    Conductor

First of all, welcome to the Forums!

Second, one of the many guidelines of the Forums is to "post in the relevant forum," which can be found here. Therefore, going forward, if you can please do this, it would be truly appreciated.

Last, as a result of taking Exam # 6601 for the Conductor position myself, and receiving a list number in the 4800's, the Examinations Unit will only reach out to you if you failed the Oral Proficiency Assessment (OPA). If you passed, just wait until the folks at NYC Transit's Human Resources Office, also known as "Employment Operations," reaches out to you for further hiring instructions.

    Thank you.

When will they have the next motor vehicle operator exam?

First of all, a separate thread/topic has been created for this particular examination, which can be viewed here. As per the guidelines of the website, if you can please "post in the relevant forum," it would be appreciated.

Second, to answer your question, I would say the next Motor Vehicle Operator Exam will come out within the next year or two. Check this website periodically for more information.

I dont get it they have mabstoa bus company available. Whats the difference?

If you click here and here, these  two websites outline the differences very clearly. To make a long story short: MTA Bus Company was formed in 2006 when the City of New York took over the private bus lines, and, if you click here, you can read up on the history of all the depots, which will explain where MaBSTOA comes into play.

To my understanding, MABSTOA is Manhattan and Bronx Surface, they're none civil service.. they're under NYCT or TA...TA is civil service even though these exams are all civil service exams...they are calling people from these exams to fill spots over MABSTOA and MTA Bus Company. A lot of people are crossing over to TA....They get a better pension (NYCERS), unlimited transportation pass if I'm correct, they can carry over time from one agency to another as the others you can't and will lose seniority...for example, If you work 5 years with MABSTOA or MTA Bus Company and want to cross over to TA, you can't carry over that 5 years... you have to start all over again.....sounds crazy right?

Unfortunately, this is true, especially when it comes to your pension with NYCERS.

The exam for MaBstoA Exam #4101 And for the bus company Exam #4302 They're out now You don't have to pay the fee 👍

And I believe they're going to call from these lists very soon

I agree 100%. If anything, this is why the Notice of Examination, which can be found here and here, specifically state that those who only hold the CLP (Commercial Learners Permit) or the CDL (Commercial Drivers License) can file for the exam, and these documents will be checked when it comes time to take the examination.

I have been called from exam 2613... I'm list #12X going in Fri for day 1 pre employment.

My list number from Exam 2613 is less than 100 and I have not received any notifications yet - at this time I would just be patient.

    Update:

As per the latest Exam Schedule, there will be an Open-Competitive Examination for MTA Bus Company and MaBSTOA, in which the application period will be from June 1st to July 1st. With the fact that the Exam Number is "N/A," I'm wondering how this will work out, respectively.

    Good luck!!

    Update:

The next Open-Competitive Examinations for the title of Bus Operator for MTA Bus Company and MaBSTOA are now open for filing for free!! More information can be found on the Exam Schedule webpage, and two brand new topics/threads have been created as well, which can be found here and here.

    Good luck!!

  5. Here is the Notice of Examination. As per this document, testing is expected to begin in July of 2023.

If you need help obtaining your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP), I would recommend utilizing cristcdl.com. Just remember that the multiple choice examinations that you need to take and pass, at minimum, are General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Passenger Endorsement.

    Good luck!!

But in all fairness, they have been waiting way too long to post a new exam. New people should be given an opportunity to take it and not keep extending the same list 200 times.

I agree 100%. After all, from looking at the Civil Service List (Active) webpage, I have no clue why the list for Exam # 4600 for Bus Operator, which was supposed to expire back in 2020, has been extended to 2024, however that's just me.

Could you elaborate on "better to be safe rather than sorry"? To me, it sounds like they will not be posting the exam any time soon, at least not this year. I truly hope that isn't the case, but out of curiosity since I'm sorta new to this side of the forums, but how long will this whole process take if I were to take the exam to becoming a conductor?

When the last Open-Competitive Conductor Examination was administered, approximately 32,000 people passed the exam. I am estimating that approximately 36,000 to 40,000 people initially took the examination. Therefore, since this is a very popular examination, I am assuming that the Examinations Unit wants to get their "kinks" out in an effort to minimize the number of complaints. One of these "kinks" is to make sure that they have a high school or two available for use on several weekends in order to administer the examination. After all, how can you publish a Notice of Examination if you don't have an examination date?

As far as how long the whole process were to take - I would say several years and not months. As an example, back in the summer of 2017 I took Exam 8302 for Motor Vehicle Operator. If you were to type "8302" into the search box of the Civil Service List (Active) webpage, you will see that the list for this particular examination was established within the last two months. And, since this is Civil Service, they call in list number order, from whoever got a 100% on the multiple choice Civil Service exam, to whoever got a 70% of the multiple choice Civil Service exam, which is the minimum passing score.

I appreciate your response...I tried to send you a PM but it's saying you only accept one message for the day and try again later, or something like that..lol....to my understanding it seems most people who are already with MTA Bus and Mabstoa did a civil exam to cross over to TA, that means most of us on here will just have take whatever they gave us to fill their spots when they leave?.... that's kinda crazy!...plus if we do, we can't transfer our time over to TA and will lose seniority....where do I go from here?

You're welcome for the response. I'm going to ask @SevenEleven, who is a Dispatcher, to chime in. Unfortunately, about 9 years ago, I did not make it through the initial 10-Day Training Session, therefore I think he will know more about what to do and what not to do.

I got a call, text, and email from the exam 2613  for day one pre employment this Fri... I'm still trying to wrap my head around the text message that refers to a B/O position for "MTA Bus Company" and email refers to "MTA/OA".... what's the difference?

    Thanks in advance!

So if you click here and here, depending on the specific depot that you want to work out of, the title of "Bus Operator" is divided up between NYC Transit, MaBSTOA and MTA Bus Company. To make a long story short: Although this is a "Civil Service" examination, in which even the top of the first page of the Notice of Examination specifically states "New York City Transit," they are pulling people from these lists to fill their vacancies in MaBSTOA and MTA Bus Company. If this is the case, and if I am correct, these folks will not be receiving a pension from NYCERS when it comes time to retirement, although this was a "Civil Service" examination.

Now, if you're interested in complaining about this, send me a Private Message (PM) and we'll take it from there. If you can't do this, let me know and I'll help you figure something out.

Exam #8302 is established and DCAS is calling mainly CDL holders. The DOE already called me for interview June 1, but think I will decline. The position is a driver in the food warehouse delivering food to schools in the 5 boroughs. They will probably have the driver load and unload trucks. f**k that!

Tell me about it. I have three interviews within the next couple weeks, and two of them are on the same day! On top of that, I was forced to start with a brand new employer, and I don't know how I'm going to be able to take off for all of these interviews...ouch...

    That was fast.

I agree 100%. And with the fact that the list for Exam 2613 consists of only 299 names, I wonder how fast they will produce the list for Exam 2614.

Wait, do I have yo call the employment center or just wait for a phone call/email from them for next steps?

Just wait for a phone call and/or e-mail. If you try to call them, you will just be wasting your time.

It seems like the new class didn’t find the website.

Although I believe you 100%, I just find this "interesting" because, according to this webpage, the last Certification for the title of "Bus Operator" was this past February. Interesting...

Hey I just went on the mta exam site and they removed the conductor exam for this upcoming June. Does that mean that they cancelled it for good?

First of all, welcome to the Forums!

Second, to answer your question, only time will tell. Hopefully the Examinations Unit will post the exam schedule for the second half of 2023 soon, and then we will take it from there. After all, the amount of names from Exam # 6601 consists of about 32,000 people, so even if they move the application period for this examination back a month or two, as they say, it's better to be safe rather than be sorry.

First of all, welcome to the Forums!

Second, if you look at the left hand side of this webpage, depending on what depot you want to work out of, the title of "Bus Operator" falls under one of three categories: NYC Transit, MaBSTOA and MTA Bus Company. Unfortunately, the next exam for NYC Transit is not going to be for a while. This time last year, according to the second page of this PDF document, the agency administered five [5] different examinations for NYC Transit, in which a thread/topic has been created, which you can view here. As far as MaBSTOA and MTA Bus Company is concerned, to my knowledge, there has not been an exam in the last couple of years. If I was you, keep an eye out on this webpage. As soon as there is going to be a "new" exam for either NYC Transit, MaBSTOA and/or MTA Bus Company, it will be posted on the MTA's website.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Other than that, welcome to the Forums!

awesome! thank you so much :) will def be purchasing soon. appreciate the clarity!

You're welcome! If anything, the Notice of Examination (NOE) for the Promotional examination was just published. If you look at page three of the PDF document, you will see a list of items that will be on their examination, which will probably be on the Open-Competitive one as well. From prior experience, most people screw up on the "Short term memorization" section.

hi !! do you have any more insights on how the book is structured? im interested, but $40 is a little steep (for me) without being able to preview a table of contents. would love some more info before i dive in :)

To make a long story short: There are a couple of introduction chapters, and then there is a chapter which contains the practice test for Train Operator (Promotion), another chapter for Train Operator (Open-Competitive), Conductor (Promotion) and Conductor (Open-Competitive). The introduction chapters are important to read, especially if this is the first civil service examination that you are taking.
