I remember the lack of IRT express service in Brooklyn outside of rush hours in the early to mid-80s. If service cuts have to go through, that could certainly be a possibility. The (6) also ran as a shuttle between Pelham Bay Park and 125th overnights, leaving the (4) to run local and be the sole late night Lexington service back then and that can’t be ruled out either.

While nothing can be ruled out completely, it’s tough to say if the pre-Chrystie plan you mentioned for south Brooklyn would work, precisely because of the Chrystie connection, as well as the decline in importance of the Nassau St Line. If that plan did get implemented, (B)(D) service between Manhattan and Brooklyn would have to be factored in, unlike in the 50s and early to mid-60s. This could make for some interesting speculation, but I’m not going to try right now, because the MTA still aren’t saying much of anything beyond “40 percent cut.”

Getting rid of the (R) on QBL has long been discussed as a solution to cure QBL of its service woes. There’s already people on here who have posted that they don’t like the idea of doing that, so I can only imagine people at community meetings voicing their displeasure about it as well. I used to ride the (R) local on QBL and through 60th, when I lived in Forest Hills from 2012-15. I did so because I didn’t want to deal with crush loaded (E) or (F) trains and transfers at Roosevelt Avenue. Plus, I could get a direct transfer to the (4) or (5), which you can’t do from the (E), (F) or (M). But I often found my (R) trains to not be all that crowded and there were even times when I’d board an (R) train at Lex-59th and get a seat... at 5:30 in the evening. Maybe there just weren’t that many people on QB who needed that transfer to the Lex express trains, I don’t really know. Or maybe they found a different way home in the evening rush vs the morning.

The (E) and (M) Trains directly transfer to the Lexington Avenue line at Lex-53. Plus with the (F), it's a connection, but you can still reach the (4)(5) and (6) lines by walking to 59th Street.

Since R160s are still bing transferred to the (A), does that mean the R179 wont be back for quite some time?

Oh dear god, you asked this question in another forum! The R One Hundred Seventy-nine cars will be out of service until further notice.

I would say no (Z), some 8 car R160s on the (C), and R143s on the (J).  The (A) could borrow R46s from Coney Island Yard, R68s from Concourse Yard, or R160s from Jamaica Yard.  Just depends on which yards have stuff available.  The spare ratio would be greatly reduced, but it's only a temporary problem.

If the R32s are reactivated, I would expect them to run in 10 car trains on the (A) and 8 car trains on the (J).  Since it's summer, I don't anticipate them going on the (C).

That's too many cars for 2 lines to borrow. As of right now, I don't see any sign of (Z) coming back, the (B) and (W) are back supposedly and the R46s are needed at Coney Island, the (B)  uses some Concourse Cars, and Jamaica, and Avenue X loaned 10-car sets to the (A) already, while the (C) exchanges R32s for R160s. That's all that needs to be done.

I know exactly what you said and I disagree 100% in what you said.  STOP DREAMING!  The beaches are closed NOW! NYCT will not encourage ridership to a closed beach!  As we all know the shuttle runs to Broad Channel and connects with all Far Rock A trains. 3 trains does the job.  I does not need a service increase because that would require more t/o's as well as c/r's.  What happens on a rainy day?  These crews would have PICKED jobs anyway.  They are not going to put OPTO on an R32!  There are drum switches involved which will not be changed with passengers on the train at Rock Park if the platform is opposite the t/o.  And if it would be OK, a 4 car R32 would be the CONTRACTUAL limit.  NYCT does not have all their t/o's and c/r's back anyway.  I'm telling you, since I know their thinking after working for transit for over 30 years, nothing will change in the Rockaways.  The only POSSIBLE improvement you will see is 8 car R46's to Rockaway Blvd. on weekends, which is usually running by now but not this year.

Subway car availability is very tight.  They will not spend money on reactivating more R32's for such a worthless reason.  Social Distancing: the A from Euclid (and north) to Broad Channel where they would catch the shuttle would have more Social Distancing issues than the shuttle they catch at Broad Channel which may be crowded, but half go one stop to Beach 98th and the rest to Beach 116.

Exactly, and the other lines need the T/O's.

Where did you get this? I don’t see it on the MTA homepage. It still says:

I don't need to "get it" anywhere, read the forum title.

Actually, you do, since this thread is to notify of actual subway service changes. - Deucey

(E)(F)(N)(Q)(R) at Lex-63rd. Imagine if the (M) was still running to 96th Street.

    TRAINS REROUTED  Posted: 05/03/2020 12:44PM

There are delays and multiple impacts to (N) and (R) trains in both directions because we removed third-rail power so FDNY can respond to a report of smoke at Lexington Av/59 St.

There is no service on the (N) line between 57 St - 7 Av and Queensboro Plaza in either direction:
-In Manhattan,  trains are running on the (Q) line between 57 St - 7 Av and 96 St in both directions.
-In Queens, (N) trains are running as a shuttle between Queensboro Plaza and Astoria - Ditmars Blvd.

    (R) trains are running on the (N) line in both directions between 36 St (Queens) and Lexington Av/63 St and on the (R) line to/from 57 St - 7 Av. There is no service on the (F) line between 57 St - 7 Av and 36 St (Queens).

    Expect delays in (E) , (F) , (N) , (Q) and (R) service in both directions.

    Alternatives:

For service between Queens and Manhattan:
-Use (7) service: In Manhattan, transfer between (N)(R) and (7) trains at Times Sq - 42 St. In Queens, transfer between (N) and (7) trains at Queensboro Plaza. Transfer between (R) and (7) trains at Jackson Hts - Roosevelt Av
-Take rerouted (N) trains to/from Lexington Av/63 St, where (F) and rerouted (E) and (R) service is available.

For service to/from Lexington Av/59 St, use Lexington Av/63 St, where (Q) , and rerouted (N) / (R) service is available.

For service to/from 5 Av/59 St, travel to nearby 57 St, where rerouted (N)(R) service is available.

For service along the (N) line in Queens between Queensboro Plaza and 30 Av, consider using Q102 bus service.
    -From 39 Av - Dutch Kills, consider taking Q104 buses to/from 46 St - Bliss St .

I didn't see anything where this involving 53 Street so the (E) and (M) has nothing to do with this scenario.

    Huh?

    Part Suspended Posted: 05/11/2020 11:32PM

There are delays and multiple impacts in (2) and (4) train service after someone was struck by a train near 149 St - Grand Concourse.

    (4) train service is temporarily suspended in both directions between 149 St - Grand Concourse and 125 St.

    (2) train service is suspended in both directions between Chambers St and Atlantic Av - Barclays Ctr.

For service along Lexington Av line, take a (6) train.

For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn use an (N) or (Q) train.

    Makes no sense.

    MULTIPLE IMPACTS  Posted: 05/06/2020  5:38PM

There are multiple impacts and delays in (2) , (3) , and (5) train service while emergency teams respond to someone who struck by a train near 149 St - Grand Concourse.
There is no (2) train service in either direction between 96 St and E 180 St.
There is no (3) train service in either direction between 96 St and Harlem - 148 St.
Some uptown (2) and (3) trains are running on the (1) line from 96 St and ending at 137 St - City College.
There is no (5) train service in either direction between 149 St - Grand Concourse and E 180 St.
    For service between Manhattan and the Bronx, take nearby Bx6, Bx11, Bx12-SBS, Bx15, Bx33, Bx19, Bx35, and Bx36 buses.
    In addition, in the Bronx, use crosstown, Bx2, Bx4, Bx5, Bx9, Bx17, Bx21, Bx27, Bx40, Bx42, Bx46, and Q44-SBS to nearby  and  lines.

Just have (2)'s run on Lexington

The MTA really has to stop with the "what the people want" mentality. If that were the case back then, none of the el's would've been torn down and the Culver/Polo Grounds shuttle would still be running.

For the sake of operational common sense, it needs to change. The (2) should be the Bronx Express, the (C) should run to Lefferts, 145th St should be closed, the (N) shouldn't stop at 49th St, and many more.

No.. having the (N) switch at 57th-7th  would just create even more delays for the (N)(Q)(R)(W) lines... especially if a train is stationary at 57th or 49th

    I have questions:

    (1) For the last train of the night, is that 1:00 leaving the first stop or arriving at the last stop? Or will all trains just dump their passengers at 1:00 no matter where they are?

    (2) For the first train of the morning, is that 5:00 leaving the first stop or arriving at the last stop?

    (3) What about train trips that cross borough lines? Will ATU drivers operate in TWU territory (and vice versa)? Or will passengers have to switch buses at borough borders?

No, according to the news when the 1:00 hour starts wherever the train is it becomes OOS.
