. The problem, is with vandalism. At this stage in development, they would have to be enclosed in some double-paned design to be deployed on subway cars.
