  1. Service Change Posted: 04/05/2012 3:42AM Due to a water main break at the Chambers Street Station: trains suspended between the 14th Street Station and the South Ferry Station in both directions. and trains suspended between the 14th Street Station and the Atlantic Avenue Station in both directions. Please expect delays in service on , and trains at this time. Planned Work Service is extended to New Lots Av Nights, 12:01 AM to 5 AM, Tue to Fri, Apr 3 - 6 trains operate to New Lots Av overnight, replacing the in Brooklyn. Planned Work 241 St-bound trains run express from Chambers St to 14 St Planned Work 242 St-bound trains run express from Chambers St to 14 St Not a good look when Lex isn't going to Brooklyn, either.
  2. There is no terminal program for Pelham Parkway.
  3. Jay St wasn't meant to be a terminal. Also the GO limits often extend into the Jay St station itself along the Culver tracks. As far as I know, a train can't wrong rail into Jay using the York St crossover. The crossover was meant for single tracking in the Rutgers Tube and the interlocking by Delancey. Even my solution to the last "epic water break" was wrong. The D can't turn north to south at Bway-Lafayette. I was on the B today and I looked for a home signal to get behind for the reverse move back south, and there was none. They can only turn back north at Bway Laf. They would have to go all the way into West 4 and turn north of the station, which would be too close to the water, lol.
  4. runs in two sections - Brooklyn Bridge and Utica Avenue, Woodlawn and 86st (northbound service starts at 125). All service on west side (going to need it). runs from Pelham Bay to Grand Central. Bedford Av to Rockaway Pkwy. runs in two sections - Astoria to Times Sq., Coney Island to Pacific St. Coney Island to Whitehall St. ® in two sections Bay Ridge shuttle., Forest Hills to 34-Herald Sq via 63st. Replaces in Queens and 53st, via 8Av to W4. C/B suspended, Express 42-Canal. in two sections - Coney Island to Bway-Laf, 205 to 2Av, (via 8Av to w4 obviously), local in Manhattan. Spring St closed, use nearby station. Myrtle Av Shuttle.
  5. An odd piece of journalism but ok. I guess I should submit my letter again for technical writing.
  6. No Manhattan-bound service at Briarwood-Van Wyck Blvd and 75 Av Weeknights & Weekends, 12:01 AM Sat, Apr 7 to 5 AM Mon, Apr 16 For service from these stations, take the * or to Union Tpke or the * to Jamaica-Van Wyck and transfer to a Manhattan-bound . For service to these stations, take the to Union Tpke or 71 Av and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound * or Jamaica-bound . *Jamaica Center-bound service is not available at these stations Mon to Fri, 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Note: Manhattan-bound trains also skip these stations during this time.
  7. The barns will tell the story. I'll let you know which barns get updated (or INDMan would as well).
  8. I wonder of there will be any special modded cars (like the one with the fold away seats that used to run on the E line)?
  9. the C is packed in Brooklyn until Nostrand, then it empties out a bit by time it gets to Utica. So, cutting Brooklyn service wouldn't be wise, along with providing merging delays. Yes they will, but for what type of equipment we dunno as of yet, and if its for equipment that isn't even on the design board yet, it would have to be modified again later on. Just remember TA wants to be cheap as possible and is perfectly happy with putting things off. What's unknown is whether 207 will be servicing NTT's for the first time or just R46's (in the latter case all is needed is parts). Pitkin wouldn't have to change anything at all.
  10. The piece Steve is in the direction if you went straight ahead from the 6Av side of the bridge (instead of that gradual but big right turn the current services take to get into Grand St).
  11. The idea with the FASTRACK work is to get it done quicker, and safer instead of "piecemeal" jobs throughout the weekends and overnight hours with full flagging. For the rider as far as service quality, it means less weekend and overnight flagging (there's still some overnight flagging as catchup with all the lack of maintenance will take awile, but I expect a difference in the amount of flagging overnights/weekends eventually). Right now, they want to properly light the tunnels (one of the more noticable features), as some places are completely dark, while others are using inefficient incandescent bulbs. The 8Av and 6Av river tubes are now ablaze in light, and I assume the Lex and 7Av are as well.
  12. Well CCY will remain with its 68s, those aren't going anywhere. Yes, the article meant that the cars will replace the R32 (which currently run on the C), not specifically saying that they will run on the C line, however (that decision probably hasn't been made as of yet, and will be made as it nears delivery time). Remember when the R160 came out on the A and everyone thought it was going to be a staple of that historic line, and it wasn't. It was bound for Queens and the packs of riders that desperately need the local recycle feature on those trains. As I said earlier, it will depend on which barn gets updated to accept the cars. If I don't see new shiny equipment being hauled into 207 and perhaps Pitkin in the next couple of years in preparation (but I see work being done in Jamaica and CI, for example), then it's safe to assume the 179's won't "home port" at 207, which services the C line. They will be tested of course on the A as that has the infamous test track in the flats where it can run out there, and might even do a run or two on the A (with a train full of railfans and buffs), but it too could disappear just like the R160 did. Either one or the other will happen... (along with finishing off the R42) 1. As said by others - will run on the C as was interpreted in the article. 2. Push R46 equipment out of Queens altogether (and presumably to the C and A, allowing a few of the poorer performing R46 to be retired), making Queens fully NTT, just like the Bronx. I honestly think the latter will occur, as the barns in Jamaica/CI are already equipped for NTT, and whatever computer upgrades are needed will be cheaper than overhauling the 207 and Pitkin barns, which doesn't have the overhead equipment that Jamaica/CI have just yet. The C won't get 8 car units because the C and A have often shared equipment in the past (and presently during the summer), and giving the line linked 4 car units will also inadvertently hamper the A from getting spares. I feel this way as it is the cheapest option, further delaying necessary barn updates for the older barns. There is a chance that if the G is based out of Court sq again (as supposed to Church, which means it will terminate at Smith-9 again) that it could get some R160 5 car units as a result.
  13. Because its not that uncommon, people have kinda gotten used to it, and the trainchasers haven't really gotten out there yet because they know by time July comes around most of the trains on the line will be R32.
  14. Yes, more cars are needed for the Q to 96. That being said, speculation will run wild over where the rest of the equipment not replacing the R42 will go, we don't even know if they plan to start isolating all the types of 5-car 160s in service (for example, the 160 siemens can be isolated to the G alone, just an example not a suggestion). Remember as well, the barns have to be retrofitted to accept and repair this type of equipment (remember new barns were built for the R142A and R160 in Westchester and Jamaica respectively), when that begins to happen it will become clearer where the cars will go.
  15. http://gothamist.com/2012/03/28/did_you_get_a_free_ride_on_the_subw.php Interesting piece here. "Debt service" which is railfans' arch enemy.
  16. Well not more extensively, but are figuring out the real distances between stations and lines. I mean there are people who's destination is somewhere along 8Av and they originated on one of the 7Av lines and would go thru fire and brimstone to use an 8Av station, when all they had to do is use a 7Av station and walk a block... its more like getting to know the city more.
  17. at Chambers street - pull in on track 4, go downstairs to relay, pull it back out on track 3 to go north. at Broad - pull in the s/b track, punch, go to one of two relay tracks (tracks to Brooklyn descend on both sides of the relay tracks in the middle to meet the Montague tunnel where the is). Punch to come out on the n/b track. Late nights, pull into s/b track, change ends, leave via the same track, punch to cross over to n/b tracks at Fulton.
  18. The most accurate is actually "pilot valve", although anything deadman is a valid substitute but its more of a popular nickname.
  19. Yeah, there will be some sort of FASTRACK (and at times two) every month. This may increase as other trunks are added later (a supt told me Broadway is in the works when the scope broadens again, but at the moment is in discussion).
  20. Punching is mandatory when both lines are terminating at Flatbush.
  21. Only thing better here is to leave the express in this case. No sense crossing it over to local only to cross it back over to the express to access the bridge. Going north, 63st can be accessed from either track, and south, it can access both tracks.
  22. I always thought it would be 57-7 to Canal (both levels). That allows service to go to 59-Lex and Whitehall St.
  23. Ugh, I'm drenched in foam lol. Well the was scheduled to be in the tunnel most the GO anyway, I'm not sure if they intend to put it through the tunnel while the ®'s still running that first hour or so of the GO.
  24. I think it was to directly link it over to 6Av, and while in walking distance (Essex also isn't far away, as is 2Av), its not like a simple one crosstown block over like in midtown.
