What kids of questions are they going to ask? Is there a manual to read before taking the test?

Although the Notice of Examination (NOE) is not going to be posted until June, as per this website, one of the things which I would strongly recommend is to look at the prior NOE, which can be found here. If you carefully look towards the bottom of page four of the PDF document, you will see the things that they asked on the last Civil Service Exam back in 2016.

There isn't a "manual" to read, however one of the books which I would recommend using as a "study tool" is titled Surfing Through New York Transit Exams: Train Operator - Conductor, For Open Competitive and Promotional Exams. What's nice is that the book was copyrighted in 2019, and is very similar to the last Open-Competitive Conductor Examination that I took. In addition, the format of the practice examinations that are in this book are very similar to the last Bus Operator examinations that I took as well.

As a word of warning, I would stay away from those green and yellow or blue and white "passbooks." Although I borrowed one or two of these out of my local library to save money, since the questions were so outdated, I returned it and I haven't looked at another one of these "passbooks" ever since.

Lol. So i was scheduled to have my sleep apnea overnight test done next Wednesday the 15th. Today i get a text/email from the Doctor saying everything confirmed and what my deductible would be. This one night of test is over $17,000 and my deductible around $2,600. Are these people on Meth? I had to start calling around for other places that can do the study, found a place in Brooklyn called Sunset Sleep Diagnostics that booked me over the phone for next Wednesday night also and they were familiar with clearing folks for MTA pre-employment.

My apologies for the late reply, however have you considered checking out this sleep study place in Brooklyn? I just called, it costs approximately $840, and all they need is a referral from your Primary Care Physician (PCP). You will get the results in approximately a week after the study from them directly. They are pretty booked up, so you might have to wait a while before you actually get to do the study.

In the event the URL link breaks, here is the information:

Dr. Kala Sury Md sleep center

    270 9th st

    Brooklyn, NY 11215

    Between 4th & 5th ave

    (718) 965 0708

    Good luck!!

Anyone know where they're up to? My wife is on exam 2613 still no list number

    They've called people from 2612?

If you look at the information within the blue announcement box at the top of the webpage, the list for Exam 2612 was published this past February, which consists of 423 candidates. If you look at the Civil Service List Certification webpage, by typing "Bus Operator" into the search box, the last certification was back on February 3rd. Therefore, to my knowledge, they did not call people from 2612 yet, and the list for Exam 2613 has not been published yet.

In addition, if you look at the top of this webpage, as of March 13th, NYC Transit suspended the COVID-19 vaccine requirement. Therefore, since there are other Bus Operator lists that are still active before these specific examinations were even announced, such as Exam 4600, 7612, 9604 and 9618, if I had to take an educated guess, it's going to be a while before the list for Exam 2613 gets published. As far as calling people off of Exam 2612, it depends on who successfully completes the entire hiring process from the previous Civil Service Examinations, in addition to passing the 10-Day Bus Operator Training Session out of Zerega.

    Thank you!

I’ve been trying to reach someone regarding this. I’ve reached out to TWU Local 100 and explained the situation and was told I will get a call back. I haven’t heard anything yet. My exam number is 2611. I took the exam time last year and I’ve been waiting for my list number to come and now this.

Since you're a new member, you probably and most likely do not have access  to Private Messaging yet. Therefore, although it seems that you've been screwed by Zerega and Livingston Street, who's not interested in hearing your plea whatsoever, if you wish to complain about this, send me an e-mail (nyctransitforums@myyahoo.com). I'll try to help you out via e-mail to the fullest extent possible.

    Thanks.

I forgot to mention the trainer handed me a resignation letter to sign. I asked why do I need to sign a resignation letter I'm not resigning. I didn't want to be combative so I signed it and he told me to go back to Brooklyn and speak to someone about getting into the next class.  I've been calling and emailing the MTA and not getting any answers.

First of all, welcome to the Forums!

Second, have you considered complaining about this in one capacity or another? Let me know. Although you may not have "Private Messaging" (PM) enabled yet, I'm sure we can work something out.

First of all, as per the guidelines, can you please "post in the relevant thread," which can be found here? I'm going to leave this one open in an effort to help you, however, if you can please follow the guidelines going forward, we would appreciate it.

Second, you are referring to your initial visit in April of 2022, not April of 2023, correct? If so, is your name still active on the Civil Service List Certification webpage? (Hint: Type your last name into the search box, and see if it's included in the last certification which was dated February 27th, 2023.)

Third, although you recently joined the Forums, do you have access to Private Messaging (PM) or no? (Try to click on the "bubble" icon towards the top right hand side of the screen.) I can help you out more there, respectively.

Hello everyone, does anyone know what list number they are up to for the 2611 exam? Or how I can find out, Thank you

If you click here, and you type in "Bus Operator" into the search box, you will see that for Exam #2611, they are up to list number 140.

However, keep in mind that 150 people have first preference from the prior civil service lists (4600, 7612, 9604 and 9618) respectively.

    Good luck!!

Now don't get me wrong - if you have a lot of information to share, such as the handouts, videos and/or a lengthy detailed description of the 10-Day Training Process, feel free to use as much space as possible. However, as I was editing your post, with the fact that I had to delete several unnecessary blank lines from your post, going forward, if you can please keep this in mind, it would be truly appreciated.

Unfortunately, this is not how this works. As an example outside of Transit and/or the MTA, back in 2018, I took the Motor Vehicle Operator exam for DCAS. If you click here and type in either exam number, as of this typing, you will see that none of these lists are established.

    Good luck @Mark R!!

There’s always a shortage. It never ends.

My apologies for briefly going off-topic, however this is also the case in the private sector as well. If you play around with indeed.com with either "Bus Driver" or "Bus Operator," followed by your zip code, you will see that there is a constant need for drivers in the private sector.

Even some bus companies, such as Guardian Bus Company in Long Island, are willing to help you obtain your CDL (Commercial Drivers License) using their buses. Nice, right?

I received my opa letter today. My appointment is in a few weeks. I waited so long to get called. Honestly didn't think I would. I scored a 92.5 list number in the 8000's  Can anyone give me some feedback or advice if you've gone through opa before. Thanks in advance

As per the guidelines, if you can please post in the relevant forum, which can be found here, it would be truly appreciated.

To answer your question from my perspective:

The Oral Proficiency Assessment (OPA) is split into two parts. For the first part, you will be in a classroom listening to a recording from a CD player, in which you will be asked to answer a few questions shortly after the recording. As previously suggested, if you close your eyes and pay careful attention to the recording, you should pass with no problem.

For the second part, you will be called into a room with a Train Service Supervisor (TSS) and someone else from the Examinations Unit. You will be shown a series of pictures and asked "What to do" if you were the Conductor at the time. Unless you are not 100% familiar and/or fluent with the English language, you should pass with no problem.

    Good luck!!

    Damn that’s crazy

That is actually standard. I have a true story to share:

Back on July 3rd, 2018, I got into an "accident" at my job, in which, according to my former employer, I had to go for a drug (urine) test in which I was prohibited from performing any safety sensitive duties until my former employer received a negative result. However, because of Independence Day, and the 72 hours to get the results, which only takes place on business days, I was out of work for close to a week. Nice, right?

    2 minutes ago, Marv said:

Now with this application they want jobs and unemployment from when you got out of high school. Are they for real? Or can I just go back like 10yrs or so? That’s a little extensive lol.

They are real. Just do the best you can with the months and the years - nothing is 100% perfect. If necessary, you can obtain a job history printout from your local Social Security Office to help you with this.

Has anybody gotten there test scores for bus operator exam 2614 I took the exam back in September of last year but I have gotten nothing in the mail yet

Going forward, as per the guidelines of the website, if you can please post in the relevant forum, which can be found here, it would be appreciated.

    To answer your specific question:

I have personally taken Exams 2611, 2612, 2613, 2614 and 3601, and the agency only published the results from Exam 2611. Keep in mind that, as per the first page of the Notice of Examination, the agency has to publish the test scores from Exam 2612 and Exam 2613 first before they publish the results from Exam 2614, in addition to going through the list with the anticipation of hiring Bus Operators. Therefore, to make a long story short, it's going to be a while before the results from Exam 2614 are published.

    Thank you.

    Timekeeping Analyst                 103040

    Assistant Conductor Trainee   101831

Allow me to add my two cents:

If you were to look at the top of this webpage, the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) consists of six [6] different agencies. Two [2] of these agencies consist of New York City (NYC) Transit and the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). What you are referring to is a job, or employment opportunity with the LIRR, not NYC Transit.

The good news for you, @MTA Exam, is that there is another thread for the Assistant Conductor Position with the LIRR which can be found here. Therefore, you might want to check out the other thread for more relevant information. In addition, if you have any more questions about becoming an Assistant Conductor Trainee, feel free to post them in the other thread, but preferably not this one.

Just to be clear, this particular thread/topic is for this position for NYC Transit, in which we took a Civil Service examination back in July of 2017.

If the number falls out of the acceptable range they stop your process and tell you to get a sleep study on your own time and dime.

If this does happen to anyone, I have a solution to "speed up" the process:

Back in June of 2017, a former member posted in this post information regarding someone who does sleep studies without going through their Primary Care Physician (PCP) or your health insurance or anything to that nature. I just gave them a phone call on behalf of my "friend," and, for $800, it is a minimum of three [3] sessions to see if you have sleep apnea or not. If not, they will give you a note which you can take straight to the MAC (Medical Assessment Center) to have your Medical Hold cleared.

In the event the link breaks, here is the information:

    Dr. Kala Sury, MD

    270 9th Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11215

    (718) 965 0708

Now don't feel bad if you're initially diagnosed with sleep apnea. While going through the Bus Operator hiring process for the first time, I was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy in my legs. However, after seeing a neurologist, in addition to testing, I was re-diagnosed with muscle spasm in my legs, in which treatment consists of "stretching" on a regular basis. Therefore, you're probably and not the only one who has been mis-diagnosed by these folks.

Hey does anyone know anything about exam# 3601

If you look at the first page of this PDF document, you will see that there were a total of five [5] examinations that were administered. The list for the first examination, Exam 2611, was published this past July, and, according to this post, they have approximately 700 people to go before the publish the next list for the following examination, Exam 2612.

Therefore, I believe it is safe to say that it will be at least one [1] calendar year from when the exam was administered, which is October/November of 2023, before anyone will hear anything regarding Exam # 3601. Now, if I had to take an educated guess, based on the number of candidates from the other lists, Exams 2612, 2613 & 2614, I would say that it might take anywhere from 18 months to 2 years from the time the examination was administered (October/November 2022) until we hear anything about Exam #3601.

We will see what happens as time progresses...

The position of conductor is a safety sensitive title. They are not going to allow you anywhere near a train until they can verify you are medically fit to work.

Edit: As someone earlier mentioned. If you're tight about this process now, just wait until you actually work the job.

As far as your first sentence is concerned, I have been a Bus Driver for about six years now, and, every other year, I have to go for a DOT Physical. Passing these physicals, which allows me to drive various Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV), such as a Tractor Trailer, Coach Bus, etc., is easier than dealing with their MAC (Medical Assessment Center). And, from my perspective, all of this falls under the title of "Safety Sensitive." Therefore, as far as I am concerned, "go figure."

(As an example, with their MAC, a candidate's blood pressure has to be in between 110/70 and 130/90. However, from the perspective of my Primary Care Physician, anything between 100/60 to 140/100 is acceptable.)

As far as the second sentence is concerned, if you look back at the 300+ pages of this thread of what other people have been through after 180 Livingston, which includes School car, you'll see what you have to contend with. Trust me.

  21. 4 hours ago, MailManMike said:

At what point during the hiring process do they ask for your Covid vaccine card?

As soon as you walk into 180 Livingston Street, when they call you up to check your documents. However, as per this news article, in which a judge ordered another City agency to rehire workers who rejected the COVID vaccine, I don't know if and when they will stop checking for the Covid vaccine card.
