  1. I thought people said that there was a switch, that is now used to control the express/local LED signs on the 's R62A, that was once used to control field shunting. Maybe I'm wrong; you know best. It seems like while the IND has some of the longest, fastest, sections of track, its signals aren't designed for high-speed operation in some areas (like CPW).
  2. That's true, but what about the timers that are in FASTRACK areas? Or what if FASTRACK was expanded to the CPW line? My question is, during maintenance procedures (such as during FASTRACK), do timers get re-calibrated?
  3. I doubt that the recent addition of timers to the Fulton line has added more than a minute from end to end. Old schedules from the early 2000s can show that. The takes 29 minutes from Jay St to Howard Beach. Do you think that a bus can beat that? Considering that the is such a direct route through Brooklyn, I think that a bus linking JFK airport with Manhattan would be less redundant.
  4. Is it possible that any of these timers will get re-calibrated? I know that the MTA talks about "servicing timers" in their description of accomplishments during FASTRACK.
  5. @ TwoTimer, how fast are the northbound CPW express timers supposed to clear?
  6. The uptown 6 Av express track. Sorry...I made a mistake.
  7. NEXT: The uptown express track at W 4 St is unusable. Because of midday construction on the 53 St tunnel, and trains run via 6 Av/63 St at this time.
  8. It probably added a few MPH, at best. I'm having a hard time understanding why field shunting was added in the first place.
  9. I've got (another) question, if anyone knows the answer: Back when the express/local (field shunting) switch was enabled, did T/O's use the "express" setting for express runs and the "local" setting for local runs? Or did they just always keep it on "express" to make the train faster? And I'm correct in assuming that the "local" setting meant "field shunting off" (as it always is set today), right?
  10. CBTC is supposed to be finished on the line in 2016. EDIT: whoops, I didn't see that MTA Bus already answered you.
  11. So, southbound means Manhattan bound and northbound means Jamaica-bound, right?
  12. I'm really confused. Where are these switches that you're talking about?
  13. I'm referring to the express portion between Queens Plaza/21 St-Queensbridge and 71 Av, in either direction. Sorry for not making it clear.
  14. Well, to be fair to ThrexxBus, he was referring to overly difficult and complicated scenarios, not unrealistic ones. Anyway: 207 St - 168 St (wrong rails from 175 St to 168 St) Far Rockaway/Lefferts Blvd - 59 St-Columbus Circle, stops at 50 St (relays north of 59 St) suspended suspended Coney Island - 59 St-Columbus Circle (relays north of 59 St) Bronx riders are advised to use the train. Some and trains can be re-signed as trains and go to Woodlawn. Some trains can be re-signed as trains and run via 7 Av express.
  15. Can someone inform me as to where all the timers are on the QBL express? And if a T/O could say how fast they clear, that would be great.
  16. @ ThrexxBus, I don't think the , or are affected, assuming that NX Express means "local tracks on 4-track lines". Brooklyn-bound trains run express from 59 St to Canal St terminates at 2 Av some uptown trains terminate at Essex St runs via Manhattan bridge runs express between 34 St-Penn Station and Chambers St runs express between 14 St-Union Sq and Brooklyn Bridge
  17. For those of you who don't want to stay up until 2:00 AM solving the above scenario, I'll give another option: NEXT: Trains cannot pass under the East river using the Cranberry St tube or the Rutgers St tube. RULES: no routes can be suspended, or have service frequencies reduced
  18. @ NX Express, can you please specify westbound versus eastbound (since that's where the 53/63 St lines run?
  19. I assume you mean every station BESIDES Fulton St. Okay, here we go: some downtown trains terminate at Chambers St; some trains run via Lexington Av express single-track shuttle trains run between Wall St and Nevins St downtown trains terminate at Chambers St Far Rockaway/Lefferts Blvd - 207 St, via between Jay St and W 4 St, local in Manhattan Euclid Av - High St terminates at Chambers St
  20. YOU FOAMER! Just kidding. Who do I sound like?
  21. suspended runs via between Coney Island and Broadway-Lafayette Sts limited service runs Coney Island - Atlantic Av Coney Island - Atlantic Av Astoria-Ditmars - Jay St-MetroTech Coney Island - Prospect Park 95 St - Atlantic Av, express between 36 St and Atlantic Av 71 Av - Jay St-Metrotech single-track shuttle, local between Atlantic Av and 36 St And, trains run in Brooklyn at all times
  22. People probably forgot that they were suspended. Oh, gee... Jamaica Center - Marcy Av Metropolitan Av - Marcy Av Forest Hills-71 Av - 2 Av suspended Maybe add an out-of-system transfer to the at Broadway/Hewes St, since this is a long-term service change Okay. I'm going to pour on the foam just because I feel like it: Brown trains run from 95 St to Chambers St on the line Oh, and special diamond <J> trains run between Marcy Av and Broadway Jct; express between Myrtle Av and Broadway Jct so that riders can have a quick transfer to the trains at Broadway Jct.
  23. I've got a simpler solution: trains run local in Queens !
