Which Subway line would you bring back?

Maybe the <RR> (diamond brown R).  Reopening that Montague-Nassau connection and providing reinforcement for 4th ave local during peak times.

And for a real stretch, the (NX) although maybe it could also be a "beach" service besides rush hours.

Actually, I have numerous times proposed making what before it ended in 1987 was the "Brown (R)"/<RR> either the (Z) as part of a 24/7 line with the (J) where save for a handful of (J) trains that would end at/start from Broad Street in rush hours, BOTH the (J) (southbound) and (Z) (northbound) ending at Chambers with it set up so the opposite train is waiting for the terminating train at Chambers to pick up passengers (and increase service overall on 4th Avenue, with this (Z) replacing the (R) shuttle entirely in the overnights).  More recently, I have proposed simply making the (R) brown and moving it to Nassau with it terminating at Chambers or Essex (extended overnights and weekends to Metropolitan Avenue and with yard runs ending/beginning at Broadway Junction).

It's not worth it honestly, if you de-interline the whole subway system there wouldn't be the need to bring back a subway line. Instead, you may find yourself removing certain lines that cause bottlenecks in the system such as the N line with the 59 St tubes.

Sure as hell not the (brownM).

This version of the old (brownM) would be if the (R) were moved permanently to Nassau and only be used on weekends and overnights in place of the current (M) shuttles that are run during those hours and run as an extension from Chambers or Essex to Metropolitan.   This "Brown (R)" (formerly <RR>) would terminate at Chambers with some trains extended to Essex otherwise and make the (R) more efficient on 4th Avenue in Brooklyn.
