  1. NEXT: all BMT lines in Brooklyn are unusable south of Atlantic Av. Atlantic Av station can be used. RULES: no trains can exit service to go to yards located in unusable areas, which means that some routes cannot be suspended/have their TPH reduced. The yards can still be used for storage; trains just can't access them.
  2. @ DJ Hammers, the train would appear to be going 43 MPH. About 40 MPH for the train. Hey, does anybody else have a guess for my speed quiz above?
  3. Okay, here's a little speed quiz for you guys: Both of these trains are passing the same station going in the same direction. Which one is going faster:
  4. some trains run local in Manhattan Woodlawn - 51 St, local (uses switches north of Grand Central), some trains can terminate at 149 St-Grand Concourse via 7 Av express Pelham Bay Park - 51 St, some trains can terminate at 3 Av-138 St Flushing - Hunters Point Av Jamaica Center-bound trains run express from Canal St to 59 St some trains run via 8 Av local, the other trains run via 6 Av local runs in two sections; Coney Island - 57 St/7 Av, Astoria-Ditmars Blvd - Lexington Av/59 St terminates at 57 St/7 Av runs via 63 St Are you thinking about 168 St? That ain't happening .
  5. runs in two sections; 207 St - 59 St (local), Far Rockaway/Lefferts Blvd - High St, (Manhattan-bound riders are encouraged to transfer to the at Jay St-MetroTech.) Euclid Av - High St Jamaica Center - Lexington Av/53 St suspended runs in two sections; 205 St - 59 St-Columbus Circle, Coney Island - 57 St/7 Av via Broadway Express (Wallyhorse had a good idea!) runs in two sections; Coney Island - Delancey St, Jamaica-179 St - Lexington Av/63 St Metropolitan Av - Chambers St runs via tunnel to provide riders with more service at Jay St-MetroTech some trains are re-signed as trains in Queens (to allow for more service through Manhattan with the 6 and 8 Av lines unusable)
  6. . And I try to find somewhere in the middle...It's difficult sometimes when you're a railfan just trying to sit back and enjoy the ride. Kind of off-topic, but I'll never forget this post by TwoTimer:
  7. Ahhh, now I think I know why my was stuck between Atlantic Av and Nevins...
  8. Can you tell me how fast an R68 can go n/b from 36 St to Atlantic Av? I know the R160s can hit 50. And how fast are the timers coming into Atlantic? Any info would be appreciated.
  9. At first I thought you were serious ! Anyway, Gorgor, let's not take this too far. I remember where this thread's been before... Okay, here's what I'd do: run via tunnel, runs local in Brooklyn terminates at 2 Av station runs in two sections; 205 St - 2 Av , Coney Island - Atlantic Av Look, I don't think either of us got very upset.
  10. This is the "random thoughts" thread. Shouldn't people feel free to talk about being fans of TV shows?
  11. Really? When trains suddenly and unexpectedly get sent to places where they never normally go, I think that people have the right to be confused. No, it doesn't. "Knowing your alternate routes" is not going to teach you why an train would randomly show up in Brooklyn, or where it's headed.
  12. My replies to Brooklyn's post in red: Anyway, folks, I think the solution might be to re-sign trains in Queens as trains, and send them through the 60 St tube down Broadway. Some can terminate at Whitehall St.
  13. Oh, gee...Here we go again...Do you actually think that people at stations are going to get on an train that randomly shows up? They're going to try to wait for the , (which brilliantly runs via the line), and they'll never get to Manhattan. What makes you think that Jamaica Center riders want to take the , which doesn't go where they're going? Listen, Wallyhorse. Once again, it isn't just about sending trains to every station. It's about sending trains that riders RECOGNIZE. Can you expect a Culver line rider to understand where a re-routed train goes? I really don't think so. You can send the to Far Rockaway for example and say, "Oh, this is great! Far Rockaway riders now have service!" But they won't have any idea what a train is doing at Far Rockaway, and won't get on it.
  14. @ Mysterious2train -- it would appear to be a power-related problem: EDIT: alright, problem fixed:
  15. THANK YOU! I don't even like My Little Pony but I'm still mad about how people are reacting so negatively to the show and its fans.
  16. I don't think it's exactly foamerish. These are hypothetical scenarios; this thread isn't going to make these re-routes more likely to happen in real life. It's not like people who say such things (you know who they are) just want to foam over a at 9 Av or an at 168 St or whatever. Instead, it's because they think, "Let's extend this train to this place, and it will increase service," without thinking about whether anybody will actually want to ride that train. Some guy at Atlantic Avenue is going to shake his head upon seing a train and he won't get on it. A CPW rider will let the re-routed pass him/her by, and wait for a train (which never will come, because some idiot decided to send it to Jamaica Center or some other crazy place ). You get the picture. I think this is a misuse of the term "foamer". What we're dealing with is just shoddy planning; coming up with confusing train routes that only make sense to railfans and nobody else.
  17. And I thought you were going to run the down Broadway .
  18. NEXT: 53 St and 63 St river crossings (not the entire 53/63 St lines) are unusable.
  19. Good ol' Bway/7 Av Express...Can reach 50 MPH, I hear.
  20. Assuming you mean that BOTH of the DeKalb Av bypass tracks are unusable: Suspended (or trains can run via Culver to CIY) runs local in Brooklyn; stops at DeKalb Av Coney Island - Atlantic Av runs in two sections; Bay Ridge-95 St - Court St, Whitehall St - Forest Hills-71 Av You'll notice that I did NOT extend the to South Brooklyn here. I did this because most people in that area will be confused when they see a ; they likely won't get on it. But they'll feel comfortable taking the to Court St or Jay St-Metrotech for the or switching to a or train at Atlantic Av.
  21. I hope that the "obese 75-footer" crowd is reading this right now .
  22. Yeah. I really don't understand why mileage is supposedly such a big deal with the R160s. I mean, if the MTA were to put the R68/As on the , then wouldn't they start having the same milage issues? Reliable NTTs are better suited to more demanding lines, AFAIK.
  23. NEXT, peeps: While 6 Av FASTRACK is in effect, the entire 53 St line becomes unusable.
