Why not?? The E/F trains have the highest ridership and QBL has CBTC. The r211's is already equipped with CBTC and can accommodate more riders than the r160's. It makes much more sense for Jamaica to get the second option order. If the MTA is really smart, then they should stop worrying about costs, think about the future and make the whole 2nd option order open gangway. At least the NQW riders can get some of "their precious" r160's back if Jamaica gets the 2nd option order. Also, let's not forget that the first option order will most likely be split between 207 and Concourse due to CBTC.

Were you actually expecting that the r32's and r46's will stay in service for another 10-15 years?? For what?? So that subway service continues to be delayed due to mechanical issues?? Do you know how annoying it is to get to work or school late because the train broke down? The real reason why there is a subway car shortage is because the MTA did not order enough r179's. The subway car shortage will be eliminated with the second option order of r211's.

The r68's cannot stay on the BD once 8th Avenue CBTC is done. R68's are not equipped with CBTC.

They won't fail. Both Ts should run on the E or F trains.

IMO the second option order should go to Jamaica, regardless if it's open gangway or not. The first option order will most likely go to the B, C, D trains due to 8 th Avenue CBTC, which will require the A, B, C, D to be 100% NTTs. The MTA needs to exercise the second option order because ridership is growing and it will continue to grow as more real estate is being built. Also, the r46's won't last beyond 3 years.

The worst performing r46's will be replaced by the best performing r46's. Then, the r68's will replace the remaining r46's, while the r211's will go to subway lines that will run on QBL, 8th Avenue and 6th Avenue due to CBTC.

IMO the worst performing r46's should be removed first and be stored as "emergency fleet" until option 1 begins to enter service. The retirement of the r46's should be done gradually as more option 1 trains enter service and the worst performing trains should retire first.

The r46's are not going to retired yet. Yes, we are going to see the production r211A's gradually enter service. Let's be patient. Don't be surprised if each production train enters service on a weekly or biweekly basis. The MTA should make sure that things are running smoothly with the r211's before retiring any r46's.

Did you really read my latest post?? Cause you really misunderstood what I posted. Since when over using a train means the same as scrapping a train?? Cause if you look at the dictionary or go to Google you will notice that "over using" something and "scrapping" something mean two different things.

I'm not saying that the r46's need to be scrap right now. What I am saying is that the MTA should not be overusing them, since they are in really bad shape. At least CI has been running a lot of r68's on the NQ during the weekends and there has been some weekends that all the A/Cs r179's are running. This past weekend wasn't the case and there were a lot of delays caused by mechanical issues that impacted A,C,D,E,F trains and that's on top of the delays caused by weekend work. More subway car breakdowns means more delays and headaches for riders.

The problem is that it will worsen weekend delays (which is already bad due to weekend work) on the A, C, which will also impact service on the D, E, F, since it shares tracks with the A, C. There were a lot of delays this weekend on those lines due to mechanical issues. At least the N and Q can rely on the r68's during the weekends. Hopefully, with more r211's entering service, the r179's can breath a little bit.

Why the pessimistic attitude with the r211's??? I'm pretty sure that it was an r46's that broke down. The r46's have been dominating the A/C this weekend. I hardly saw r179's running on the A/C. The MTA should not be using so many r46's during the weekends especially if there is a lot of track and CBTC work done during the weekends. The r46's are breaking down like flies.

Not really. There are production trains (about 2-3 ten car trains) on MTA property and the pilot r211S train plus the second half of the soft shell open gangway train was delivered within the last few weeks. Don't be surprised if we see more production trains being delivered next week.

Let's cross our fingers that things continue to go well with the pilot train.

Option 2 is necessary due to CBTC being installed on 8th Avenue, Crosstown, Culver, and 6th Avenue will get CBTC, which will require the A, B, C, and D trains to be 100% NTTs. Also, let's not forget the second phase of SAS, which will require more trains for the Q. The MTA needs to stop thinking in present tense. Ridership is growing and it will continue to grow due to the large amount of real estate being built in NYC. Option 2 must be exercised and they need to have a plan to replace the r68's. It takes 7-10 years to purchase, build, deliver and test new subway cars.

I was able to ride the r211 today. I immediately noticed the wider doors and how fast the train is despite the track work on the A and C. The only issue is that the air conditioning wasn't strong considering that it's a brand new train. The r179's and even the r68's that run on the BD have stronger AC.

So far so good with the pilot. Saw it heading northbound pass 50th street about 45 minutes ago.

Only 5 out of the 10 car train.

No news is good news. It means that the pilot train is doing well with testing. Also, we are busy with either work or school. Be patient.

I'm actually surprised that the MTA decided to put the r211's yesterday with all the track work that has been this weekend on the A/C trains.

These issues will cause delays with 8th Avenue CBTC. A, B, C, D trains will all need to be 100% NTTs before 8th Avenue CBTC is done.
